Liberty Deserves Better From Me: John Carey made a rather strong point.

Note that this post was originally published in 1-9-13

On this day in 1776 Thomas Paine published his pamphlet “Common Sense.”  This 47-page pamphlet made the arguments in favor of American independence.  Mr. Paine’s use of plain language spoke to the common people of America. It was also the first published pamphlet that openly argued for independence.  The powerful words of Mr. Paine helped galvanize a movement that before Common Sense was published was a scattered grumbling at best.

Paine fundamentally changed the tenor of colonists’ argument with the crown when he wrote the following:  “Europe, and not England, is the parent country of America.  This new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe.  Hither they have fled, not from the tender embraces of the mother, but from the cruelty of the monster; and it is so far true of England, that the same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home, pursues their descendants still.”

The power of words.  We must remember this when writing our articles.  The power of words can unite or divide.  They can turn a mob into a movement.  They can restore a republic.  In the next four years we’re going to face some serious challenges as a nation.  We going to see our constitution ignored.  We’re going to see more liberties stripped away from us.  And we’re going to see our beloved America begin to unravel.  The power of words can turn this around.  Think about the letter that former U.S. Marine Joshua Boston wrote to Senator Feinstein and the power of his words.

Senator Dianne Feinstein,

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.

I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

The words in this letter went viral because it resonated with people.  It not only challenged her perceived authority on this matter, but it highlighted her arrogance.  It reminded people who we were as a people.  This is the power of words and how it can change the narrative.  This letter put Senator Feinstein on the defense and made her look smaller in the eyes of many.  Each day we write and publish articles that cover a wide variety of topics.  We do our best with each topic, but do our words really resonate with the people?  Are they powerful and factually sound?  I believe in the power of words.  I believe that each of us are using words each day to try to save the republic.  We must be make sure our efforts are meaningful and our words resonate with the people.  We must like Thomas Paine use the power of words to ignite a movement to restore the republic.

To the executives at A&E Network;

Something is seriously wrong in America when you can no longer voice an opinion based on your religious values without fear of some sort of reprisal. I am a Christian and like Phil Robertson, I believe the act of homosexuality is a sin. I don’t judge the sin, that’s not for me. Judgment is left to God as Mr. Robertson stated in his interview. Does this make me extreme or wrong? Only in a Godless society I am viewed as extreme and wrong and that’s what we are rapidly becoming; a Godless society where what was once good is now bad and what was once right is now wrong. This is a society that cannot last long because it anchors its core beliefs to the laws of men and rejects the laws of God. It’s an unnatural existence that will eventually unravel and descend into chaos.

Phil Robertson is a man who clearly sees this. He’s sees us slipping away from God. He sees us normalizing and accepting sinful ways for the sake of inclusiveness and political correctness. He is God fearing man living in a society that rejects God’s laws and because of this he is chastised for his beliefs. By suspending him, your network is pandering to these forces who seek to destroy those who choose to abide by God’s laws. Your network has made a choice to persecute a man who stands with God. So I’m returning the favor and I’m choosing not to support your network anymore. I will not devote one more minute of my time towards your programming. I stand by Phil Robertson. Not because he stands against the sin of homosexuality, but because he stands with God.

I know, I said I was going to step back but I just can’t help myself.  Anyway I found this interesting video on You Tube.  Please take a few minutes to check it out.

It’s shocking to see how quickly we have transformed as a society.  Principles that were commonplace only 50 years ago are now gone.  The narrator ask how do we snap people out of this state of affairs; or as I see it this apathetic mindset?  What needs to happen to wake the people up?  In my opinion waking people up will be a monumental task.  It will take a massive effort on the part of liberty loving citizens to deprogram a citizenry that has been conditioned to accept these blatant violations of our constitution and their rights in the name of security.  After all people want to feel safe.  And because they want to feel safe they’re ok with surrendering their individual liberties to the government.

Our founders could have done the same.  They could have surrendered their liberties to England in exchange for security.  Thank goodness they didn’t.  They chose liberty and the right for each person to be master of their own destiny.  Why today do we reject this?  Why do we reject the founders?  Maybe it’s because we feel that the dangers we face today are far greater than the dangers the founding generation faced.  I mean all the founding generation had to worry about was keeping a union of 13 states together, defending their homes from Indian raids, creating a system of government that all states would agree to, and worrying about an invasion from another country after seven years of war with their mother country.  Not to mention disease and the various outbreaks that came with it.  And yet they still believed that individual liberty was the answer.  Why don’t we?  Is it because we want to feel safe?  I want to be master of my own security and I’ll live with the risk that comes with a free society.

