Libtards are slimy little devils.  As I have mentioned, they rarely state their plans in full form.  If they did, they’d be rejected outright.  After all, who wants to give up their freedoms?  Who would willingly give up owning their own home, or their cars, or their firearms, or their medical care?  So the libtards take the incremental road, taking our freedoms and living standards one cut at a time.  One restriction comes today, another next week, and a third a year from next Tuesday.  Every little cut is just that, and that’s how the Legion of Doom sells it to the sheeple.  “Oh, come on now, we’re not taking it ALL away, it’s just a little piece, after all, it’s for the (insert defenseless, emotional reaction evoking group here).  Then, a few years, or even decades from now, people think “Derrrr…what happened?”

I must also mention the fact that libtards don’t always take freedoms by a direct ban.  They just make it impossible to exercise that freedom.  Look at recent developments with attempted gun regulations; such as making ammunition more expensive, making the guns themselves more expensive, creating more and more regulations with more and more fees.  They can turn around and say that they haven’t banned guns, but at the same time, they will have made it next to impossible for the average American to own one.

Now, enter the auto industry.  For decades, the Fed has made cars more expensive via safety, emissions, and fuel economy requirements.  The safety regulations make the cars heavier, making mileage a problem, the emissions regulations made engine compression ratios go down, which also ruins mileage.  Of course, you then have to do a ton of R&D, and add a bunch  of additional equipment to make the cars meet all of the regulations.  Then end result has been cars that are far more expensive that they need to be.   Also, they have consistently prevented us from increasing domestic oil production, leaving us at the whim of foreign powers, and driving consumer costs through the roof.  When you look at all of these in their totality, you can guess that, “Gee, seems they want to make it mighty inconvenient to own and operate at car!”

Now, the libtards are more bold than ever.  They have dropped some of the pretenses and have started “sharing” more and more of their true intentions.  Let’s take a look at what the current Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, has been up to, as reported by CNS News.

In Newsweek magazine last week, nationally syndicated columnist George Will published a piece critical of Lahood, entitled, “Ray LaHood, Transformed–Secretary of Behavior Modification.”

“He says he has joined a ‘transformational’ administration: ‘I think we can change people’s behavior,’” Will reports that LaHood said over lunch.

Gee, I thought the government was supposed to serve the people and protect their right.  As usual, the libtards have a completely different idea

LaHood, a former Republican congressman from Peoria, Ill., has become a champion of using the Department of Transportation and federal transportation spending to get people to take trains, busses, and ride bikes instead of driving cars.

Remember, it isn’t going to be by telling you… “Hey Sheeple!  No more cars!  We said so, you’re far too dumb to manage yourselves, so we’ll step in!”

At the National Press Club on Thursday he attempted to respond to George Will’s column and to explain his vision for using the power of government to change people’s transportation behavior and to change the nature of American residential communities.

“We want to really–and notwithstanding the fact that George Will doesn’t like this idea–the idea of creating opportunities for people to get out of their cars–and we’re working with the secretary of HUD, Shaun Donovan, on opportunities for housing, walking paths, biking paths,” said LaHood. “If somebody wants to ride their bike, if–to work or to the place of employment or to other places–mass transit, light rail–creating opportunities for what we call livable communities.”

CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE TRANSLATION:

Creating opportunity=Forcing you to do what WE want.

Working with HUD=Herding the sheeple into government planned housing.

Liveable Communities=Sustainable stupidity (Giving up your quality of life to keep the boogeyman, AKA AGW,  away)

The moderator of the press club event asked LaHood: “Some in the highway-supporters motorist groups have been concerned by your livability initiative. Is this an effort to make driving more torturous and to coerce people out of their cars?”

LaHood answered: “It is a way to coerce people out of their cars.

They freakin admit it.  Is this being bold, or just stupid?

“Yeah,” he continued, “I mean, look, people don’t like spending an hour and a half getting to work. And people don’t like spending an hour going to the grocery store. And all of you who live around here know exactly what I’m talking about. You know, the dreaded thing is to have to run an errand on a weekend around here or to try and get home at 3:00 in the afternoon or even 5:00 in the afternoon.

And if people wanted, they could wait for hours on a bus!  And sit by a smelly person, or have a headache after listening to screaming children, or be harassed by a generic college lefty.  Yup, I’ll give up the air conditioned comfort of my car for that!

“Now, look, every community is not going to be a livable community. But we have to create opportunities for people that do want to use a bicycle or want to walk or want to get on a streetcar or want to ride a light rail,” said LaHood.

Again with the “creating opportunities!”  What a nifty euphemism for force!

Lahood then made a joke about the fact that some conservatives believe that the way he wants to use the Department of Transportation represents an increased government intrusion in people’s lives.

“Some conservative groups are wary of the livable communities program, saying it’s an example of government intrusion into people’s lives,” said the moderator. “How do you respond?”

“About everything we do around here is government intrusion in people’s lives,” said LaHood. “So have at it.”

Face it. Picard has the best facepalms!
Face it. Picard has the best facepalms!

“So have at it???”  The arrogance here is amazing.  Not because they think that way, we all know that.  It’s that they are now openly admitting it!  I know that the Legion of Doom won’t cover it, but damn!

Like your car?  Want to live where you want?  Don’t want government managed everything?  Voted for the messiah, did ya?

How ya likin’ that change?

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

Glad to see you included “livable communities.” Nobody sees that this is an all-out attack on every facet of America. The only way out it will require violence. See the Atlas Shrugged comment over at cmblake’s weblog–it sums up the entire nightmare.

A livable community to me means: I own 40 friggin’ acres, and my nextdoor neighbor knows to write me a letter 10 days in advance before crossing onto my property, for fear of being blown up either by claymore mines or my kid on the sniper rifle.

@cbullitt- Thanks, I’ve been ranting about “Sustainable Stupidity” for a while now. Didn’t we propose a solution for that over at your place about a month or so ago?

@Dr. Dave- I love the idea about claymores! I agree with you’re assessment of livable community. I wouldn’t whack the neighbor though. He might just be bringing you some delicious beer or some thing nice like that.
