Every month, the economic numbers, and particularly unemployment, don’t perform to the governments expectations, and the media feigns confusion and surprise in reporting it.  As 2010 wore on, the term unexpected became a massive joke, to the point that the MSM stopped using it.  Mind you, the numbers were still “unexpected,”  but it’s kinda hard to carry water for a  rapidly failing regime when their policies have so many “unexpected” results.  So, the term, “unexpected” went away for a while.  Until recently, that is. I caught this Reuters story on Yahoo, via Hot Air.  The following are some excerpts.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. employment barely grew in November and the jobless rate unexpectedly hit a seven-month high, hardening views the Federal Reserve would stick to its $600 billion plan to shore up the anemic recovery.

Nonfarm payrolls rose 39,000, with private hiring gaining only 50,000, just a third of what economists had expected, a Labor Departmentreport showed on Friday. The unemployment rate jumped to 9.8 percent from 9.6 percent in October.

“Some of the areas of weakness were a bit surprising,” said Zach Pandl, a U.S. economist at Nomura Securities International in New York. “Manufacturing and retail sales seem to contradict other available evidence, and the services ISM is outpacing the growth we saw in services employment during the month.”

One of the big surprises in November was the loss of 28,100 retail jobs despite signs of a busy holiday shopping season.

I would encourage you to  hit the link and read the article.  The format seems simple; they report the official figures, they they try to refute it.  Now, they’d likely say that they’re trying to achieve some balance, but I get the sense that it is, once again, an attempt to cover up for a failed administration.

Then again, when does the “unexpected” become the expected?

MattI believe that future generations should have the same opportunities that myself, and those that came before me, had. My parents taught me that I could do anything I wanted to do. I don’t want to have to tell my daughter, “You can do whatever the government tells you to do.” We are at a crossroads in this country; are we going to be free, or are we going to be slaves to the nanny state. I choose freedom.

I agree. With Congress dithering on taxes, more taxes rising in January, healthcare raising everyone’s rates, and quantitative easing taking effect not to mention the huge debts we have, it makes SENSE. It’s only unexpected if you have your head up your -.

And apparently, there are quite a few people in the media and government that have their heads up you know where, but I repeat myself.

      That’s about it, isn’t it?

I actually get a kick out of listening to all of the predictions and then seeing how far off they are from the actual report. You can easily tell these people do not live in the real economy. Otherwise, they could see what is happening right before their eyes.

During the 2008 campaign, Mike Huckabee tried to point out that this real economy, the one with the baggage handlers, cab drivers, waitresses, etc. wasn’t doing so well. So it is now, I am afraid. The Obama administration can shine all the good light on it they want, but the truth is, the economy is still in the tank.

I enjoy it too. And since the stats come out every month, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. It’s just as fun as them trying to hide the progress when a Republican is in charge.

It’s hardly “unexpected” that leftist economic policies fail.

In my era the refrain was that “it sounds like a broken record”. According to Dale Franks at Questions and Observations, employment has fallen by 567,000 since April. We need to create about 122,000 jobs per month just to keep-up with population growth. It was a great summer, fall and winter of recovery, wasn’t it?

What really made me laugh about the “Summer of Recovery” is that they kept that narrative up in the face of more, “unexpected” numbers.

All bad news will be UNexpected, a complete shock, out of left field, who would have thought that, oh my where did that come from, until president obongo is finally booted out of office.

If the left had any integrity, they’d hang their heads in shame knowing that their boy cannot even make anything work, even with so many helping his dumbass.

Well, since the left has no integrity whatsoever, we won’t be seeing any corrections from left.

  • Teresa December 4, 2010 at 10:42 pm

There is nothing like journalists having their heads in the sand. There goes journalistic integrity – not suprising at all. Journalists in the MSM ought to change their names to the coverups.

I happened to watch CBS News the day they reported this.

The guy comes on for CBS and says the economists were baffled.

    What economists? Imaginary economists.

Every economist on the planet has to know that the Business sector is NOT hiring because we have the most anti business adminstration in the history of this nation.

No one is baffled except OBAMABOTS who just cant grasp the concept that the progressive agenda is designed to fail. Not succeed.

You nailed it. However, there are those among he ObamaBots that know that an economic recovery is not in the plan. They have no desire for one.
