I watched a good portion of the health care summit through various online media outlets.  I also read a variety of opinions on the meeting from a number of political pundits.  I will be the first to admit that I thought the Republicans were going to walk into a trap.  A trap set by a master puppeteer and his Democrat puppets.  Well after watching a number of snippets here and there I can actually say I thought the Republicans held their ground when given the time to state their case.  The Democrats monopolized the time, but the Republicans won the day in my opinion. They carried themselves in a calm professional manner and articulated their differences in a clear and understandable style.  I bought it.

When thinking about the summit I am reminded of Sir Walter Scott’s famous quote; “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”  Yesterday the Democrats got tangled up in their own web of deceit.  The President carefully spun the web of the summit in hopes of making the Republicans look like a bunch of old cranky blowhards that don’t want to move the nation forward.  His desire was to humiliate the opposition party and prove to the American people once and for all that the Republicans had no solutions to the complex healthcare issues we face in this country.  What happened at the summit went against the script the Democrats had carefully crafted.  The Republicans came to the table with ideas and challenged the feasibility of the Democratic plan; and it worked.

The party that looked cranky and petty was not the Republicans, but the Democrats.  Even the President at times looked irritated and upset with how the conversation was unfolding.  You see he wasn’t there to listen to the fresh ideas of a Paul Ryan.  He was there to improve his own image and tarnish the image of the Republicans.  In my opinion it backfired big time.  The reason I say this is because for months the Republicans have been trying to get camera time, but the MSM along with congressional Democrats have locked them out of the debate.  Well yesterday things changed.  The cameras were on both parties and the American people finally heard both sides of the debate.  No backdoor deals, no secret meetings, just people talking about the issues pertaining to healthcare.  The truth is out there and the voters now see the differences.  Yesterday they saw common sense approaches and free market ideas presented to fix healthcare.  They also saw an entrenched Democratic party not willing to listen to these new ideas.  This goes directly against what the people of this great nation desire out of their representatives.

So as you can see this went very bad for the Democrats and by Monday they’ll know and feel it. The President with all his oratory skills cannot overcome truth and facts. And when these truths and facts are presented in a clear and understandable manner the health care debate becomes a great deal thornier for the Democrats. If the Democrats choose to forge ahead after this meeting with reconciliation they’re done. And when I say done, I mean the very continued existence of their party may be in jeopardy.  And maybe that is something that needs to happen.

In the end this was a big day for the conservatives and a bigger day for the American people.  The truth is now out there and America has a choice to make.  I personally believe they have already made it.

Liberty forever, freedom for ALL!

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

Nice article with great insight into the mechanics of the faux health care summit. I agree with you and add that El Presidente wanted a repeat of what he deemed a “victory” when he attended the GOP retreat. At that time, he had the cameras only on him, he held the spotlight and led the debate. This time it was out in the open and he had much, much less control.

I posit this: Had the parties been reversed, that is had the GOP been in control of both houses and the oval office and the Dems been the minority; would they have had the temerity and class that was shown by the Repubs when they gave deference to the OFFICE, although not necessarily the man?

    In all likelihood not.

      Thanks Don.

I agree that if the shoe was on the other foot I very much doubt the Dems would have displayed the same class. The Dems don’t want to hear the truth, they want to manipulate it.

Great Post!! I watched the summit on and off also and I came out with the same impressions as you. The President and the Democrats were quite crabby at times and the Republicans were on their A-game and brought fresh, new ideas to the table. The Republicans did a great job overall.

      Thanks for the comments Teresa!

I think it went very well for the Republicans. So now we will wait and see. I think the Dems are going to try and ram this thing through.
