As we all know (in spite of the Media Formerly Known as Mainstream ignoring the story), ACORN workers in several states have been caught on tape advising undercover reporters on how to commit tax evasion, hide income obtained via prostitution, and turning a blind eye to child prostitution.  Several workers have been fired, and ACORN has been kicked out of the Census plan, as well as de-funded by the Congress, and the IRS is dumping ACORN in it’s tax assistance program.

The CEO of ACORN has come forward and promised reform (LOL :P ).  But then, ACORN has done something right out of Alinsky’s playbook; they are going after the people that exposed them!  That’s right, they have filed a lawsuit against the filmmakers, as well as the owner of the site BigGvoernment.com, Andrew Breitbart.  This from Politico:

In the complaint, ACORN alleges that the filmmakers entered into the organization’s offices in July with a “hidden camera and microphone” and taped employees Tonja Thompson and Shera Williams. Both employees are listed as plaintiffs on the complaint, filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.

The crux of the lawsuit centers around a Maryland law which makes it illegal to tape someone without their consent – ACORN is alleging O’Keefe and Giles did so. ACORN is asking for $500,000 in damages to be awarded to each of the employees filmed by O’Keefe and Giles, and ACORN itself wants $1 million in damages.

So, the fired workers that ACORN seemed to throw under the bus, are named as plaintiffs?  At least on the surface, how far has ACORN really distanced themselves from these workers?  After all, they offered assistance in concealing CHILD PROSTITUTION! I guess the “bad apples” aren’t bad enough to be excluded from the lawsuit.

Does ACORN realize that filing this suit threatens to leave themselves open to discovery?  I mean, the defendants can ask for all sorts of information, and can present a ton of it in court, which makes it public, does it not?

ACORN hasn’t realized that the right has read “Rules for Radicals.”  We know what they are doing.  This is nothing more than an attempt to punish the people that exposed ACORN.  Clearly, ACORN is more upset about being caught than they are upset about any wrongdoing.  They’ll likely lose, but the general idea is to make the targets expend a ton of money in defending themselves.  It is also intended to send a message to others that would attempt to expose them. The thugs are going out with the only method they know. They’re being thugs!

I don’t think that they realize that their organization is now known for being the fraudulent joke that it is.  Each action that they take adds to that view.  In this attempt to punish the people that exposed them, they are just proving their opponents correct.  Keep it up ACORN, you’re accelerating your own downfall, which makes most of us very happy.

That being said, we have to start watching for the next group that picks up communist flag in terms of thuggery, voter registration fraud, and general Cloward-Piven nonsense.  For the left, the job needs done, and I don’t think they care who does it.  The question is, will another larger organization take over these functions, or will there be a bunch of smaller organizations?  Will ACORN break up into many smaller organizations with different names, but the same funding stream?  We will need to watch, learn, and communicate about who or what takes the place of ACORN…and expose them!

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

According to Greta S. she saids this move by ACORN could easily backfire on them and leave then open to being forced to reveal more than they want. Its not at all surprising.

I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this. Thanks for the info. I’m still thinking that it’s hilarious that they’re sticking with the Alinsky Method. I think that’s all they have, and they haven’t demonstrated sufficient creativity to try something new.

  • innominatus September 24, 2009 at 10:24 pm

Yeah, they’re stuck in Alinsky mode, but the rules aren’t as useful for a defensive battle. They’re getting whupped on and they don’t know what to do about it – like Hillary after Super Tuesday – no “Plan B.”

This is quintessential liberalism. Never be accountable for your own actions, always find someone else to blame. After all, it’s not ACORN’s fault. No, it’s Breitbart’s and the filmmaker’s fault for publicizing it.

It’s just like what’s going on the “Obama Loves the Little Children” song the elementary school children were forced to sing. The Superintendent apparently saw nothing wrong the song. Instead, he was upset that it was recorded and uploaded to the Internet without permission–classic liberalism.

I agree with Ron’s comment. This will probably backfire as long as the Judge isn’t on the Dem’s payroll

@ innominatus, I agree. I think they’re trying to go on the offensive and re-take the initiative. But the result will be the same. I do think ACORN will want the videos scrubbed from the tubes, but I imagine that they have been downloaded quite a few times by now. What is saved and scrubbed can be re-posted. I just hope the filmmakers release the rest of the videos before some gag-order kicks in.

@ Josh, you are so right! This is everything we thought about liberalism being played out before our eyes. You can just sit back and listen. They do our work for us.

@ Forgotten Liberty, that is a concern, and I bet ACORN will be looking to have the most “activist” judge they can get.

The young girl and probably the young man are judgment proof. Wonder what ACORN’s former attorney, BHO, has to say about the case.

ACORN – we need a new name to go with this abbreviation. Like the post’s picture but it is missing the “outhouse moon” on the site. Obviously, ACORN would be full of crap and useless paper.

If we were all used the Alinski method to mock ACORN and BHO it would go a long way. You have all seen the LOL bumper sticker with the Obama campaign design for the letter “O”. Everyone should use this sticker everywhere in connection with these and other BHO stories. We need to incorporate an acorn. Anyone good with photoshop?

@ OzarkGuru, I endorse this idea. Mrs. Evil Matt is adept at Photoshop. I will enlist her aid.

  • Ron Russell September 26, 2009 at 2:03 pm

I bet the trash bins outside every ACORN office are full of shredded paper and the same can be said for the White House—like a cat covering his shi…t!!!!

  • Don September 26, 2009 at 2:32 pm

ACORN=A Communist Organization against the Right, Now?

ACORN=Always Commit to Only Recording Nobody?

    *shrug*

Beats what they really stand for, which is exploiting the poor for their own benefit.

@ Ron, You’d better believe it! It’s a sure bet that ACORN’s spending on business machines has sharply increased. There’ll be a shredder shortage!

Don, I have a great idea…Thanks for the inspiration!