Politicians: Serving themselves and not the people they represent

Sign-Diapers-+-Politicians-Should-Be-Changed2With the exception of a few politicians, I have very little use for most of them.  I see them as dishonest brokers and opportunists who will say and do anything to get reelected.  They are more in tune with themselves than the people they represent.  And they don’t care about us or about our concerns.  So why should we care about them and their concerns?  Why should we make what they want to impose on us a priority?  And why do we keep reelecting them?  They have no clue about our problems, our struggles, and even when they do know they don’t care.

In fact a Gallop poll from this past April shows that the top five concerns for Americans are the economy, unemployment/jobs, dissatisfaction of the government, the federal deficit and debt, and healthcare.  And yet the two major pieces of legislation congress has advanced is gun control and immigration reform.  Only four percent of Americans consider both gun control and immigration reform as a top priority.  Americans see the decline in the family/moral/ethical values as a higher priority than gun control and immigration reform.  And yet gun control and immigration reform has become the priority.  Why?

The answer is because politicians are self-serving and both parties believe there is something to be gained.  The Democrats see an opportunity to increase their base by gaining millions of new Hispanic voters.   The Republicans have bought into the lie that if they don’t do something they will forever be in the minority because they will never be able to win a Hispanic vote they have never won.  In the end this has nothing to do with serving the people.  It has everything to do with serving themselves.  Have you seen any effort to get our spending under control or any proposal that would help our economy?  What about jobs?  And look at healthcare.  Most politicians now know that without some major tweaking ObamaCare is going to be a train wreck and millions of people are going to pay for it in more ways than one.  However have you seen any real effort to fix it?  No.  The Republicans see it as a political sledgehammer to use against any Democrat that voted for it.  They need the people to feel the pain and for that pain to flow into the 2014 elections.  Forget the fact that people will needlessly suffer.

Why do we continue to reelect these people?  They don’t care about us.  Isn’t about time we become a little self-serving and elect people who will actually represent us; people who will address OUR priorities and not their own?  How is passing immigration reform going to help control the national debt, control spending, help the economy, and create more jobs?  It isn’t!  So what are we doing here?  Why do we even care?  We care because we want to save the republic and the only way this is done is by educating ourselves on the issues, dumping both parties, and becoming the sledgehammer the politicians fear.  And we start in 2014 by voting out those who serve themselves and not the people they represent.

Economist Pete Morici: “The President sets a terrible standard by his own conduct.”

Economist Pete Morici was on Fox and Friends Sunday morning and ripped President Obama and his administration for the “know nothing” narrative they’re trying to push in regards to the three major scandals enveloping them.  He stated that the President has set a terrible standard by his own conduct.  Check out the below clip.

Leaders in any organization set the tone through example and their enforcement or non-enforcement of the standards.  When a leader’s example sets a terrible tone in an organization this is this tone their mid to lower level managers will feed off of.  They will have their template as a model for all their actions.  President Obama is the leader of the Democratic Party.  He has set the tone for the Party and that tone has been extremely negative and combative towards any political opposition.  Members of his party take their cue from his tone.

This explains why seven Democratic Senators led by Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) warned the IRS back in 2012 that if they didn’t crack down on political groups that were improperly claiming tax-exempt status they would introduce legislation to force their hand.  We now know what this meant.  Was it enough to swing an election?  Maybe.  However this action by these Senators happened because of the tone set by the Democratic Party leader (President Obama).

Over the last few weeks as these scandals have unfolded we have learned a great deal about our government under this administration.  We have the IRS using the power we the people entrusted to them to suppress political opposition.  We have a Department of Justice secretly seizing the phone records of Associated Press reporters and an Attorney General of the United States claiming he had nothing to do with it.  And finally we have Benghazi and the editing of talking points by someone or some agency yet to be named.

