A friend of this blog, the Amusing Bunni, linked the following video.
How real is it? I have no idea. But what I can say is that there is a good chance that this video, and the related story, might receive a lot of attention. So, I thought I might get ahead of it with my opinion on the matter.
I honestly hope that the POTUS is an American citizen. This goes beyond the concern that a foreign national could go through the entire process of becoming president without being vetted, which should be addressed. For me, this goes to the ideology that we are fighting.
That being said, I look at the birth certificate issue from a very functional perspective. I don’t care who the POTUS actually is. It could have been Hillary Clinton. It could have been anyone on the left. The fact is that any leftist candidate would be pursuing similar agendas. And it’s the agenda that we are fighting, not the man. I want to defeat Obama’s ideas. I want to expose his beliefs. I want to expose his minions. I want the people to see what the liberal ideology is really all about. And, if he passes any significant legislation on Cap and Trade or ObamaCare, I want to be able to explain to people that their resultant suffering is caused by that agenda. To contrast, the entire birth certificate issue places the emphasis on Obama the man, not Obama the progressive. It takes attention off the ideology, and focuses on the person of Obama. That, in my opinion, is a losing strategy, and plays into the hands of an experienced community organizer. To explain that a bit further, please look at my earlier post on the birth certificate issue.
If we can defeat the left based on ideology, we have a chance to set them back for several years, perhaps a decade. Then, we have a chance to undo some of the damage that Obama has done, as well as take some actions on systemic change that will prevent our freedoms from being taken bit by bit. We are in a war of attrition with an ideological enemy. Our weapons are words and ideas. I believe that the entire birth certificate issue distracts from that struggle.
In all fairness, if it does turn out that he’s not a citizen, then he’s unqualified to serve. That’s simple. However, I’m not exactly clear on the mechanism to remove him in that circumstance. Who exactly would that fall to? Holder? The SCOTUS? The Congress? Complications abound, and it will be a political show for the ages.
I write this with the realization that some might get upset with me. It’s not intentional or personal, nor can it be helped. As with anything else that I post, it’s just one man’s opinion.
Consider this an open thread.

Matt, I did a bit of digging and found this site -
http://web.archive.org/web/20040627142700/eastandard.net/headlines/news26060403.htm
I captured the page just in case.
Also, and like you, I am not putting a lot of stock into this, but I did find it and it seems legit. This is supposedly a case of Obama saying that he wasn’t born in the United States during a taped debate with Alan Keyes.
http://thepostnemail.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/obama-concedes-hes-not-a-nbc-in-obama-vs-keyes-2004-debate/
To borrow a bit from a certain news agency – we post, you decide.
I have believed for a long time that the birth certificate issue is the wrong road for us to travel in opposing President Obama. If it turned out that he wasn’t an American citizen, there would be major turmoil in our country, if someone tried to have him removed. Those who voted for him and believe in his form of government would object, possibly to the extent of armed conflict. We need to focus on his ideology, as you said.
Matt, did you hear the radio interview with the Kenyan ambassador, where he kinda admits (or is subtly lead into doing so) that Obama was born in Kenya:

Not quite sure what to make of it, but, as LDJ said, better to oppose him on his infantile socialist policies.
Although I would love it if he did somehow turn out to be foreign…
I agree with what you say about Obama’s ideas being more dangerous than him personally. But honestly, I think I’d be delighted with any non-violent means of getting him out of the White House (impeachment). We can’t afford to wait till 2012 to do so.
This is a war with two fronts. They are separate.
The birth issue is actually more important, because it is a matter of law, a Constitutional issue. It is separate from political disagreements. Any usurper must be removed from the Presidency no matter what their politics are.
In this case, the fact that Obama may be a usurper meshes with his pattern of artfully saying one thing, and then doing another. He is a con man.
I am saying that the two issues must be kept separate, but each should be pursued. Mixing them together makes a mess and reduces the chances of success for both. Keeping them separate keeps matters clear while fighting this travesty.
The birth issue will be decided by courts (if there is any integrity to be found there.) The politics will be decided by debates and votes.
Te birth certificate issue should be dropped. If the vetting process failed then it’s just to late.
It’s immaterial whether he’s an American or not,at this point. He’s President and frankly I don’t see him going anyplace.
Pushing the birth certificate issue wastes valuable resources that could be spent speaking about what needs to be done to set our country right.
