I have to admit that sometimes, posts come about about in the strangest ways. On my hard-drive, there are numerous links and half finished posts that for whatever reason, didn’t make the cut at the time. I either couldn’t finish them, or just didn’t see a way to make them relevant or well evidenced.
A couple of these “posts in limbo” received new life on Saturday. The Totus Blog did a post on whether or not young people would come to regret supporting Obama. It was a fine post, so check it out. Originally, the post came with a pic that portrayed two young people in an embrace, wearing Democrat t-shirts. This instantly reminded me of Rock the Vote’s campaign for Health Care Reform. So, the lefties are to with hold sex from people that are against ObamaCare. Now, that reminded me of yet another dead post. Take a look at this….
A study of urban teenage girls in Indianapolis found that half contracted a sexually transmitted disease within two years of becoming sexually active and virtually all were infected within four.
If those findings weren’t stark enough, the study by the Indiana University School of Medicine and an affiliated research group, the Regenstrief Institute, says that three-fourths of the girls who get infected once are likely to get infected a second time within the next two years.
The study, appearing in the December issue of Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, suggests that sexually transmitted diseases are much more prevalent in teen populations than previously expected and that parents and doctors need to start talking to girls as young as 10 or 11 about the risks involved in sex at an early age.
“With relatively little sexual experience,” said Dr. J. Dennis Fortenberry, IU professor of pediatrics and a senior author of the study, “they are exposed to these infections fairly early on. And that’s because there is a lot of it circulating.”
Other research has given more insight on such infections among American girls. Last year, a study of 834 teenage girls by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that at least one in four has a sexually transmitted disease.
OK, I know, this is about public schools teens, and Rock the Vote is likely targeted at the generic college lefty demographic. However, can we safely assume that college kids are likely way more sexually active? And considering that the study quoted in the article was longitudinal, those kiddos are likely college aged now.
Then, I thought I might take a look at some national figures from the CDC…

Thanks for the H/T Matt. I don’t like this “sex for vote” thing, but its certainly not a trend. Women have been selling their favors for years, for many reasons–money, power, and even politics. I think of Julius Ceasar and Cleopatra. I suppose the openness of this latest thing with young people has garnered more attention to a very old tradition. Yep, the oldest profession has new members who probably fail to recognize their participation in that shady occupation!
