Well, our would-be overlords just keep on plugging away at the whole AGW chicken little dance. You know, the one where we have to submit to cradle to grave control of some level of government, never to breathe free again? Well, those would-be overlords are having another confab this year, in Cancun. Stockholm was a bust, with the unseasonably excessive cold and snow…you know, because of the warming and all?
Yes, I’m going to lay on the snark extra thick today. This level of failure, and the the persistence with which it’s adherents are pursuing it, is ridiculous, and is worthy of as much scorn as I can heap upon these electronic pages So, I fully intend on firing with both barrels…until they melt.
Anyway, today’s focus is on some of the asinine suggestions put forth at the Cancun Conspiracy Confab. Let’s take a look at this, from the Telegraph….
In a series of papers published by the Royal Society, physicists and chemists from some of world’s most respected scientific institutions, including Oxford University and the Met Office, agreed that current plans to tackle global warming are not enough.
Unless emissions are reduced dramatically in the next ten years the world is set to see temperatures rise by more than 4C (7.2F) by as early as the 2060s, causing floods, droughts and mass migration.
Alrighty then. For those of you old enough to remember, or have researched this, we were supposed to be buried under glaciers by 1980. All you would have had to do was listen to one of the “climate experts” back on the late 60’s – early 70’s. But, that didn’t happen, so they changed gears and went to warming. You know, sometime about now, we’d all be treading water…right?
Oops! Not so much. At least now, they’re making their predictions so far out that most of us reading it now will be dead by then, and there won’t be anyone living with the knowledge that they were full of sh*t yet again.
In one paper Professor Kevin Anderson, Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, said the only way to reduce global emissions enough, while allowing the poor nations to continue to grow, is to halt economic growth in the rich world over the next twenty years.
This would mean a drastic change in lifestyles for many people in countries like Britain as everyone will have to buy less ‘carbon intensive’ goods and services such as long haul flights and fuel hungry cars.
Prof Anderson admitted it “would not be easy” to persuade people to reduce their consumption of goods
He said politicians should consider a rationing system similar to the one introduced during the last “time of crisis” in the 1930s and 40s.
OK then. I can’t speak to the situation in the UK, but in the US, there was a huge black market during WW II. We aren’t proud of it, and we don’t discuss it much, but if you knew the right people, or were willing to pay a little more, you could get pretty much anything you wanted.
Now, someone might say that with all of out technology, we’d be able to control the fraud or any mismanagement. To respond let me say, just like Medicare? You know, $100,000,000,000 a year that goes right down the old memory hole, and after 40 + years, no one can stop it? If you believe that the government can manage something without massive waste and fraud, I have some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you!
Just as another example, NY has the highest cigarette taxes in all the land. However, it turns out that about 50% (surprisingly, they can’t tell exactly-apparently they aren’t able to track it all) of all cigarettes sold in NY are untaxed. Since the price is so high, the mafia is making a killing selling them for less. Imagine if the mafia would be able to see LOTS of things for less. Gotta be honest, I don’t want to have to visit “Vito the Enforcer,” or, “Sonny the Icepick” to buy a freakin coffee maker. Just saying. But, that’s what will happen if anyone is stupid enough to adopt such an brain dead strategy. We might as well call it the “Mafia Bailout.”
This could mean a limit on electricity so people are forced to turn the heating down, turn off the lights and replace old electrical goods like huge fridges with more efficient models. Food that has traveled from abroad may be limited and goods that require a lot of energy to manufacture.
“I am not saying we have to go back to living in caves,” he said. “Our emissions were a lot less ten years ago and we got by ok then.”
OK then, they are telling us that, “it’ll just be some minor adjustments…nothing to see here, just keep moving.” However, let’s invoke ObamaCare, and how the left justified that. You remember that we are going to keep our plans if we liked them? That is, until tens of thousands (so far) lost their plans. And then, we were told that we could keep our doctors…until, that is, people started to lose their doctors. And aren’t we all comforted that costs will go down? Of course, the glow dimmed almost immediately when costs went up. Either they knew and they lied about it, or they were hopelessly naive about what would actually happen. The result was the same. This happens with every liberal plan. There is no way on Earth that any top-down controlled government control mechanism can function as advertised. NO WAY WHATSOEVER!
For a real look at what will really happen, I think we ought to consult Canada’s Al Gore, Maurice Strong.
“It is clear that current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class — involving high meat intake, consumption of large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work-place air-conditioning, and suburban housing — are not sustainable. A shift is necessary toward lifestyles less geared to environmentally damaging consumption patterns.” –Maurice Strong
That, my friends, is where it would go, and probably farther. While this has not been adopted in any way. We do have to keep an eye on these folks, and expose their failure whenever it presents itself. As always, daylight is the best disinfectant.
