As many of the regular visitors to this blog know, education is one of my main areas of interest.  The evidence shows that the left has targeted public education for decades now, and are using it as an indoctrination tool.  Socialism/Progressivism/Communism are promoted, and the founding principals of our Republic are trashed, if they are mentioned at all.  Conservatives on campus are marginalized, and sometimes penalized for their beliefs.  I’ve been discouraged by the recent turn for the worse in public education (Barak Hussein Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm), as well as the fact that the left see’s no problem with that.  I was wondering how we could fight back, as even if we eliminated the Department of Education, we’d still have to deal with a bloated socialist bureaucracy, a power hungry teacher’s union, thousands of brainwashed useful idiots at the state and local level, as well as thousands of brainwashed teachers and other staff.   To my surprise and encouragement, I was recently contacted by an organization that is worthy of our attention and support.

Campus Reform is an organization that helps Conservative Groups at the college level raise awareness about Conservative ideology.  They help with activities, advise on presentations and  speakers.  They help expose liberal professors, and offer links to other Conservative organizations.  They seem to be active at many universities across the country.  Their website is here.  It’s well worth a look.

The following is an activity that they have planned for Halloween.  I think this will be informative, as well as  hilarious.

Still wondering what costume to buy for Halloween? Well now you can be both fiscally conservative and socially responsible. Brought to you by MatterNow at Valdosta State University is “Dress up Like Your Favorite Czar for Halloween.” In order to create awareness about the radical Obama administration, together we can educate other students on college campuses across the nation in a fun and informative way.

The only materials you will need are:

  1. Costume (clothing, accessories, etc.)
  2. Sign (Saying what Czar you are, what their job is, and what their extremist background and vague current activities are)
  3. Also be prepared to answer any questions about your Czar (in case a leftist interrogates you).
  4. Informational literature
  5. Bowl of candy (optional)

The best way to carry out this event is to pick a date around Halloween so it is relative to the time of year. A good way to do this event on campus is to set up a table with information about the radical agenda of the Obama administration and his fanatical collection of Czars. Students can place the table in an area with heavy foot traffic. As some students stay nearby the table to discuss the purpose of this activism event with curious passerby’s, other students in costume can walk around in a populated area with literature, which will also help direct students to the information table. Another good idea is to have a bowl of candy at the table to detail the Halloween time relationship and also entice students.

This organization is not going to single-handedly turn the entire liberal education establishment around.  But they have a great way to start; by confronting the liberal ideology being passed for truth at the universities, as well as helping to give Conservative students ways to find their voice.   By having entertaining and educational activities, people can learn about Conservatism (and the lies of the left), and help defeat the left’s monopoly on campus ideology.  The left seeks to ban all dissent, but fine organizations like this can go a far way towards fighting the ideological battle.  We have to remember that when people realize that they are not alone in what they believe, they can draw upon the support of others to become politically active.  The more we support others, and let them know that they are not alone, the more people will learn about Conservatism.  That, my friends, is what the left fears the most!

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

When I get back with you I would like to discuss a possibility of putting together a research analysis paper on education. I will email you further details when I return on the 2nd of Nov. Right now I am negotiating the acquisition of two lawyers on our staff.

Fantastic organization Matt. I was listening to a podcast of Newt Gingrich giving a speech about, among other things, education. He said many things that would help to begin the process of reforming the way we look at education in this country. Here are a few:

In India, by the end of the 10th grade, students there have had four years of physics. We need to stress our sciences and mathematics.

Create an incentive to high school students by giving the cost of the fourth year of high school to students who graduate in three years as a scholarship to the college of their choice.

Create more schools such as the University of the Ozarks. It is a work study school, where the only students who can apply are ones who qualify for student aid. However, they have no student aid at all. Instead, if the student will work 15 hours a week, and two forty hour weeks on break, then their books and tuition are paid. Further, if they will work 12 forty hour weeks in the summer, their room and board is taken care of as well.

      Some things to think about.

Oops, I misspoke. It is the College of the Ozarks, not University of the Ozarks.

        Edited to add:

I forgot to mention that the College of the Ozarks was founded in 1906 and 92% of the students graduate with NO DEBT.

@ LP. Thanks sir. I have tons of anecdotal evidence, research will be interesting. I have an inside angle on this, but you’ll have to email me for the details.

@ Don, We have to be cautious sir. There are many good ideas out there, but we also have to realize that under the 10th, education is a state & local issue. My view is that the entire federal bureaucracy needs to be abolished. If any ideas are to be implemented, it will have to be at those levels. Otherwise, all of your ideas are interesting. The really cool thing is that is the 10th were honored, we’d eventually see a huge disparity between red and blue states. It would hilarious to watch the libs try to explain away their fail!

The idea of the last year of high school becoming tuition would of course need to be implemented at the state level.

Yes, it would be fun to watch the libs chase their tails for a change.

Sound like a great group Matt. I was a part of the campus scene for many years. I was raised on the campus at Univ of So Miss and spent many years going to school there and later to graduate school at LSU and UF. I’ve witness many changes over the years and sadly most were unwelcome. Many great Universities have tilted left even here in the deep south the base of conservativism in this country. I do see sign of hope in the many new groups springing up on campuses throughout the country. These things seem to have an ebb and flow to them and I can only hope thats true. Conservative voices are definately in the minority on campus and this must be changed in order to have a fair exchange of ideas—we do not have this now. I think Obama and his group of radicals may do more to bring about change than he planned and not the change he had in mind. I feel an awakening and a rebirth of conservative values.

My college experience was pretty boring. I mean, we were given our daily recommended dose of socialism, but it was the late 80′s, and political apathy was the order of the day. There were small groups here and there, but even the lefty professors complained about the lack of interest among the students. Now, it is my understanding that things are so much different. All we need to do is hold the line and work the middle. We’ll always have the hard left. They’re never going to go away. And, unlike the left, we don’t have to silence them to get our point across. The left has to silence every other opinion, as theirs falls apart when compared to reality. If the middle get’s exposed to a philosophy that matches reality, we win.

A great cause. A blogger friend is one of the organizers (http://pinkelephantpundit.com/). This is a group every alum should become part of.