All these major scandals have three things in common.  The first is a breakdown in discipline on all three fronts.  When discipline breaks down in any organization standards no longer matter.  Rules no longer matter.  And in this instance for two out of the three scandals the constitution no longer matters.  The second thing that all these scandals have in common is the President was either out of the loop or can’t talk about it.  Our consulate was attacked in Benghazi and our President was…well know one really knows where he was for sure.  The one place he wasn’t that night was in the situation room.  Our IRS was suppressing political opposition using the tax code and the President didn’t know anything about it.  And finally the super secret operation that seized the phone records of AP journalists…well this is an ongoing DOJ investigation that the President and Attorney General can’t talk about.  And finally the third thing they all have in common is that all the agencies that these scandals are coming out of fall under the President of the United States.  And he knew nothing.  That simply will not do.

The President needs to be held accountable.  He is the CEO of America and we the people are the stakeholders.  We hired him in a temporary position to do a job and he has failed to do.  Whether through dereliction of duty, not fulfilling the responsibilities of his office, or outright incompetence this President has failed the stakeholders he works for.  We can no longer turn a blind eye to the terrible standards this man has set.  We must start thinking about the kind of America we want to pass on to the next generation and this President should not be a part of that conversation.

Tyranny is the type of government our founders rejected

We need to get back to the basics as a people.  With all the scandals, corruption, attacks on our gun rights, attacks on our free speech, attacks on our faith, ignoring the constitution, crushing taxes, usurpations of states rights, suffocating regulations, and government using its institutions to threaten and impose its will on the people we need to find our way back to liberty and reject tyranny.  Take a good look, because this is what a soft tyranny looks like and we own it!.  This is the type of government our Founding Fathers rejected and we too should reject it.  236 years ago our founders stood against the type of despotic government we have today and eloquently listed their grievances against the Crown in the Declaration of Independence.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.   • He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

  • He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
  • He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
  • He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

Democrats are getting nervous about the 42 percent that are unaware of ObamaCare

071304_trainwreckFor the last few weeks some Democrats have been expressing their deep concerns about the implementation of ObamaCare.  During a budget hearing that featured Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius,one of the law’s chief architects Senator Max Baucus stated that he sees a huge train wreck coming in regards to implementation of ObamaCare. And the full impact of this train wreck will be felt by the midterm elections in 2014.  Making matters much worse for the Democrats was a recent poll by Kaiser Family Foundation that revealed that 42 percent of Americans are unaware that ObamaCare is still the law of the land.  The uninformed voter doesn’t even realize what is coming, but they soon will and this is making the Democrats very nervous.  The same uninformed voters who helped many Democrats and the President get reelected this last election cycle are soon going to feel the full weight of ObamaCare and the Democrats know they’re not going to like it.

An example of just how nervous they’re getting can be found in the words of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.  Harry Reid during an interview this past Wednesday on “The Rusty Humphries Show” said he shared his colleagues’ concerns that the Affordable Care Act could become a “train wreck” if it’s not implemented properly.  He told a caller on the show, “The president is taking money — I wish we had the money just to do this on its own, but he’s agreed, he’s determined he’s going to take money from some of the other things that he feels are less important in the healthcare bill and put it on letting you and others know what’s in the bill.”

Here’s where I see the Democrats taking this.  They’re laying the groundwork the place the blame on the Republicans for this train wreck that’s coming.  They know that the 42 percent who are unaware of Obamacare are going to turn against them when this train wreck happens.  They also know they can’t blame the Republicans for passing or not funding the law because to the frustration of many conservative like myself Republicans have continued to fund ObamaCare.  So they must change the narrative and there are plenty of blank pages in the minds of these uninformed voters to write a narrative that leads to Republicans not funding it enough.  Look for that narrative to be pushed in the very near future.

The Democrats are indeed getting nervous about the implementation of ObamaCare, but they’re even more nervous about the coming reaction of the 42 percent.  That reaction will have a huge impact on the 2014 midterm elections and the left knows it.  We can’t allow them to change the narrative.  They are responsible for this terrible law and they need to feel the weight of it and be held accountable come election day.

Benghazi: Officials are Finally Coming Out of the Shadows With Explosive New Information

The mainstream media has tried extremely hard to bury the story, but the tragic events surrounding the attack on our compound in Benghazi that led to the death of four Americans will not go away.  With little to no answers the administration that promised to leave no stone unturned in order get to the bottom of this is now taking a “nothing to see here…move along” attitude.  The proverbial “These are not the droids you’re looking for” line from Star Wars appears to be the tactic this administration is running with.  However, new information from inside sources appears to contradict the administration’s claims that there was no possible way to rescue our citizens who died in the attack.  Maybe there is something to see here.  Make no mistake folks, in my opinion this goes all the way to highest levels in our government and they desperately want this to go away.  I knew this ran deep a few days after the attack when Hillary Clinton was contemplating seeking legal counsel.  Not many people remember that little talked about fact.  Because this runs so high up the ladder, there has been a concerted effort by this administration to deflect, obstruct, and bury this story.  Below is a clip of Special Report that tackles this new revelation.  Please watch it.  It’s about 10 minutes long.