I look at this a little differently Matt. If the story should turn out to be true, granted there would be no easy way to remove him, but it would expose him as a liar and make it very difficult for him to advance his agenda. Americans may not care where he was born, but they do hate liars and this will destroy the progressives march toward some form of socialism. Liars when exposed are not longer believed and this would be the “father of all lies”. This is why this must be pursued.
@ Don, Thanks for the links. I just think that this is a ton of circumstantial evidence that leads to no where. The POTUS could end this all with one simple action. But he won’t, it serves to distract us.
@ LD, I agree. It’s messy and inconclusive. Fighting the ideas will leave us polarized as a nation, but the middle will see where each side stands.
@ Track, I know about the temptation, but we can own this guy on the issues if we stay focused and we get some good political leadership.
@ Karen, I don’t think we have any choice but to wait until 2012. If the Republicans start to act like something Conservative, they can re-take at least one house in 2010. Then, we try to expose Obama playing his games until 2012. If he wins in 2012, there’s no way anyone can hold off communism for the following 4 years.
@ Greg, well said sir.
@ Ron, I see your point. But I still must disagree. I remember back in the Clinton years, they were really good (at least at first) with planting fake stories out there so the right would run with them. Then, they would expose the story in an effort to discredit the right. When I first heard of the birth certificate issue, that was the very first thing I thought of. The POTUS could end this in one second, but why should he? There are many on the right devoting a huge amount of time to it…time that isn’t being used against single payer, cap and trade, indoctrination, you name it. I think it serves his purpose, hence, his silence. If your opponent is wasting time and effort pursuing and unachievable goal, why interfere?
The birther issue is like me telling the IRS…ah, screw you…the 16th amendment is bogus.
At the end of the day, I’m in a cell with Wesley Snipes and Obugger is still pResident.
I have to think…let’s say he isn’t a citizen. Does he get impeached? If so, does anyone in their right mind think that Pelosi and Reid will do that? There isn’t any block in the federal government that would want to act on it, even if it were true. Even if they did, no one is going to get past Pelosi and the other moonbats. We have to remember that we’re dealing with the left here. They don’t care about the truth, reality, facts, and so on. Hell, they’d probably try to persecute anyone coming forward with concrete evidence, should any actually exist.
I have been amused by the notion of Obama possibly not being a US citizen since this birth certificate issue came about. And I want him out of the White House as much as any conservative would. However, I am not entirely sure one way or the other concerning his place of birth. I guess you can say that is one issue in which I am on the fence. And like you, I really don’t think it will make a change (for the better) in policy right now if he were to be taken out of office. It has been an interesting story, but I do agree that many have allowed it to draw their attention from the things that are truly important. However, it does prove that Obama is hiding things which always makes a person appear guilty. And that can be applied to many aspects of one’s life, not just nationality. I really like that your blog shows people how to pick out the distractions that the liberals and progressives throw out to get us off the path of calling them out on their agenda.
Well said Truthdetective. I’m for sticking with the issues. The win will be more definitive, or at least as definitive as it can be with the left.
Matt! I want to thank you for the Hat tip on your great website! I am first finding it now, and I have blog rolled you too! I have been a bit tied up lately. I’m glad you enjoyed the debate this video is causing. It was sent to me by a friend, and seemed to be credible. I am not a big “birther” but I do agree with several commenters that if it is true, it will expose obummer as a liar, and also since all the libs are alike, it really won’t change things. Like Dave said, even if it was true, they will never get rid of him, but I can dream, because I just loathe him so completely, that if I never had to look at his sneering mug or hear his lying voice again, it would cheer me up immensely! Great Site, thanks for blogrolling me.
Thanks Bunni, I’ve been commenting at your place for a while. I think we’re friends on FaceBook too.
I agree, that we must focus on defeating liberals on the basis of ideology, and revealing how their policies will hurt the country. I do think that Obama’s birth certificate is important in the sense that he hasn’t released his full, or long birth certificate. I’m pretty sure that he’s from Hawaii, but on the other hand there is some evidence pointing to him being born in Kenya. I hope he is an American citizen, because if he isn’t, that would be the biggest scam in American history committed against the American people, and would not look favorably on the United States’s image. I think the fact that he has not released his long form birth certificate as well as college records is stunning since that is the norm for past Presidents. If I must show my long form birth certificate in order to register my vehicle and change my license when transferring them from one state to another, I believe Obama should be obligated to show his to become President.
I love the Picture!!
