Anita Dunn, the departing White House Communications Director, has continued to fire away at FOX News.  These are some of her comments via Politico.

And she said that the White House criticism has been effective in preventing other networks from picking up stories broken by Fox.

“It did help people get a sense of perspective again,” Dunn said. “People took a step back and said, ‘Hmm, am I really wanting to go chase those stories?’”

But Dunn declined to say that MSNBC, which employs several liberal commentators as anchors in prime time, is equally ideological.

“Now, I will say this: MSNBC has as their host of their morning program a former Republican congressman who was a member of Newt Gingrich’s revolution,” Dunn said in defense of the network. “I do regard them as different as a network, absolutely.”

Asked by Hunt if President Obama was aware ahead of time that she was planning to attack Fox, Dunn responded, “I am not a person who is known for going rogue, OK?”

This says a great deal about the “war” of FOX News, which culminated with the White House threatening to cut of access to FOX, and the MSM declining to play ball.

1.  She clearly implies that that the POTUS was aware, and approving of the attack on FOX.  While everyone knew that, it’s nice to have confirmation.

2.  The fact that she see’s MSNBC as a news network is indicative of one of two options; one, she is delusional, or two, she she’s covering for their best mouthpiece.

3.  She reveals perhaps the true intent of the attacks, in that the White House feels confident that the MSM will not follow the stories that FOX uncovers.

Number three was perhaps the central objective.  FOX has been, and probably will continue, breaking stories about the administrations policies, the views (often radical) of administration officials, and (favorable) coverage of the protests against the administration.  I would venture to guess that the administration thinks that FOX is viewed exclusively by rednecks and racists, and as long as these stories stay on FOX, the supporters of the administration will hear nothing of what members of the administration are actually saying or doing.  They do not want their supporters to become “discouraged” by information that exposes the administration to scrutiny or criticism.  They also don’t want independents or uncommitted voters hearing anything about the administration.  Additionally, keeping FOX discredited, and preventing the MSM from covering anything against the administration will prevent what FOX is reporting from gaining more traction among the public.  Remember, if you can discredit the person, or entity, you can ignore the messages of said entity  without any examination.

Remember Alinsky…

13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.

That’s what they are doing.

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

To be honest, there have been times when I felt like FOX had went overboard in their coverage. There have also been multiple times when it was clear the MSM failed utterly to cover a story that was newsworthy. I find it completely ludicrous that the White House would stoop to the level of trying to bully FOX and the rest of the media into shutting up. Ludicrous, but very believable. That’s the way they have worked in the past and will continue to do so.

I agree LD, it’s an interesting situation. It will only get worse as we become more polarized as a nation.

What else would one expect from Anita Dunn a committed leftest and in all likelyhood a RED. She will continue her attacks long after she is gone.

    • Matt November 17, 2009 at 7:30 pm

That much is certain. As will Van Jones.

It is important to remember Obama’s “coming of age” politically and where that took place. Chicago. He continues to employ Chicago style, Daley political machine tactics to get his agenda across.

By attacking Fox, or rather having Dunn do it, Obama achieves the following:

    1. He remains above the fray for having her and Axelrod and Rahmbo do his dirty work for him. That is appealing to the independents out there that still want to see him as a pragmatic centrist.

    2. This smacks of “Wag the Dog,” in that by highlighting attention on how “bad” Fox is, it takes focus away from what he is doing behind the scenes, allowing him more room and time to work on his agenda.

    3. As Matt so aptly pointed out, this is straight out of Rules for Radicals by Alinsky. This point is more of a method, than an accomplishment brought about by attacking Fox, but well worth the mention, none-the-less.

I agree with you Don, and also have to admit that your analysis is deeper than mine.

They did send the minions out to do the dirty work. However, that raised questions as to whether or not the POTUS was in control. So, it was kind of like a double edged sword.

Oh, El Presidente had a hand in it. Just look at the campaign and all the comments he made about Hannity. He has very thin skin, this one.

BTW, you should have titled this one, “Anita isn’t quite ‘Dunn’ Attacking Fox News”
        :P

        • Matt November 17, 2009 at 11:52 pm

Could have, but at any rate, the left is never Dunn, Anita or otherwise. :D

          • Don November 18, 2009 at 12:26 am

BTW, did you hear that while in Asia, POTUS is being interviewed by Major Garrett?

  • Matt November 18, 2009 at 12:38 am

    WHAAAAAT??? That is unprecedented.

    • Don November 18, 2009 at 12:52 am

Yeah I read it on TF’s blog.

How much clearer can government control of the media get?

I swear that those who still support BHO must have blinders on — or be sporting dead gray matter.

    • Matt November 18, 2009 at 12:04 pm

That what kills me…they freaking BRAG about it. And the networks say…BAAAAAAAA!

I think it’s the old Soviet psychological warfare stuff that’s still working. They talked about causing people to be so discouraged and confused that they wouldn’t be able to see or act on the truth even if it was displayed to them. The KGB themselves said it succeeded beyond their expectations.

Don’t forget Alinsky’s 5th rule: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.

    • Matt November 18, 2009 at 12:06 pm

That seems to be your mantra as of late. Keep it up, my friend.

This woman is like a spoiled 2 year old. If she can’t have the toys she want to break them. Who can understand what makes someone just plain mean?