Folks if this leads to where I think it’s going to lead, then there really needs to be a criminal investigation.  Benghazi was and is a low point in our nation’s history and people need to be held accountable.  I don’t care how far up the chain it goes.  Four brave souls died and as of this writing I don’t know one person who has been held accountable.  When this story looked as if it was going to fade away, one of the first things I said was where are the people who know the truth?  Why isn’t anyone stepping forward?  Well it looks as if that is finally starting to happen.  I hope we have the courage to see it through no matter where it takes us.

Mayor Bloomberg’s twisted “interpretation” of America

mike-bloomberg-611x620Mayor Michael Bloomberg believes our interpretation of the constitution needs to change to allow for greater security to stave off future attacks like the Boston Marathon bombings.  And my guess is sadly many people agree with him.  During a press conference Mr. Bloomberg said, “The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry, but we live in a complex world where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.

Does this guy know anything about our constitution and why the Founding Fathers crafted in the manner they did?  It’s apparent he does not.  By trading our liberties for some sort of perceived sense of security we are allowing the terrorists to win.  This is exactly what they want.  They hate our constitution, our freedoms, our liberties, and our culture.  They want us to alter our society and surrender our liberties and Mayor Bloomberg is more than willing to help this along with his twisted view on what we should do to ensure we’re all safer.  His answer is changing our interpretation of the constitution so that the government is unshackled from the limitations it places on it.  That’s a dangerous and reckless position to advance because it steamrolls our liberties and freedoms.

Additionally I would argue that in the “olden days” early settlers taming the “Wild West” faced more challenges and life threatening situations than the average American does today.  And somehow they not only survived but thrived with little to no government intervention.  They didn’t feel the need to change their interpretation of the constitution.  Maybe because back then most people carried a Colt sidearm or a rifle on their person at all times to defend their lives and property.  They didn’t need a nanny state to protect them.  They took matters into their own hands.  Something to think about.

Mr. Bloomberg went on to say, “Look, we live in a very dangerous world. We know there are people who want to take away our freedoms. New Yorkers probably know that as much if not more than anybody else after the terrible tragedy of 9/11.  We have to understand that in the world going forward, we’re going to have more cameras and that kind of stuff. That’s good in some sense, but it’s different from what we are used to.

What Mr. Bloomberg fails to understand is that “those people” who seek to take our freedoms could end up being the government and by changing our interpretation of the constitution we’re surrendering our liberties and setting up the conditions for that to happen.  Our founders feared a government growing out of control and becoming tyrannical and usurping the peoples’ rights.  They lived under tyranny, fought against tyranny, beat back tyranny, and crafted a framework of government that strictly limited the federal government’s ability to impose its will on the people.  Mr. Bloomberg apparently believes that this line of thinking is flawed and we must do the opposite to protect ourselves.  What a tool.

Folks Mayor Bloomberg is only saying what is on the minds of many statists in this country.  His twisted interpretation of America tells me he doesn’t have a clue about our history or who we are as a people.  We need to take this narrative he is trying to push and stop it dead in its tracks.  There are many people out there who think along the same lines and this flawed thinking seeks to steal your liberties.  Don’t stand for it.  When you run into someone promoting this garbage call them out on it.

It’s called the “Marketplace Fairness Act” and it’s Anything but Fair

Well Congress is at it again.  They’re trying to ram through a bill called the “Marketplace Fairness Act” and it’s anything but fair.  It’s a bill that would fundamentally change interstate commerce by imposing tax burdens on Internet-based businesses while not applying the same burdens to brick-and-mortar companies.  It’s extremely discriminatory by its very nature.  Representative Mike Enzi (R, Wyo) tried to introduce this flawed bill back in February, but it met stiff opposition in committee so Enzi was forced to shelve it.  Two months later it has been restructured so that it qualifies for a Senate rule that allows Harry Reid to bypass committee debate and bring it straight to the floor.  This is how Congress rams through unpopular/controversial bills it doesn’t want examined or debated with a critical eye.  Representative Enzi should be ashamed of himself for advancing it in this manner.  Didn’t he learn anything from the passage of ObamaCare and all the procedural chicanery that took place to ram it through?  It just goes to show you there really isn’t much difference in the two parties anymore.  They both support the growth of government and will use the system to achieve this goal.  In the end it’s American people who continue to get screwed by these hacks.

