The “Coffee Party Movement” came to our attention last week. I waited to discuss it, as it reeked of a “progressive” astroturf operation, and I was waiting for evidence of that to emerge. Today, Newsbusters is reporting just that.
John Roberts and Kiran Chetry omitted mentioning that Annabel Park, the founder of the so-called Coffee Party, worked as a volunteer for President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, during an interview on Wednesday’s American Morning. The anchors also didn’t mention Park’s past work for the liberal New York Times.
The founder denied that her movement was aligned to any party, and actually criticized the longstanding two-party system in the United States as being “incredibly outdated.” In reality, as William A. Jacobson of Legal Insurrection blog exposed, Park worked for one of the two parties, as an organizer and operator of the United for Obama video channel on YouTube (NewsBuster P. J. Gladnick blogged about Jacobson’s expose on Tuesday evening). As the United for Obama page admits, “We are a network of Obama volunteers from all across the country and from all backgrounds working together to support Obama’s message of unity and change….Some of us are filmmakers and we created this page to amplify Obama’s message on YouTube…The filmmakers include…Annabel Park…”
So, this whole “coffee party” idea is nothing more than an extension of Obama’s army of useful idiots.
It might be safe to assume that this whole organization is being put together in an attempt to confuse the electorate, and steal some of the Tea Party movement’s thunder. It will fail at this, but they know that the MSM will cover them, and cover up their failure. It might also be assumed that since ACORN is busy renaming their local organizations in an effort to hide their corruption, and the SEIU is well known for being thugs, that their astroturf efforts require a new face that hasn’t been tainted by corruption and violence.
The left continues to labor under the false assumption that their ideas are what people want, and that somehow, we’re either too stupid to know how great they are, or that they haven’t properly “educated” us all about them. So, repackaging, changing the name, denying the content, and so on, will all be used. This fake populism is the same thing. Get another group out there, use the propaganda wing (The MSM) to promote them, and try to get some of the independents back.
In the end, the left will be expending resources for nothing, They fail to see that the people actually do not want big government solutions to our prolbems. We don’t want government run health care. We do not want government run car companies. We do not want $7 a gallon gas. We don’t want higher taxes. They also think that we don’t know that big government gave us these problems as well. They can try to sugarcoat it all they want, but like the Congressional Dems, they’ll find out how wrong they are.
I’m not at all concerned with this movement. They’ll try to bus in a bunch of people for paid protests. The MSM will make a big deal about it, and ignore the Tea Party next door with ten times the attendance, but that’s OK. They also fail to see that the MSM is irrelevant. They are clinging to the old paradigm that they can say anything, have the media repeat it, and the people will follow. We aren’t following the media, and we certainly won’t follow some paid useful idiots either. Leave them alone, and they’ll embarrass themselves with their fail.
As time wears on, we’ll find out more and more about these folks, and who is funding them. We’ll get the word out as information becomes available.
As it seems fitting, I have added the Coffee Party to the Useful Idiot of the Month poll. Enjoy!

Oh, I’ve already gone full blown with referring to libs as coffeebaggers on Twitter. Here’s a fun definition that actually makes the connotation of teabagger seem lame: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=coffeebagger
Somehow, I don’t see the folks at MSNBC using this term.
Matt, good post!
There are actually some pretty good videos on Youtube of Ms. Park. There is one where she is pledging her unwavering support for Obama. This whole Coffee Party movement is nothing but a ruse, designed to once again divert our attention from the real issues. I’m surprised the progressives didn’t think it was beneath them barrowing a concept that started with a bunch of dumb conservatives.
Thanks John. The “progressives” will send useful idiots to do their dirty work. Many foolishly believe that they are working towards a better future. The real elites sit back and lol.
I don’t even like coffee…
I love coffee, and I should be offended, but these Coffee Parties are like Starbucks-pretentious, overpriced, and bitter.
I hadn’t even heard of this until last night when I read about it at Politial Realities. It certainly is a left leaning group, and it appears to have been started to try to take votes away from the Tea Party, I don’t see that happening, the Tea Party seems to be the opposite of this maovemnt. And it now appears that this was much more organized than it appeard, and certainly more organized by insiders than the Tea Party ever was.
It is going to be interesting to see if the Coffee Party has staying power or not. I didn’t think the Tea Party would reach the hights that it has, but this seems different– contrived.
It’s a question of demographics. 20% liberal, 40% Conservative, the rest independent, and about 60% of the independents are going our way. They can’t get the numbers, unless they use the rent-a-mob strategy, and bus in all the SEIU and ACORN folks in. And, might I add, who is going to pay them to show up?
Coffeebagging is far worse than teabagging, cuz: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=coffeebagging
That it is, Snarky, but if we did to the coffee parties what the MSM did to the tra parties, wouldn’t we be racist or something?
Mike has already written about this on Political Realities, as Mr. Pink Eyes has noted. I have had a bit of fun with it in the comments there, but it does appear the movement has been contrived in response to the Tea Party. What they fail to understand is that the Tea Party is truly grassroots and is not organized nationally. That much should be very apparent, but it seems to have escaped the founders of the Coffee Party.
They have one site that organizes the whole thing. We have hundreds. They have one person at the center of their movement, we have millions. At some point, someone will figure out where the money is coming from.
I like coffee and I like tea, but the tea party is in reference to a historical resistance against the tea tax to fund a govt owned East India Shipping company, right after the Stamp Act that put alot of problems onto the shoulders of the colonists. The elite just don’t get it. They ask “Where were they during Bush?” Well we’ve been talking “tea party” for awhile, but just didn’t get it together yet, and was thinking Texas tea (oil) back then. They also don’t get that sometimes we hold out to see of something better will come of “change” but it didn’t.
Coffee beans? What significance does it have to our patriotism? They harp similar beliefs then when you go into their site, WaLLLAH! It’s Obama all over again. Extreme left wing big government.
Thanks Bea. We are, of course, aware of the histological context, but the left is not. They are less about substance, and far more about style and indoctrination.
Newsbusters reported yesterday that one MSM source said the coffee parties were about small government! CNN said they were a success! So, we’ll see how long they carry on that farce.
