It seems that the good guys, scored a victory.  Pamela Geller has announced that PayPal has come to it’s senses and ended it’s prohibition against Atlas Shrugs and two other sites owned by Geller.

Geller explained: “The decision that Atlas Shrugs, SIOA, and FDI constitute ‘hate sites’ was an example of the ongoing attempt by Leftists and Islamic supremacist groups like the Hamas-linked hate group the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to rule their political opposition outside the bounds of acceptable and reasonable political discourse.”

She added: “The goal behind accusations of ‘hatred’ and ‘bigotry’ leveled against groups like SIOA and FDI, which are dedicated to defending human rights and American Constitutional values, is to silence them so that Islamic supremacists can have free rein to restrict the rights of Americans without opposition. PayPal’s capitulation to this smear campaign was an ominous sign.”

But on Monday, a PayPal representative contacted Geller to inform her that Atlas Shrugs, SIOA and FDI had been mistakenly designated “hate sites,” and that the designations would be removed. The reversal follows an avalanche of critical emails PayPal received from followers of the enormously popular Atlas Shrugs blog.

Well done all, though I can’t help but think that they reversed this before FOX and talk radio picked it up.

Keep up the good work, Ms. Geller.

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

This is great news! Glad to hear that Paypal reversed itself, we will have to stay on the lookout because this is just the beginning.

It requires constant vigilance, I hear.,

  • MK June 15, 2010 at 7:33 am

Perhaps it was just a mistake on paypal’s part, good news either way.

It is possible. But three of her sites were hit at once, and the jihadis hate her.

  • MK June 15, 2010 at 7:33 am

Almost forgot to add, the islamists and the leftists will be very angry at this news. I love it when that happens.

Yeah, that does make me lol.

    • LD Jackson June 16, 2010 at 6:38 am

Good point, MK. They will be very upset, but as the old saying goes, they will just have to get over it. I am glad PayPal came to their senses.

  • KristinMishmash June 15, 2010 at 7:54 am

Good deal. I was wondering how I’d pay for my Ebay purchases without PayPal.

Same here. I was waiting to kill my account. I had used PayPal to pay for my hosting just before I saw the original story. I was waiting for the payment to clear. I didn’t want to risk losing my domain and site until I knew the payment went through.

  • Maggie M. Thornton June 15, 2010 at 11:31 am

This is great news. I wish I could feel cozier about PayPal, though. When things like this happen, they are hard to forget. I’m still going to check out GPal. Snarky says they are “2nd amendment” friendly.

PayPal picked on the wrong blogger.

Yeah, I plan on checking it out too.

  • Karen Howes June 15, 2010 at 1:09 pm

    I figure either it was

    a) a case of a rep making $9 an hour who sent out the automated letter in response to some leftard or Muzzie’s complaint and that person is not in deep doo-doo, or

    b) PayPal underestimated the power of the conservative blogosphere and decided they really didn’t want a lot of bad publicity.

    Either way, great news!

True Karen. We’ll never know which it was, or was it even something else? But at this point, I’ll take a win where I can get it.

  • KingShamus June 15, 2010 at 2:34 pm

It feels good when the Right gets a win.

Even a small victory is rad.

      Matt June 15, 2010 at 8:47 pm

That it is. About 13,000,000 more small victories like this, and the country will be in pretty good shape.

  • Infidel de Manahatta June 15, 2010 at 2:49 pm

PayPal? Isn’t that what Barney Frank uses?

If I’m remembering correctly, that’s what he offered out of his house.

I appears that we did not Angel. I hope your vacation went well.

Power perceived is power achieved. We changed their perception my friend.

I agree, though it might be along the lines of, “let them hate, as long as they fear.”

  • Teresa June 15, 2010 at 8:29 pm

This is great news! Free speech rules! Its always a good day when you piss off the Muslim community.

    • Matt
      Matt June 15, 2010 at 10:54 pm

Especially when one of the sites puts ads on buses to support people leaving Islam. They really hate that.

Actually, that’s not funny. They kill people that convert.

  • Snarky Basterd June 15, 2010 at 11:43 pm

They didn’t graciously decide to back off from calling her a “hate site.” They received tremendous backlash from us. And furthermore it didn’t necessarily have anything to do with the “enormously popular Atlas Shrugs blog.” It had to do with bad business by a bad company that needed to learn a lesson. Atlas was just the vibration that started the avalanche.

And I hope they have suffered, and continue to suffer; I’m not going back. I hope they lost a good 10 percent of their business, because anyone who would continue to work with them is a fool waiting to be the next “mislabeled” hate site.

I hadn’t thought of that label Snarky. I really have to look at that Gpal that you were mentioning.
