John Coleman has had many accomplishments in his lifetime. He began his career in my home state of Illinois at WCIA, the CBS affiliate in Champaign. He did the early evening weather cast and a local music “bandstand” style show called At The Hop. This was while he was attending the University of Illinois. After receiving his journalism degree in ’57, WCIA made him the weather anchor for their sister station in Peoria, IL, WMBD-TV. He also worked as a weatherman in Nebraska, Wisconsin and Chicago where he helped to form a news brand name dubbed “happy talk” by a reporter. This was at the venerable WLS-TV station, and this style of local news has been widely copied. You can see it now in the morning shows that dot the news channel landscape.

After his ratings domination in the Chicago market, ABC tapped him to do the weather for their fledgling new morning program, Good Morning America. He was there for 7 years in GMA’s heyday, when the program was anchored by David Hartman and Joan Lunden. You all remember those days, right? Back when the news, for the most part, was the news, not a political statement. But I digress.

Then in 1981 he, along with communications mogul Frank Batten developed, created and launched The Weather Channel. He was TWC’s CEO and President during the start-up and first year of operation. After leaving TWC, he bounced around as weather anchor in New York and Chicago before settling where he is now, at KUSI-TV in San Diego, California. By all accounts, Mr. Coleman is happy, calling KUSI his “retirement job.”

I just wanted to present a little background on John Coleman, because he has become a very outspoken critic of AGW and Al Gore. His manner and delivery is anything but hysterical, he presents his data in a straightforward way with no hyperbole or fear mongering that is so prevalent in the AGW movement.

Please take the 8 minutes or so and watch this video. It is informative and interesting and if you’re not careful, you just might learn something. I did.

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

That’s an interesting video and the sunspot effect is worth noting. I’ve always thought the sun played a larger part in things than was once believed. We learn more every day on this and it is a fairly new science.

I know it is hard for the Gore-distas to believe, but that big ball of hot energy hanging up in our sky actually affects our climate. Who woulda thunk it?

Thanks for posting this video, Don. It’s very informative, but I fear it will do no good. Those who are believers in global warming simply refuse to see the truth.

I would like to see him and Lord Monckton have a nice NAFTA style debate with Al Gore.
