Over the last two-plus years, I’ve been writing about socialized medicine, and why we should avoid it like the plague. Here are some more reasons from Sweden…
A man from Nyköping in eastern Sweden has been denied a power wheelchair despite having had both of his legs amputated as the local health authority remained “uncertain if the impairment was permanent”.
Now, I’ve never been to Sweden, but to my knowledge, Swedes are just like the rest of us in that they do not regenerate limbs!
The man had his legs amputated after a long struggle with diabetes, but despite being unable get about, his application for a power wheelchair has been denied.
“I was bitterly disappointed in the local authorities. I don’t feel I got the support I deserve,” Evert Stefansson told The Local.
Er, sorry to inform you sir, but when you let the state “take care” of you, THEY get to decide what you deserve, if anything. When one gives control of their own bodies over to the state, they lose all choice over the care they receive.
But, that’s not the end. It seems that it’s not a great idea to need emergency care in Sweden…
In the Swedish media there has been one report after another of people not getting any healthcare at all. In fact, they do not even get an ambulance.
Let me give you one example:
“Help me,” 23-year-old Emil Linnell can be heard saying repeatedly in recordings of his January 30th call to SOS Alarm, Sweden’s emergency response service…
The transcript of the communication between the nurse and the man shows that he pleaded ‘help me’ repeatedly on the phone to SOS Alarm but was ignored.
According to the transcript the nurse said he couldn’t really understand what Linnell’s problem was. He said that Linnell was ‘running about the flat’ with no ‘apparent problem breathing or speaking’.
But Linnell persisted in saying he couldn’t breathe.
“I know, but I have been sitting here listening to you. You are breathing fine now,“ the nurse answered.
“No, I am fainting! I’m fainting,” he said.
“Take a deep breath now,” the nurse urged.
“I can’t! Please help me! Please! Help me,“ pleaded Linnell.
A little later he said, “I can’t breathe” again.
“You are breathing fine. I promise you,” the nurse then answered him.
The call then finished with a wheezing noise followed by a crash. Two hours later a neighbour found Linnell dead by the open door.
No ambulance was ever sent, and it was later determined Linnell died from a ruptured spleen.
He was an individual, and when something is socialized, individuals don’t matter. Too bad for him, but as long as the system remains, and the people in charge of it maintain their power…

But, it’ll be completely different here, right?

Clearly, missing two limbs is a permanent disability.
What bureaucrats made the inane decision that such a condition isn’t permanent?