If ever there was an example of “Crony Capitalism” this is it.  Investopedia defines Crony Capitalism as;

A description of capitalist society as being based on the close relationships between businessmen and the state. Instead of success being determined by a free market and the rule of law, the success of a business is dependent on the favoritism that is shown to it by the ruling government in the form of tax breaks, government grants and other incentives.

Try and guess who the bill’s biggest supporters are.  If you guessed big retail chains like Wal-Mart and state and local governments then you are correct.  Most big retailers support this bill being rushed through the senate because they know it adds an extensive layer of bureaucracy on the backs of their internet competitors.  This will achieve their goals of putting their competitors at an unfair disadvantage because the tax reporting burdens don’t apply to them. State and local governments see it as a way to squeeze more revenue out of the tax payer without looking like they’re raising taxes.  And finally Amazon supports this bill.  Why does Amazon support this bill you ask?  Well Amazon just happens to have a tax compliance service that they are ready to sell to other companies and with the passage of this bill it opens up a whole new market for them. It’s eerily similar to the reason why AARP threw its support behind ObamaCare.  When ObamaCare cut $400 billion from Medicare, AARP had the inside track on the Medi-gap insurance needed to make up for the shortfalls that people would feel because of the Medicare cuts.  Like Amazon they saw a new market opening up for them with the passage of ObamaCare.  This is the game being played in Washington these days and it sucks for us.

So as you can see this comes down to dirty politicians on both the federal and state level in bed with big retailers and Amazon to advance a bill that is mutually beneficial to both and one that screws the little guy.  There are a few politicians that see this for what it is and they’re trying to slow it down.

Some of our conservative friends are backing this Internet tax raid as a way to raise revenue to avoid more state income-tax increases. More likely the new revenues will merely fund larger government. Republicans who are realists about government would be wiser to join Senators Ron Wyden (D., Ore.) and Kelly Ayotte (R., N.H.), who are leading the opposition.

I encourage you to contact your elected official and let them know you don’t support this bill.  It’s a bad bill that smells of “Crony Capitalism” and that’s why  they’re trying to ram it through in the name of fairness.  This bill is anything but fair and I’m personally tired of these phony politicians always giving the little guy the shaft.

Bill Maher and his brain trust discuss the second amendment and gun rights in the below clip.

These people are absolutely clueless about the second amendment and why the right of the people to bear arms is so important.  They believe in the notion that an all powerful benevolent government would never impose its will on the people.  The one thing I noticed was as the conversation progressed Bob Costas began to reveal just who he was. According him those who support our right to bear arms are all paranoid.  He states we’re paranoid because we’re afraid the government might one day go too far and grow out of control.  Well Mr. Costas I wonder if the Founding Fathers were just as paranoid when it came to the people having the right to defend themselves against an out of control government.  Below are a few quotes.

Yep they were just as paranoid.  Like I said, these people are clueless.  Or maybe the truth is they know exactly what the second amendment is for, they just don’t support it because they believe that only government should be allowed arms.  If they do then their views on this issue are in direct conflict with the views our Founding Fathers held.  And if that’s the case why are we wasting our time listening to their misguided opinions or even care what these fools believe?

So you think the tradition of marriage is safe…you won’t after you listen to this

On my way to work this morning I caught the tail end of a segment that I personally found disturbing on the Mike Church show.  Mr. Church was talking about that comments made about the tradition of marriage by an American/Russian journalist name Masha Gessen who is a lesbian and gay activist.  I got to work and wrote down the name so I could research it later.  Below is audio clip I found that relates to this story.  I believe you will find it quite revealing.

“Fighting for gay marriage generally involves lying about what we are going to do with marriage when we get there — because we lie that the institution of marriage is not going to change, and that is a lie. The institution of marriage is going to change and it should change, and again I don’t think it should exist.”

That should tell you enough.

