Before there was Beck or Hannity…Before there was Micheal Savage…Before there was FOX News, there was…

The cigarette smoking, lib trashing, monster from cable, Morton Downey Jr.  Prior to going off to college to be indoctrinated, I watched this show regularly on WOR.

BTW, does any one else remember the fact that for much of the 80′s, WOR showed the original King Kong on EVERY HOLIDAY??

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

WOR played the original King Kong and Mighty Joe Young. My personal fav was March of the Wooden Soldiers every Thanksgiving.

Never watched Downey, but was a very early listener to Rush many years ago while I was constantly on the road in Arkansas. Lived in the country in those days and didn’t have cable and refused to get a dish. Network T.V. and radio was my source of news and commentary.

@ edzhead, I had forgotten about Mighty Joe Young, I didn’t like that one so well. Only so many giant ape films I can watch in a day. I never caught the Thanksgiving thing. I was watching the football, and eating the turkey! Thanks for commenting!

    @ Angel, Thanks!

@ Ron, My first talker that I listened to regularly was Jim Quinn out of Pittsburgh. I listen to Limbaugh now and then, I usually don’t have time for too many talkers. I’m in a small market now, so there are few stations for them.

A classic. I remember watching that show here in the Midwest. I also remember Morton being on one of the Wrestlemania’s with Roddy Piper.

If you listen to him at about the 6:07 mark, right after he asks the question about Ollie North you get a glimpse of how what we are fighting is nothing new. We have beaten back the liberal horde before and we can do it again, gentlemen.

To bad old Mort went a little nuts and went and carved that swastika on his forehead (backwards because he did it in the mirror) then accused black racists of doing it…but always fun to watch.

    Very true edzhead, very true.

Don, you speak a great truth. We can defeat them, for now. We just have to keep the pressure on, and take back the educational system.

Not only Kong, but Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young–all in a row.

  • Matt September 24, 2009 at 2:23 am

You’re right, of course. I had forgotten.

I can top Morton Downey Jr. with Wally George! He was around long before Mort, Jr. And, if you do not know about Wally, here is an actual fair source, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wally_George.
