My head nearly exploded when I read about this. President Obama signed the Press Freedom Act. This act requires the State Department to give yearly reports on press freedom in its annual Human Rights Report. Then, he refused to take questions from the press. Chip Reid of CBS had his take on the event.
There was some rich irony at the White House today — President Obama signed the Press Freedom Act, and then promptly refused to take any questions.
The new law expands the State Department’s annual human rights reports to include a description of press freedoms in each country. It seemed a good opportunity to showcase press freedom in this country.
So, the POTUS signs a law about press freedom, and then REFUSES TO TAKE QUESTIONS?? Remember now, that Obama hasn’t given a press conference since last year. Also, the administration hasn’t let the media interview Elena Kagan, but they did give the MSM an interview that was done BY THE WHITE HOUSE.
It would seem that the MSM is starting to catch on to Obama. In the beginning, they were very useful idiots. They covered up his associations and lack of experience, helping him get elected. Then, once elected, they kept all the secrets. They covered up ACORN, Porkulus waste, Planned Parenthood, ClimateGate, ObamaCare’s nasty consequences, and more recently, dropping the ball on the Tennessee flooding and not taking action as required in the BP spill. They attacked the Tea Parties, and covered up for leftist violence. They were faithful to the “progressive” cause, doing all that they thought was needed, or asked.
Yet for all of that free help, they have been increasingly cut off from the administration. Press conferences disappeared. Gibbs is evasive and petulant. Whatever they get from the administration is pre-packed and tightly controlled. In the meantime, they have sacrificed ratings and credibility. Yet, for all of their effort-for all of their help, they are being made irrelevant. And as they collapse, Mark Lloyd waits in the wings with his scheme for a government controlled “uber-PBS.” I wonder if they think that a career in this proposed state controlled media will be rewarding, or will they be handed the latest from “dear leader” to recite? Do they think that there will be enough jobs in this new propaganda arm for all of them? Are they starting to realize what they helped create?
Time will tell.
These are the makings of tyranny. The control of information has been the tool of tyrants since the beginning of time. It also shows the fate of useful idiots. Once they cease being useful, they are discarded. While they won’t be killed, they will be marginalized, and then shut down, or allowed to die off. In the end, they’ll never see it coming, nor will they understand before it is too late.

I believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.
The irony here is astounding. I wonder if the press will finally just have enough with the way Obama treats them. They carried the water for him, if they had done their job properly, this man never would have become president. But I think that when Obama speaks off of the cuff he makes too many stupid mistakes– like his shout out before talking aabout Fort Hood– so now his handlers have him in protective mode, so he is not speaking to the press, while the White House makes their own videos and distributes them. How long will the media put up with this? I think they are tiring of it, I am waiting for the backlash.
I hope there is a backlash, but I doubt it. Most of the MSM outlets are in pretty bad shape, and could not withstand an “attack” like the administration launched on FOX.
I don’t think the liberal media will ever change their ways. They have blinders on and can’t see the forest for the trees. The Obama Administration is very troubling and prayerfully, all conservative Americans who stand for liberty will get out to vote in 2010 and 2012 so that we can get this administration out of there.
I hope so too Jackie. I do want the MSM to whine about this. They’ll still be leftists, but it would be fun to watch.
As has been said before, Obama just aint that into the press. Unrequited love is so sad.
It’s an analogy to an abusive relationship. He keeps slapping them, and they stay in love. They should stand up for themselves, and leave, but they don’t appear to be doing so.
Oh, but there’ll be a vid on his whitehouse.gov channel that will tell all about it. Who needs to answer questions from the real press (one that’s increasingly peeved at this dude) when you can make up your own questions to go along with your made up answers.
It’s sad that we’ve come to this. We went from “Slick Willie,” who was one of the best liars ever, to Bush, who would stammer his way through a fast food order. At least Bush went out and stammered through.

This is so important. I do feel that many in our government secret want major media outlets to fail, so they can control them. What happened to Lou Dobbs would be nothing compared to what would be possible from state controlled media. If the MSN do not wake up we will have Baghdad Bob in America soon.
