In 2008 then candidate Barack Obama promised many things, among them was his commitment to “restore America’s standing in the world.”
Then in 2009 in an interview with the Fox News Channel’s Ed Henry, he was asked about his global travels:
Ed Henry: “Well, since the last time we interviewed you, you’ve won the Nobel Peace Prize and by the end of this week, you will have visited 20 countries as President – the most of any US president in his first year. What have you accomplished?”
President Obama: “Well, a couple of key things. Uh, number one, I think that we’ve restored America’s standing in the world, and that’s confirmed by polls.”
Fast forward to 2014 and how has that renewed standing fared? Well, it would seem that the world has seen this president say one thing and do another one too many times. He ignored the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, yet went after Khadaffi with a vengeance in Libya. He drew a red line in the sand for Assad, without enforcing it and continued to snub Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu.
And lastly, he has pretty much become Russian President Vladimir Putin’s lackey. Of course, the fact that when Obama went to Russia for the G20 summit, he not only met with gay activists from Russia, but he lectured Putin on not allowing gay athletes to compete in the then upcoming Olympics in Sochi. This offended Putin to no end and in fact, he was infuriated by the whole ordeal. But before you think that President Obama only did this in Russia, he also did this on his trip to Africa. Again, this really pissed off most of the leaders of the countries on the continent of Africa, of course the difference being that none of them wields the same power as Russia on the world stage, and therefore are not seen as a threat in the same way that Russia is.
So it would seem that Obama either has immense political blinders on, or he hires the stupidest advisors in the world, OR he is just so focused on his radical ideology that he either doesn’t care or doesn’t know that he’s not winning friends and influencing people, to paraphrase Dale Carnegie.
But don’t take my word for it, check out this totally embarrassing display at an Obama press conference at a Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague in the Netherlands. Now for you all who are keeping score, that’s in Europe – a continent that is supposed to be home to a great number of our allies.
Personally, I cannot wait for the 2016 elections to roll around. There are plenty of great Conservative leaders who would make awesome candidates, and when elected they can go about the business of truly restoring America’s standing in the world.
You know it was said that in ’08 the American electorate suffered from war fatigue and that helped usher Obama into the White House. I’m thinking that now the American electorate, along with the rest of the world, is suffering from Obama fatigue.