For the most part I’m a live and let live kind of guy…that is until the traditions and institutions that made America great come under attack.  I’ve always held the belief that government should not be in the business of defining marriage.  They need to stay out of matters of the church.  I also don’t believe marriage is a right.  I’m not saying that all same-sex marriage activists feel as Ms. Gessen does.  But I did hear a large number of people in the audience applaud when she said marriage shouldn’t exist and I find that extremely disturbing.  As should you.

Bill O’Reilly & Glenn Beck Discuss the Indoctrination of our Children and “Common Core”

Glenn Beck sat down with Bill O’Reilly the other night and discussed the indoctrination of our children this is taking place in our public schools.  Glenn Beck touched on a standard called “Common Core” and how it’s designed to dumb down our children.  Listen to the below exchange between Mr. Beck and Mr. O’Reilly.

Folks this is a very serious issue.  We cannot allow our children to be indoctrinated by the left or right and we cannot allow our children to be cheated from acquiring the critical thinking and problem solving skills needed to be successful in life.  If “Common Core” is as bad as Mr. Beck asserts, then it must be removed from our public schools.  Parents must get engaged and find out what their children are being taught.  It’s also time to eliminate the Department of Education.  It has done nothing to improve our educational system in America since its creation under Jimmy Carter.  The taxpayer return on this investment has been 0.0.  We cannot afford to turn our backs on this issue.  We must stand up for our children and make this right.

Countering Mayor Bloomberg’s Anti-gun ad Campaign…

Mayor Bloomberg is a typical statist who believes we the people can not be trusted with self-governance.  That all of our actions must be managed by some governmental agency or policy.  We simply do not know what is best for us, so he’s more than willing to spend his money to run ads that tells us what he thinks is best for us in regards to gun control and background checks and quite frankly I find this insulting and offensive on so many levels.  These ads are to be used to sway or shift public opinion in regards to gun control to the left and that concerns me.  The left is very effective at using propaganda to sway and win the hearts and minds of the uninformed and with each passing day the uninformed continue to grow in numbers in America.  Wayne Lapierre sat down with David Gregory on Meet the Press and discussed Mayor Bloomberg’s plan.

David seemed a tad bit hostile towards Mr. Lapierre.  That’s the problem with liberals, they don’t want to hear or deal with facts so they block them out and continue to press forward with their objective.  Mr. Gregory’s objective was to make Wayne Lapierre appear out of touch with the American people and unreasonable.  This is why he threw up those poll numbers and questioned whether the NRA was going against the will of the people by not supporting universal background checks. Make no mistake people the left’s war with the NRA and our second amendment rights is on.  They will try to make the unreasonable appear reasonable so you will trade your liberty and rights for a security that can never be attained and that’s the point Mr. Lapierre is trying to make.  No matter how many laws we impose crazy people will not be recognizable in the system and criminals will circumvent the system  You will never be able to prevent another Sandy Hook or Aurora Colorado shooting event.  You can only take steps to minimize the carnage when an event like that happens again in the future.  And those steps require less restrictive gun laws and more people carrying weapons on their person to defend themselves.  The left doesn’t want to acknowledge this even when the facts support it.

Think about this, if one teacher or one person in either of the above shooting events was armed the chances that the shooter would have been taken out before they killed so many increases dramatically.  Those who support gun control cannot wrap their brains around the notion that a responsible armed citizenry is the best defense against these nut jobs.  Instead they see it much like Mayor Bloomberg as a self-governance problem.  That an armed citizenry cannot be trusted and that only government can solve our problems.  This flies in the face of everything our founding fathers believed and fought for during the revolutionary war.  Armed citizens not only helped keep good order in the colonies, but they were essential in defending the colonies against King George’s tyrannical acts.  This is why the founders believed that the people’s right to bear arms was never to be infringed on, because they knew an armed citizenry was essential for a free society to function properly.  It kept the government and people honest with each other.

So how do you counter an ad campaign designed to sway public opinion in favor of gun control? You implement your own ad campaign to show how crucial the right to bear arms is in our society and highlight the positive aspects of it.  You appeal to the need that everyone has when it comes to self-defense in a chaotic world.  That’s how you counter the left and that’s how you win.  The NRA needs to consider this.

