I was home sick yesterday, so I got to see some of Fox’s daytime coverage. In the past hour Cavuto had some Tea Party folks on who condemned attacks on others, and then played some of the death threats that they have received. This is nothing new; the left has been doing this sort of thing for years. It has NEVER been fully covered by the MSM.
For my next thoughts, let me say that this is 100% conjecture on my part. With disclaimer done, I believe that these attacks on the Democrats could very well have been done by folks on their side. Here’s why I think that this might be a possiblity:
1. Democrats have done this in the past, many times. Many racial incidents have been faked. Rather than belabor the point endlessly, you can see links to several events here, here, here, and here. Please note that the last item appeared to be staged in order to pass a hate crimes bill. A simple search will find many more.
2. I’ve been warning of “false flag” operations ever since the Tea Parties started. For the best example of this, I submit this from Obama mentor and Chris Matthews’s favorite community organizer, Saul Alinsky.
“Alinsky himself employed this method, quite deviously. Alinsky biographer, Sanford D. Horwitt provides an anecdote using precisely this same diabolical tactic to deceive the people. From Horwitt’s Let Them Call Me Rebel:
“…in the spring of 1972, at Tulane University…students asked Alinsky to help plan a protest of a scheduled speech by George H. W. Bush, then U.S. representative to the United Nations – a speech likely to include a defense of the Nixon administration’s Vietnam War policies. The students told Alinsky they were thinking about picketing or disrupting Bush’s address. That’s the wrong approach, he rejoined, not very creative – and besides causing a disruption might get them thrown out of school. He told them, instead, to go to hear the speech dressed as members of the Ku Klux Klan, and whenever Bush said something in defense of the Vietnam War, they should cheer and wave placards reading, ‘The KKK supports Bush.’ And that is what they did, with very successful, attention-getting results.”
They’ve been doing it for years, as I said.
3. It goes along with the Democratic/leftist tradition of not debating, and instead, attacking/discrediting the opposition. Remember Alinsky’s Rules:
‘Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.’
– Saul Alinsky, Rules for Radicals.
4. There is a long history of liberals posting inflammatory information on Conservative websites. They even tried it on CSPAN. Ironically, there always seems to be a liberal website all too ready to “report” this “hateful” activity. Sounds much like what is happening now, doesn’t it?
5. Need I mention “Seminar Callers?”
6. The MSM has risen to cover these with great zeal. The coverage has been simultaneous and similar in tone. At the same time, they continue refuse to cover the threats that have been received by Tea Partiers and Republicans. Historically, they also refused to cover threats made against President Bush, or the signs of him being a nazi, or a chimp, or the joker. I guess it’s only wrong when it happens to the left.
7. As for publishing addresses, I did a post last year when gay group posted addresses, phone numbers, and employers of people that contributed to prop 8 in California. People were harassed, threatened, their employers or businesses were picketed, and many lost their jobs or lively hoods. MSM coverage of this? Zero.
8. As I’ve displayed here, the left may be simply following their tradition of accusing their opposition of doing what they themselves do.
So, what does this tell us? For me, it shows that the media double standard and bias is alive and well. Also, it shows that the left isn’t above falsifying an event or two to smear their opponents, or get some legislation passed.
As I said in the beginning of the post, this is conjecture. However, can we not use a group’s previous behavior to interpret their present behavior? Can this also not be done to predict their future behavior? Can we expect a movement that has previously acted deceitfully to suddenly be as innocent as a newborn?
That being said, this all could have been done by some fringe elements. It’s very possible. However, there is no evidence of that yet. Threatening phone calls can be traced. Fingerprints can be lifted from vandalized properties. Evidence will show us either way. As for the racial slurs, there is still only one video of the alleged event.

I believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.
I have a very uneasy feeling about all this in that I suspect this is going to escalate and somehow be used down the line for legislation making “hate speech” illegal (as in Canada) in order to stifle free speech and the Progressive critics.
That would match their overall pattern. I’m thinking Reichstag fire.
There are probably some fringe radicals in the Tea Party movment, I do not doubt that but I also would not be surprised if some of this were staged, I will put nothing past these people. They are willing to do whatever it takes to pass their agenda and the all too willing media will be right there to help them along. They know that the media is going to try to paint all Tea Partiers ase radical, violent racists so they just need to help that image along by faking some incidents and the media will run with it.
I agree. Kooks come to movements, there is no doubt about that. But at they same time, the left has done this so many times before. It’s right out of their playbook.

I just finished reading Rules for Radicals and I must say it was very informative. It helps me understand the liberal/progressive tactic. I do think there are fringe elements in every movement, but I also think the Democrats need the subject changed off this healthcare debacle quickly. No one is talking how bad the bill is, if everyone is talking about a few phone calls and some alleged slurs from the protest. Change the subject and move on!

Matt! This is such a great post. You have hit the nail on the head with all this. I thought to myself when
all this “news” of threats, bricks, etc. etc. started coming out that “the dems are doing it themselves, and
then blaming us for it”. You always have to be thinking how your enemy would do their dirty deeds,
to anticipate and head them off.
The MSM reports nothing when it happens to our side. I was shocked this AM when on Today Show they showed a clip of Beck’s show, where he was showing film of the real vandals & crazy protestors at that summit in PA. Beck said “why hasn’t the MSM reported this”. So at least America got a tiny glimpse of truth.
PS: I’ve always had a dark side (it’s just reveling itself more with all the horrid events lately)

I’m tired of hearing how this could hurt the Republicans. Ever since I can remember I thought of a Democrat as a loudmouth get the last word in bully. And I thought of a Republican as a more soft spoken tough guy that knew he was right and didn’t need to argue about it. My parents were not into politics so I didn’t pick this up from them. Just something that I noticed throughout my 40yrs here on earth.
Republicans have put up with this forever. Glenn Beck, Rush, Hannity, Ann Coulter, Levin, Sarah Palin, Scott Brown, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington etc. etc. They have all had to put up with threats. The difference is they expect it and are prepared for it, and don’t whine about it.
I’m sorry but a threatening voicemail or fax should not be that big of a deal. Now the bricks and bullets are a different story. We know there are wacko’s out there everywhere and what they are doing is absolutely wrong. As for the possibility that some of this is staged…well Matt gave perfect real world examples of this.
But even if they caught Stupak slashing his own tires and writing on his windows with shoe polish they wouldn’t make any big deal about it. Ummmm, I was just cleaning the windows and found this shoe polish right here in the yard. Oh, well then we better go find the Conservative crazy that did this.

There may have been some “hate speech” or somebody may have spat at someone. I suspect some vicious phone calls were made. The Propaganda machine of the “Furor” (intentionally mispelled)is coninuing his indoctrinating of the naiive. Nothing can get this heated without someone doing something. Obama counts on that and if it isn’t there do you think he will manufacture it? Of course he will. He is the very embodiment of evil. Thanks Matt.
