The USA Today had a story confirming the fact the doctors are turning away Medicare patients in record numbers. Here are some details from Richard Wolf.
• The American Academy of Family Physicians says 13% of respondents didn’t participate in Medicare last year, up from 8% in 2008 and 6% in 2004.
• The American Osteopathic Association says 15% of its members don’t participate in Medicare and 19% don’t accept new Medicare patients. If the cut is not reversed, it says, the numbers will double.
• The American Medical Association says 17% of more than 9,000 doctors surveyed restrict the number of Medicare patients in their practice. Among primary care physicians, the rate is 31%.
So, just as we have said, not all people are going to be keeping their doctors under ObamaCare.
However, there is a possible ulterior motive here. I would imagine, waiting in the wings somewhere, is a Dem Congressman lurking. And in his or her hands is a bill or amendment that will install the “Doctor Fix” into ObamaCare. If you remember, the doctor fix was meant to restore the cuts to Medicare that ObamaCare created (I know, another lie about not “gutting” Medicare). It didn’t get into the final bill.
Here’s the part of the article that really caught my attention…
WASHINGTON — The number of doctors refusing new Medicare patients because of low government payment rates is setting a new high, just six months before millions of Baby Boomers begin enrolling in the government health care program. (Emphasis mine)
Now, the boomers, as a group, are among the most spoiled and petulant generations that have ever walked the Earth (I know, not all of you are, but a significant percentage are the folks that gave us most of our current problems). When THEY can’t see their Doctor, or THEY get turned down for services, THEY are going to raise hell. You can take that to the bank. I just don’t see them quietly taking the “pain pill.”
This, of course, will create a “crisis.” And, as we all know, crises cannot be wasted. So, I would guess that at some point before the GOP takes over, the Doctor Fix will be in.
But wait, there’s more! Leaving the Doctor Fix out is what allowed ObamaCare to meet its already shaky CBO savings targets. Remember, it’s supposed to be deficit neutral. So, when they add the thing in, the costs of ObamaCare will skyrocket. Then, when you considered that the government took these savings out twice, the situation becomes even more unsustainable.
I think we’re looking at the reality that the Democrats never meant ObamaCare to be deficit neutral. They left issues like this so people would raise a protest about them, then, they can justify doing what they really wanted to so in the first place. Causing a crisis will do that for you.
Elections have consequences. Kindly remember that in November.