Mark Levin wants John Boehner and the Republican Leadership Removed M

Most of you know I’m no fan of John Boehner.  It was an epic failure by the House Republicans when they voted him back in as Speaker this past January.  The Republicans once again let an opportunity get away from them to turn this thing around and make a difference.  Today I was listening to Sean Hannity on the radio and he was interviewing John Boehner.  Nothing Boehner said inspired or gave me hope as a conservative.  He is the poster child for the establishment and as long as he remains as Speaker of the House conservatism will suffer.  Today Mark Levin commented on the interview and he didn’t mince words when it came to how he felt.

Last week when Boehner and the Republican leadership passed a continuing resolution that did not include the defunding of Obamacare and didn’t cut spending.  That alone should tell you enough about where the Republican leadership really stands with both issues.  And as long as the government can continue to live on continuing resolutions the defunding of Obamacare in the Ryan budget is nothing more than a bone being thrown to the base.  They all know it’s not going anywhere.  Budgets are a thing of the past.  Heck we haven’t had a budget in four years and Obamacare has still been fully funded.  I mean do they think we’re really that stupid?  All their actions say yes.

The only way the conservative agenda will move forward again is when this Republican leadership has been replaced.  These guys are nothing but “blue dog” Democrats calling themselves Republicans.  It’s time for them to go.

Military Tuition Assistance becomes a casualty of the “Great Sequester Scam”

Many members of my Air Force family are feeling the pain of the sequester.  A benefit they receive for their military service has been suspended due to sequester “cuts.”  The Military Tuition Assistance program helps members of our Armed Forces offset the cost of college and helps them achieve their educational goals. I myself used the program to complete my degree program while I was active duty and was grateful it was there.  Yesterday those educational goals were put on hold for many after the Air Force announced it was suspending its popular Tuition Assistance program for the remainder of the fiscal year and possibly into the next fiscal year.

We have an all volunteer force that is woefully underpaid for the job they do each day.  These unselfish highly trained and highly skilled warriors are willing to put their lives on the line to make sure we as a people remain free.  They are in short America’s finest and they don’t deserve this.  The sequester is nothing more than a political scam being perpetrated on a mostly uninformed electorate.  It doesn’t cut anything.  It reduces the amount of “projected” spending for the next eight years, which still increases over the period.  The below chart displays just how much of a scam this is.

sequester-chartSo as you can see a two percent reduction in “projected” defense spending in a eight year time period is one of the driving forces behind suspending Tuition Assistance for our military members.  A two percent reduction in “projected” spending for Non-defense Discretionary spending has forced the White House to shut down tours of the White House.  Folks do you see how much of a scam this is?  The chart pretty much displays it in all its glory.  And none of this pain is justified and yet for some reason still not known we’re feeling it.  It’s insulting.  It’s time for both parties to get off their asses and start doing what’s right for America and pass a budget.  It’s time to get our spending under control so we can keep the promises we made to those who are willing to put their lives on the line each day so that we can remain free.

Battle Lines Drawn

Mr. Paul’s filibuster was a big deal for reasons other than the obvious.  Sure, it’s great that he forced the Attorney General to admit that what they had previously condoned was actually illegal.  It’s excellent that he got some face time for a very important issue that otherwise wouldn’t have been talked about.  I’m happy that it has garnered support from the left and the right (that’s the first bit of bipartisanship I’ve seen in ages).  Still, that’s not what is most important to me.

What has me excited is that two GOP senators, who were eating with the President at the time of the filibuster, ended up being the only people to strongly oppose Rand’s actions.  Sen. McCain and Sen. Graham were quick to support the “we are at war” mantra as their excuse to bypass the 5th Amendment.  Even Eric Holder had to eventually cave to Rand’s argument, but not so with these two.  Of course, Graham is the “Free speech is a great idea, but we’re in a war” senator.

McCain and Graham’s righteous anger that burns for terrorists blinds them to a potentially greater threat, the erosion of our first principles.  What purpose does fighting those who hate freedom serve if we sacrifice freedom to defeat them?  Rand’s point was clear to everyone spare the old guard; if we know an American is on American soil and we know where he is, why is it that we don’t apprehend him instead of kill him with a drone?  “No American should ever be killed in their house without warrant and some kind of aggressive behavior”.

