Conservative Hideout 2.0

This should go under the category; “just when you thought it couldn’t get worse for Obama.”

According to the Congressional Budget Office, all eight years of the Iraq war created a very big bill.  However, it was dwarfed by the Porkulus.  You know, that almost-trillion dollar bailout for liberal allies, with some make work programs sprinkled in, like turtle tunnels.  For the wrap-up of Porkulus vs. Iraq war, check this out from FOX.

As President Obama prepares to tie a bow on U.S. combat operations in Iraq, Congressional Budget Office numbers show that the total cost of the eight-year war was less than the stimulus bill passed by the Democratic-led Congress in 2009.

According to CBO numbers in its Budget and Economic Outlook published this month, the cost of Operation Iraqi Freedom was $709 billion for military and related activities, including training of Iraqi forces and diplomatic operations.

The projected cost of the stimulus, which passed in February 2009, and is expected to have a shelf life of two years, was $862 billion.

The U.S. deficit for fiscal year 2010 is expected to be $1.3 trillion, according to CBO. That compares to a 2007 deficit of $160.7 billion and a 2008 deficit of $458.6 billion, according to data provided by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

Remember all of the Democratic complaints about the war spending?

Remember all of the Democratic complaints about Bush’s spending?

Look at the chart.  In this case, a chart is worth a thousand words.  In Iraq, we won, though I doubt Obama will ever use that terminology.  It would be a damnation of his previous positions.  But what of the Porkulus?  We’ve chronicled here that the money went to Democratic districts, to Democratic allied organizations, to places that do not exist,  and that the “jobs saved or created” were often falsified.  We were promised unemployment below 8%, and it’s been over 9% for most of Obama’s presidency.

So there we are.  The Democrats complained about Bush’s spending, and it was way too high,  But note what happened after Obama took office.  They took Bush’s worst year, and they tripled it!  They spent more with one piece of legislation, than all eight years of the war, and the Summer of Recovery© is making all of us prosperous…right?

Yeah, that’s what I thought.

About Matt

I believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

How many times have we seen the advertisements, showing us how much the war was costing, showing us how many children could be fed, if only we were not in Iraq? Showing us how much money President Bush was spending? Now, as it turns out and as you have so aptly shown, the deficit is much, much worse than during the Bush Presidency. This is all because of the spending habits of a liberal, Democratic Congress and of President Obama. The only thing that remains to be seen is how long it will be before they find a way to blame it on Bush.

Even under Bush, the deficits were bad enough, but the worst were after Pelosi and Reid took over the Congress.

Then, the triple Bush’s worst deficit in one year, and accomplish nothing in the process.

Now that Barack Obama is the one spending the money I guess it is okay with the left. Remember Joe Biden said that had to spend money in order to not go bankrupt.
While they bemoan the cost of almost a decade of war and the defecits it created, we have a man in office who has spent more and created higher defecits in one year, yet they will never mention this. The double standard is amazing!

The double standard is amazing, but expected. Reality is not part of the narrative. After all, every negative event is Bush’s fault anyway, right?

That is a terrific chart. It really drives home the sheer scale of the spending binge that the Dem’s (and to a lesser degree the R’s) have been on the last eight years.

Very true Steve. Now if we can just keep the GOP from spending like drunken sailors again.

I wonder. At what point does the phrase “unsupportable debt” start to have any meaning in Washington?

It’s shame the British couldn’t have done a more thorough job of burning the capitol in 1814.

      As for your question? Never.

If it burnt down again, it would take the Dems 30 years and 3 trillion to do it. Union contracts, graft, bribes, payouts to special interests and all.

He has to be the happiest guy in the country. When he’s not going to communist countries to appease their dictators.

We should do a study on which created more jobs… the Porkulus or the war?

Since Obama’s ineffectual debt binge created neg -2M jobs, shouldn’t be hard to top eh

Probably just the ammunition orders beat the porkulus.

Great post Matt! The chart really tells the tale doesn’t it. And they thought Bush was out of control.
