So, the White House has posted the ObamaCare plan & the Republicans are set to meet in the sham of a meeting with the administration later today. There are some issues, as we might expect. Here are the significant ones:
- The plan includes an individual mandate. It is blatantly unconstitutional.
- The plan does not ban public funding for abortion, and in so doing, endorses it.
- Basically, the requirements for insurance companies, including the approval for rate hikes, is a Cloward-Piven plan designed to cripple or eliminate the insurance industry, so the Government can move in, and take over.
So, this is really not so different that what we’ve been talking about for the last year. It’s nothing more than the opening steps towards single payer.
Given that the Democratic Party and the MSM is little more than giant Alinsky spewing mountains of propaganda, the Republicans should be prepared to defend against some outlandish claims, like they are defending the insurance industry. ( A simple “we’re defending the people from the government” would be a great start.) They should be prepared for the emotional driven attacks, like Congressman Shrek’s fake death toll. They should be ready for the “party of no” attack. If the Republicans just stick with the facts, and explain how the bill will increase costs, kill jobs, and end up causing rationing, they will do just fine.
So Republicans, the ball is in your court. Will you stand on principal, and make your case to the people, or will you cower and capitulate? Much depends on your actions in the coming weeks. The people have tired of the antics of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. Their agenda has been rejected, and the people are waiting to hear a viable alternative. If you rise to the occasion, the victories in November will be sweet. Some polls are showing the potential for unprecedented gains. Will you squander it?
If you make a stand, you keep the base active and very interested. You also will nicely contrast yourselves in the eyes of many independents, who have been soured by the Democrat’s lack of ethics. The choice is yours. Don’t screw it up.

I like Newt Gingrich’s idea that the Repubs should go into the meeting and say to Obama, that in the interest of bi-partisanship, he gets to control half the meeting and they get to control the other half. Also, that before debate can begin, they (Dems) need to take down the gun that is pointed at the heads of the GOP (nuclear option of reconcilliation). If those two conditions aren’t met, then the GOP should respectfully decline the “summit” and walk out. Party of NO be damned. When in the hell did it become bad to say no??
After seeing parts of the debate today. I think the Republicans did exactly what they needed to do. The went, they made their case, and some of the things I am seeing makes me think that they won. I’ll get into them in a future post (provided that I don’t lose power due to the “snowicane.”)
Today, Matt, it’s no longer a given that Republicans will stand for small government, so I don’t know. Anyone who doesn’t should be given the boot though come election time.
I had similar fears. From what I have seen so far, they did well.
Republicans will hold their ground on this one, they have a majority of the nation between them and they will not retreat!
So it seems, Ron. So it seems.
The Democrats better be careful. Once before in history we had a party of the elite who ignored the masses and we all know what happened to the Federalist Party.
Interesting thought Infidel. I would only add that the RINOs should also be reminded of what happened to the Whigs.
Maybe I’ve missed something along the way, but where are the Republican plans to repeal legislation? Government is 40% of your health care cost. Tax credits are Keynesian nonsense. Where’s the honest Goldwater Republican (besides “conservatives hate” Ron Paul) calling for massive repeals of legislation?
Freedom cannot be legislated.
You’re right CL. But I have to part ways with you in that they are in no position by which to make that case…yet. They are very much on the defensive. If we can get Conservatives in there in November, and get a good, strong, Conservative POTUS in 2012, then we can talk about that. It’s simply not in the cards right now. I have an idea for a post along these lines.
If you didn’t get a chance to see the Blair House Project streaming vid on CSPAN, but after the show the Republicans put on today I’m betting they’ll stand strong.
I’m hoping so. However, I think every debate and negotiation on this should be televised in this exact same way. That would make it interesting.
You hit the nail on the head Matt when you said blatantly unconstitutional.
I think that the Governors can put up something of a fight under the rights for states to govern themselves granted by the 10th Amendment. They can pass their own tort reform legislation as Sen.McCain pointed out; denounce the federal ban on interstate insurance policies, and so forth.
The republicans have got to be growing tired of the elitist mantra of the liberals in office that the rest of America are too stupid to understand a few big words as long as they bury them in 2400 pages. I think this summit is the Waterloo for the liberals.
The republicans will stand tall and challenge reconciliation of this bill which is the only hope of passing it.
Thanks Cracked World. From what I saw during the meeting, the Republicans were reasonable, and stated their case well. Obama was condescending, and dismissed any Republican idea or objection as a talking point.
I hope is was a Waterloo point. But this is only the beginning.
BTW, added you to the blogroll. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks, I shall add Conservative Hideout to my own.
@cracked world… The sad reality today was that I didn’t hear a single reference to the 10th Amendment all day. There were at least ten places where the Republicans could have countered with it and I am sad to report that they took another path… It is as if the 10th Amendment has become an unspeakable reminder of what used to be and no one will talk about. Until we right that wrong, I fear that we will never truly change the forum for this debate.
The republicans won’t bring up the 10th in a direct manner because they violate it regularly also. That breach of constitution and common sense will remain implied at best.
