Lou Dobbs, veteran CNN anchor has announced that he will be parting ways with his cable news home of the last 30 years. After repeated warnings for him to “tone down” his newscasts, Dobbs has indicated he will be leaving CNN, but staying on his radio show.
One can only wonder if this means that he will be following Glenn Beck and John Stossel and show up soon on Fox. But it may not be a slam dunk, though. Geraldo Rivera, along with Media Matters has been critical of Dobbs. Media Matters was driving a “Drop Dobbs” campaign after he became outspoken about President Obama, especially on the issue of his birthplace. Rivera has been on record saying, “Lou Dobbs is almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of the young-Latino-as-scapegoat for everything that ails this country,” just two weeks ago.
A CNN staffer said that Dobbs was not very popular within the CNN family. His former boss, CNN President Jon Klein has been attempting to deliver a “middle of the road” version of the news to try and contrast both MSNBC and Fox News. How Dobb’s exit will affect Klein’s vision remains to be seen.
“I’m the last of the original anchors here on CNN, and am proud to have had the privilege of helping to build the world’s first news network,” Dobbs said in announcing his departure. “I am grateful for the many opportunities that CNN has given me over these many years, I’ve tried to reciprocate with the full measure of my ability and my energy.” And those issues that Dobbs is passionate about? They are the plight of the middle class, health care, job creation, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq – and immigration. Oddly enough these are the same issues that resonate at Fox News. So in this author’s humble opinion, it would seem to me that the things that Dobbs is interested in covering are much the same as the issues that concern middle America – and this makes him too “extreme” for a supposedly unbiased news channel? I would say that CNN’s loss could well be Fox’s gain.

I’ve enjoyed watching Lou Dobbs. After Glenn Beck left he was the only voice of reason at CNN. People accuse Fox of being nothing but a right wing news network. They hire more left leaning commentators, than CNN and MSNBC together hire right leaning commentators. Geraldo is not told to tone it down. I hope Lou Dobbs does end up on Fox and sticks it to CNN like Glenn Beck did.
Although I seldom agree with Lou Dobb’s political opinions, I admire the fact that he won’t say only what a network wants him to say. I admire him because he stand up for what HE believes is right and that’s why he won’t put up with a network who pays him to tell me what I want to believe, nor will he put up with the way FOX news pays a Talk show host to make people afraid. Right or wrong, Lou Dobbs is a good American who obviously loves his country..so I as a democrat and a bit liberl….I wish Lou Dobbs well. May he be one of the increasingly few who actually choose to produce news that’s based on what he believes is right, not for the sake of being right all the time or to abuse the truth with lies others hide behind! YOu go Lou! Even democrats are proud of you!
He could be moving to FOX and that would be great if a spot could be found. I suggest Shepard Smith’s show. That would be great, for Shep is about as useful as a flea on a hound dog.
Dobbs, if he goes to Fox, will probably go to Fox Business News. Let’s not forget that he made his mark and brought high ratings to CNN with his business show.
As far as the statement that Fox pays their talk show hosts to make people afraid, that is, ironically just hyperbole. If you are referring to Glenn Beck, then I can assure you that Fox allows their television personalities considerable leeway as long as the ratings are there. And with the last ratings coming in with Fox occupying ALL TEN of the top ten shows.
Lol, Shep isn’t the most thrilling guy in the world, that much is certain.
I was never really familiar with Mr. Dobbs. His show is on at a time that I am usually spending time with the wife and kiddo. However, if CNN wants to position themselves in the middle, it might make things interesting, particularly for MSNBC. If CNN gets more share, it may likely come from MSNBC, and not FOX. Considering that NBC is betting the farm on Jay Leno in primetime, they can’t afford to lose much more.
Although I did like it when he dropped the F bomb on TV when they were discussing the supposed torture of Gitmo detainees.
“…WE ARE AMERICA! I DON’T GIVE A RAT’S ASS IF IT HELPS! WE ARE AMERICA! WE DO NOT F*CKING TORTURE!!……..Oops.”
ROFLMAO!!!
I especially liked the “Oops.” at the end.

LOL, I was not aware of that. Thanks!
I love your title! Great one. I don’t agree with everything Lou says but I think he is a man of integrity and character and I like that about him. It is something that is sorely lacking in many journalist nowadays.
If he does indeed end up at Fox, I can only imagine how Obama will take that. Oh no! Another one over to FOX!
If he were to replace Sheppard, Oh thank you God! I just can’t relate to him at all.
Whatever Lou does, I wish him well! He has served America noble for many, many years!
Thank you Dominique. If you want a chuckle, check out the video link about Shep in the post right above yours.
Gee, I’m just wondering if CNN’s sr. mgt. is upset with Joy Behar for being so outspoken? That network is tougher on former Miss California than they are on Obama. It’s a shame; Dobbs was the ONLY reason I ever tuned into CNN. He’s the last newsperson there withany integrity. His career will soar at FOX where he can finally have the liberty to be free to express his commentary and truly report for America.
