A black man is charged with murder in the case of the death of a 4 year old child. Racial violence again rears it’s ugly head.
The family of a 4-year-old girl who died after being found unresponsive is seeking justice.
Layla Malone was hospitalized after she was found unresponsive at a home in the 5300 block of Caleb Drive on November 6.
She was pronounced dead at Nationwide Children’s Hospital at 5:25 p.m. Thursday.
28, was arrested and charged with felonious assault, and appeared in court Friday.
Malone’s relatives said McDaniel, who is the live-in boyfriend of Malone’s mother and was supposed to care for the girl, should now be charged with murder.
“She was the sweetest little thing. A light in a family, happy, that light is gone now. It’s just gone. It will affect this family for the rest of our lives,” said Richard Miller, Malone’s great uncle.
Miller said he is distraught and disgusted that the 4-year-old died the way she did.
“I don’t know if he hit her or picked her up and slammed her on the wall,” he said.
Miller said that Malone was home alone with McDaniel Wednesday while her mother worked.
Columbus police Officer Ron Jacobs detailed the allegations in court, saying that Malone sustained, “Multiple skull fractures, retinal hemorrhaging, and multiple bruises about her body.”
If the races of the victims had been reversed, this story might have gotten full coverage, as well as a boost by the racism industry. Sadly, the racism industry stokes crimes such as these. Racial violence will continue until there is an honest discussion of race in this country. But as long as so many of our fellow citizens sacrifice their freedom at the alter of the party of Jim Crow and the KKK, that party will divide us among racial lines.