Graham argues, however, that the 5th Amendment gives the President leeway in times of war to hold enemies subject to crime.  The problem is that we’re not in a real war.  President Bush may have used war-like language and rhetorically declared war on “terror”, but the actions behind this are diffuse.  How do you determine if someone is guilty of terror?  Are there different levels of terror?  What are justified national reactions to these actions of terror?  For instance, is one guilty of terror if they supply propaganda for terrorists?  If so, can we kill you in your home for this action?  Anwar al-Awlaki and his dead teenage son would like to know the answer to that question.

Do I sympathize with people like Awlaki?  Of course not!  My problem is that the actions we are taking are done so by powers that no government should have.  This is the reason that our founders established a clear way of declaring war.  These requisites aren’t easy and they can be constraining, but that’s the nature of our Constitution.  Perhaps that also explains the nature of our politicians.  They dodge the restrictions of our Constitution by redefining terms or sidestepping legal opposition.

Unfortunately Congress gave President Bush the authorization to “use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.

Is this a declaration of war?  Of course not, perhaps because it is hard to declare war on a non-nation entity.  I can sympathize with politicians met with this dilemma in the aftermath of 9/11.  Still, this authorization has led to warrantless wiretaps against Americans, illegal military tribunals, and until Rand’s speech, an assumed authorization for the President to kill anyone considered a terrorist.  We’ve created a nearly unlimited enemy, and a limitless time frame that expands the war powers of the executive.  But Mr. McCain thinks this is just a political stunt that shouldn’t be given any attention.  Let the pols do what they will and trust them with this power.  I’m sorry guys, but I don’t trust you.

The silver lining to this encroachment of trust with power is that we are redrawing our political discourse.  Just when the GOP looked 6 feet under, a resurrection has emerged from those who deem liberty our greatest asset and protector.  This stark contrast between Rand and Cruz verses the antithesis duo of McCain and Graham is hopefully a sign of things to come.  Let there be a clear line of demarcation on the parchment of our Constitution.  Let the Supreme Law of the land echo in the chambers of Congress as it did Wednesday and whitewash the tainted walls.

Government and the Permanent Income Classes

socialism-class-warfare-against-the-united-statesThe other day I was having a conversation with an individual who like many on the left believes the rich needs to pay more in taxes.  When I asked why he believed this, he responded, “Because they can afford it and it’s the only fair thing to do.”  So my follow-up question was why can’t we afford it?  I could see the question caught him off guard.  He asked me to explain what I meant.  I said, “Why has it become more difficult for us to achieve success so that one day we too may reach the tax bracket you are proposing for the rich.”  I could tell by the tilt of his head and the perplexed look on his face he was struggling to come up with a rational answer.  He finally replied, “Because big corporations are in bed with the government and crafting laws that protect them and hurt the little guy.”  Finally some root cause analysis was being utilized to get to the root cause of our problem.  But there’s more to it than just big corporations in bed with the government.  There’s the tax code and the over-regulation of our free market.

These three variables do help create an environment where permanent income classes are becoming a very real thing.  With each regulation enacted, or a law implemented that favors big corporations over smaller startup companies or the tinkering of our success punishing tax code it becomes much more difficult for the lower income class to move up into the middle class income bracket and the middle class income to move up into the upper income tax bracket.  It creates barriers between the different income brackets that shackle us to our current income class.

This is why the President’s rhetoric about class warfare was so successful during the last election.  A permanent class feeling is sweeping over the people.  Couple this with the Federal Reserve devaluing the dollar and now you not only have an environment that reinforces permanent classes but one that attacks all income classes by diminishing our purchasing power.  Have you noticed how much harder it has become to stretch the dollar?  How the price of goods and fuel are going through the roof.  How there is less money in your paychecks.  President Obama’s policies combined with the printing of money by the Federal Reserve are a direct assault against all the classes.  And he wants you to believe the problem is the rich don’t pay their fair share.  This assertion that the rich don’t pay their fair share is also an attack on the lower and middle income classes.  Because no matter how you slice it whenever wealth is taken from the private sector to fund inefficient government programs, wealth is destroyed and we all suffer for it.  It’s too bad so many have third grade understanding about the creation and destruction of wealth and the impact both have on a society.

Ronald Reagan was correct when he said government is the problem.  Look at where it has led us.  We now live in an America where permanent income classes have become a very real thing for many Americans; created by government via its laws, policies, and regulations.  Maybe if more people understood this, the less enthusiastic they would be about embracing government and its policies that foster and establishes a new kind of America with permanent income classes.  Maybe they would finally see that government is indeed the problem. I’m not holding my breath…
