Conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart is dead at 43 UPDATED

It is with great sadness that I must report of the untimely demise of Andrew Breitbart. A powerful internet and media activist who tirelessly upheld Conservative values, ideals and principles, Breitbart’s most memorable moment was arguably when he gave an impromptu press conference on the podium and microphone that then Congressman Anthony Weiner had set up, but had not yet used.

Breitbart was also one of the co-founders of the Huffington Post, which occurred before his switch from liberal to conservative. Here, he details his transformation from being a “default cultural lib” to staunch Conservatism.

His websites reported and confirmed his death:

The websites he founded ran a statement Thursday morning announcing that Breitbart, 43, died “unexpectedly from natural causes” in Los Angeles shortly after midnight. His attorney and editor-in-chief of those sites confirmed his death to Fox News.

“We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior,” the statement said. “Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love.”

Fuzzy Logic

  • He will be missed… as well as what he would have accomplished.

    • Don

      I agree, Harrison.

  • What a loss. 43 is much too young to leave us.

And of course the tolerant liberal media is in full display, smearing the man today when his body isn’t even cold yet.

Why do liberals insist on calling conservatives “controversial”? It’s because we believe in freedom. And freedom has always been controversial.

    • Don

Freedom was the original radical belief, one which our Founding Fathers built our country around.

  • I’ve seen some of his work and he was a good Conservative from what i saw, terrible news. My thoughts and prayers to his family. May he rest in peace now.

    • Don

He had a long journey on his way to Conservatism and his work drove the left crazy.

  • I’ve been crying all day, and so saddened by the loss to his family, and to the country.

As to the liberals enjoying this, I say, GO TO TOWN!!!

Breitbart would have revelled in it!

    • Don

You are so right, he seemed to almost be happiest when he was confronting leftists, whether on MSNBC, the occupiers, or during the run up to the 2010 mid-terms.

  • A very sad day for America. Andrew was not only a man of words but also a man of action, he will be missed.

    • Don

Very true, his actions, along with O’Keefe’s helped to bring ACORN down.

  • Thanks to Don for posting this, as I just got home (11:00 PM EST). It was a fitting post.

As I reflect on Breitbart, I remember the first time I linked him, regarding paid trolls in the 2008 campaign. At that time, other people in the media were suggesting that he would make a mark-and that he did. I never had the honor of knowing him, but his work impacted the content here, and probably countless other sites. His tenacious nature, and refusal to back down helped bring down the corrupt ACORN, and became a must stop in any Conservative’s travels through the interwebs.

God speed Andrew. You will be missed, and we’ll pick up your torch.

    • Don

Thanks Matt, but I wish that I hadn’t had to report this. As I told you privately, it is his wife and children that I hurt for.

His transformation from default cultural lib (his words) to strong, conservative advocate helped to set the bar high for internet activists like ourselves. We could hope to have only a fraction of the success he enjoyed.

  • Don, this is a big loss for us and I hope that his memory will be kept alive by other brilliant writers and bloggers who will carry the torch. Thank you for your part in the struggle.

    • Don

Lorna, much like Mr. Breitbart, you have been an inspiration to me. From the first time that I pestered you with email questions about your success with your blog you treated me with respect and taught me that we have to keep pointing out the flaws of the leftist ideology.

  • Thanks for the link Matt, I am still shocked and saddened today.

  • Thank you for including my post, Don. May Andrew’s light shine eternally in the hearts of warriors everywhere.

  • Matt,
    Thank you for linking.

I didn’t learn of Breitbart’s death until I got home from work yesterday. I rushed to get up a post. His passing must be acknowledged — and grieved.
