As I’ve stated in comments here and there, I didn’t post the now infamous Shirley Sherrod video from Breitbart.  I saw it the evening of the same day it was released.  However, I could sense that she was working towards another point, and then the video ended.  Frankly, I simply didn’t trust the edit.  In the end, my hunch was correct.  (Several other bloggers that regularly comment here came to the same conclusion as well)

While I didn’t post the video, I did pay attention to the story.  I was interested in seeing where it went.  There has been no shortage of drama, with accusations and nonsense flying.   Here are some of my thoughts on the situation, and where it stands now.

First, I think Breitbart needs to investigate the source of that video, as it strikes me that he was set up.  I say this because during the 90’s, the Clintons engaged in disinfo efforts against talk radio hosts.  They would “leak” false information in the hopes that the radio hosts would carry it.  If they took the bait, the administration would expose it.  While there is no evidence of this at the current time, it does seem to be eerily familiar.  I don’t think I need to remind folks that there are a ton of former Clinton operatives in the Obama administration, or in allied organizations.

Then, of course, the left went into attack mode.  It was expected that Breitbart would be attacked- he released the video.  However, the attack also spilled over onto FOX, who didn’t even cover the story until that evening, well AFTER Sherrod had been fired.  Glen Beck (during his late showing), in fact, even sided with Sherrod, as the Government did not investigate the situation a bit, and the NAACP condemned her with out viewing the whole video, WHICH THEY ACTUALLY HAD IN THEIR POSSESSION!

If this proves anything, it does show that the administration is scared to death of the alternative media.  We barely had time to react ourselves before they axed her.  Just remember that when they talk about regulating the Internet.

Then, something strange happened.  The Sunday News shows skipped it.  FOX had Howard Dean on, while he accused them of racism.  But with all the other Sunday Shows, the MSM declined to talk to Sherrod.  Under normal circumstances, this is a story that the left and the MSM would beat to death.  We’d hear about it until our ears bled….  but we didn’t.  That led me to ask, “why?”

Here’s why I think that happened.  Mrs. Sherrod’s husband, Charles, has some interesting ideas of his own.  Here are the videos, courtesy of Riehl World View.

I know. It’s a short video.  But, I think the context is quite clear.  Just in case you doubt that, here is the long version.

If the MSM stayed on this story, the greater chance that more people would see the other videos.  While the story was great to zing Breitbart and to advocate government control of bloggers, it ran the risk of backfiring once the more radical nature of the Sherrod’s beliefs became clear. While the MSM still tries to pin the whole racism tag on the right, there are effective voices out there, like Ann Coulter.  I saw this over at Maggie’s Notebook last evening.

While it isn’t completely related to my line of thinking.  It is hilarious.

There you have it.  There’s my take on the situation.  Feel free to comment and tell me if I’m wrong on this.

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

Hi Matt, you are 100% correct.
Otherwise we would have been seeing shirley all over the place
until our ears & eyes bled.
Obummer put the word out, and now they want to hide her.
I wouldn’t be surprised she doesn’t take the “new job” and
sues the gov’t….but barry & co. secretly pay her to retire!

Who knows what wheeling and dealing is going on? It’s hard to tell, if any. I think they just wan the story off the front page, lest anyone take a peek behind the curtain.

We’ve seen a few examples now of Barack Obama whinning about the alternative media– remember when he said Americans have too much information– and I think he is setting us up for Net Neutrality or some other form of internet regulation. I think Breitbart was set up, but I think it goes beyond just trying t oembarrass him, I think they are trying to get the American people to come around to the idea of internment regulation.

I would agree with that assessment, but they’re going to need a Reichstag fire to do all that they want.

  • KingShamus July 27, 2010 at 11:31 am

It’s pretty clear to me that Shirley Sherrod and her husband are really not nice people. Dare I say it…racist.

      If you point out racism…you’re a racist…racist!

She was thrown under the bus and probably knew about it ahead of time. Don’t know what is real and what is fabricated anymore.

It gets harder to tell every day. That is the intent, by the way. Confusion is a great weapon.

As long as it fits the narrative, yes. However, your last post here has doomed the Lutherans.

I smelled something funny on that tape, too. Sherrod, while she shouldn’t have been fired, is no angel. I am still wondering why the NAACP condemned her so fast and why Obama fired her so fast. Breitbart maybe made a foolish move however it shows for all of their posturing Liberals are just fraidy cats when it comes to the truth.

  • innominatus July 27, 2010 at 4:39 pm

I still haven’t seen adequate explanation of Sherrod’s involvement in some lawsuits and how that may have affected her original job offer. It’s hard to tell just who’s the biggest piece o’ crap in this stinkpile.

However, if I had access to important democrats I’d have a lot of fun telling them “Better be careful… Breitbart’s been recording you” and then watching puddles forming on the floor around their feet.

That would be hilarious. I half expect that they will one day ban hand held video cameras as an invasion of privacy, or something like that.

Harrison, they seem to poop a brick when the blogosphere or FOX thinks about mentioning something.

  • LD Jackson July 27, 2010 at 9:36 pm

This entire scenario has been a mixed up bag of tricks since the beginning. That is one reason why I also refrained from posting the video on Political Realities. I did watch the video and it does seem to me that some of the remarks Sherrod made during that speech were clearly racist. Yes, I know she says she was making a point, but they were still racist. I felt she had a very condescending attitude towards whites and their kind. (Her words, not mine.) I am not at all convinced she is entirely innocent in all of this.

I think in her subsequent comments, she strikes me as being more of a class warfare, Marxist, type of radical. Her husband seems to have a bit of that as well.

        Actually, more than a bit.

  • John Carey July 27, 2010 at 9:51 pm

I think you’re spot-on with your analysis. It was strange how the story just evaporated. They had the right in their sites and could have got tons of mileage out of it. We live in strange days my friend.

That we do, John. It’s just my conjecture, of course, but they have done similar stuff in the past.

I saw that Coulter video and also the one of howard dean.

I gotta tell you folks, i never get tired of watching leftists when they’re exposed to some facts. Absolutely hilarious, the squirming, the weasling, side-stepping, simply priceless.

    Facts are their kryptonite.

    032610 black farmers blame obama
    042310 pigford pelosi statement
I also think this black farmer settlement (still unpaid as Jesse Jackson complained to Mike Wallace on Sunday) will somehow come to the fore of the alvin greene campaign in Manning,SC where in one of first interviews there was mention of house being on land father once farmed? Yes, there is work to be done…carrot and stick. This is the O’s mo.
