Since the kids are back in school, and folks are back on a more regular schedule, it’s time for the Big 3 news ratings to recover from their summer doldrums…or at least it should be.  Let’s take a look.

So, the slide has held steady, or actually worsened.   The following is the probable reason this is happening.

There’s little point in denying that Big 3 Nets supported and heavily invested in Barack Obama’s electoral rise and ultimate victory, risking large-scale alienation of what remained of its already-shrinking audience. From a ratings and presumably financial standpoint, it’s pretty hard to argue that it was worth it. The Internet doesn’t cause almost 30% of an audience to disappear in less than 8 months. More recently, as documented frequently at NewsBusters, all three networks have bit on the “subtle racism” meme and, until recent days, totally ignored James O’Keefe’s and Hannah Giles’s unmasking of the seamy side of ACORN, more than likely driving even more viewers away.

Although the 500 employees getting laid off at NBC (after buyouts were offered to “virtually everyone”) would probably agree the complete sellout has not been worth it, it wouldn’t surprise me if the hardened ideologues with the smiley faces at the Big 3 networks consider such actions unfortunate and inconvenient collateral damage.

So, the media formerly known as mainstream is in the tank with Obama, and is consequently going down the tubes.  By parroting the left’s line about Conservatives and other dissenting factions being “terrorists, rednecks, stupid, paid off, astroturf, to now, racists, the media has alienated much of their audience.  Why would anyone tune into to a media outlet that accuses them of terrorism, dishonesty, and racism?  I don’t know about you, but I tend to be a bit put off by those accusations, and avoid things or people that insult me.  The media hasn’t gotten the point, apparently, and the audience has gone to FOX, or other outlets for their information.

But, as usual, there is more.  Here’s another Newsbusters Article.

Timothy Egan, liberal New York Times reporter turned ultra-liberal nytimes.com “Outposts” blogger, titled his Wednesday night entry “Working Class Zero,” a condescending, stereotypically liberal attack on blue-collar folks too ignorant and easily “distracted” to fight for their own interests, which Egan defined as government-controlled health care.

Egan was vexed that many middle-class Americans were instead heeding “the brat’s cry of Joe Wilson” and condescendingly reduced the concerns of conservative protesters of the size and influence of the federal government to “generalized rage” stoked by “well-funded Astroturf outfits.”

So, this guy can’t even come up with a new insult?  He’s just channeling Nancy Pelosi. I mean after all, the working class is far too stupid to see that the elites should be running things.  They have to be led to it.  Just ask Mr. Egan, he’s waaaaaay smarter than you, after all.

By the way, Mr. Egan, let me clue you in.  Repeating the same failed propaganda only makes you look like an elitist idiot.  Given the  tone of your post, that’s not far off, is it?

Now consider the people who showed up in a state of generalized rage in Washington over the weekend. They have no leaders, save a self-described rodeo clown — Glenn Beck of Fox News — and some well-funded Astroturf outfits from the permanent lobbying class inside the Beltway. They are loosely organized under a Tea Party movement, but these people are closer to British Tories than 18th century patriots with a love of equality.

Hmm, insult the audience, that will bring people to your blog, as well as your employer, won’t it?

So, this seems to encapsulate the overall attitude that much of the media (formerly known as mainstream) has about you.   You’re just rebellious sheep that has to be prodded back into the herd.  Just makes you want to watch their broadcasts and buy their publications, doesn’t it?

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

It’s funny how the liberal TV networks and the liberal newspapers continue to have falling ratings and readers, while FOX news and conservative talk radio continue to climb in the ratings. Why do liberals insist that conservatism is dead? Wishful thinking?

Forgotten Liberty, I think it part wishful thinking, part big lie (to convince the sheeple we are dead), and part is just being in the liberal “unreality bubble” a bit too long and actually believing their own rhetoric.

Matt, the same scenario can be seen being played out in the Newspapers all across the country. For example, the paper I work at is a small, modest county daily. We have a circulation of about 6,000. This is down from 8,000 about 10 years ago. I credit that slight decline to the internet and the economy.

There are many newspapers that are seeing as much as a 30% decline in circulation in just the last 5 or so years. That cannot be blamed on the web, or the economy alone. It is the far left slant that is present in not the editorial pages, but the actual news reporting, i.e. the falsely low estimates of the 9/12 March on Washington.

You have hit the nail right on the head once again, my friend. Good job.

Maybe we could call this scenario the Moonbat Syndrome?

    Good riddance!

I generally don’t pay much attention to charts or graphs Matt, but these caught my eye, frankly they are eye-opening and really paint a dismal picture for the MSM. What does the FOX, MSNBC and CNN graph look like.

This confuses me; so bombarding your viewers with accusations of racism, undermining the country; naming calling like backwoods – tea bagging idiots, Nazism, planting bombs at events, astroturf, and gun toting terrorists doesn’t work?

    My world is imploding.

@ Don, Nice reference, I agree.

@ Karen, look out! Obama is going to bail them out!

@ Ron, I’d like to see that one. Glad you liked it. I have a warm chuckle every time I look at it!

@ Liberty Pen, Long time no see. I was going to put your site image on a milk carton! Welcome back, and yes, surprisingly, treating the public like trash is apparently NOT a good business strategy.

I apologize for my absence, my wife and I took a train trip to Napa, Ca.. I needed the holiday and the respite of an alcohol induced indifference. Besides, your masterful writing can fill any void.
