If you recall, Glenn Beck wanted to buy Current TV, Al Gore’s failed TV Network, but was told that it didn’t match their values.  However, selling it to a Muslim network, Al Jazeera, was just fine.  And, what has Al Jazeera done?  Almost worse than nothing, if ratings are going to be your judge…

Al Jazeera America, which had hoped to challenge the major cable news networks, is falling on its face, based on last week’s ratings, in which some shows didn’t record a single viewer in the key 25-54 demographic.

The network, which was purchased from Al Gore in January for $500 million, is suffering from low distribution and poor content.

Consider This, a show on the new network hosted by Antonio Mora, had the distinction of averaging just 9,000 viewers for the week and 3,000 in the demo. Last Thursday night, according to Nielsen, the show racked up a zero in the demo. Compare that to the major cable news networks—which regularly average well over 200,000 in the demo—and you can see just how bad things are.

And we thought that MSNBC was poison to viewers?  This takes the cake.  Of course, many outlets have dropped Al Jazeera due to it’s questionable connections, and advertisers have avoided it due to the fact that no one watches it.

I bet Glenn Beck would have actual viewers, advertisers, and good content, but he didn’t match the values of team Gore.  Al Jazeera did.  What does that say about Gore, and Al Jazeera?

As we had reported, the Goracle’s befuddled TV network, Current TV was in serious financial trouble, and the investors were looking for a buyer.  It appears that they have already found one, in the name of Al Jazeera.  Newsbusters has more…

The following is an excerpt from Stelter’s online January 2, New York Times article:

Al Jazeera is finalizing a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore and his business partners seven years ago.

If the deal is completed, Current will provide the pan-Arab news giant with something it has sought for years: a pathway into American living rooms. Current is available in about 60 million of the 100 million homes in the United States with cable or satellite service.

Rather than simply use Current to distribute its existing English-language channel, called Al Jazeera English and based in Doha, Qatar, Al Jazeera will create a new channel based in New York, according to people with knowledge of the deal negotiations. Potentially called Al Jazeera America, roughly 60 percent of the programming will be produced in the United States while the remaining 40 percent will come from Al Jazeera English.

Al Jazeera may absorb some Current TV staff members, according to the people, who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. But Current’s schedule of shows will most likely be dissolved in the spring.

The plan will bring Al Jazeera, which is financed by the government of Qatar, into closer competition with CNN and other news channels in the United States.

OK, this begs the question; why do liberals and Muslims always seem to be holding hands?  Liberals seem to want freedom to the point of license for a number of activities that would result in public execution if committed in an Islamic state.  The liberals favor “slut walks,” and “equal rights for women,” yet they turn a blind eye when Muslims pour acid on the faces or their wives or daughters.  They look the other way when oppression of the most despicable type is committed by Muslim regimes all over the world.

At any rate, there won’t be much of a change at Current TV.  It will still advocate for totalitarianism, it’ll just come from a slightly different source.

A joyous time of year. For murder!

Here at the headquarters of Manhattan Infidel our mission statement mentions our pride in disseminating the latest in culture.  And what says culture more than a cheap made for TV movie?  The mission statement also mentions I am lactose-intolerant.  Yet I also love to eat pizza with extra cheese.  While eating ice cream.  And practicing auto-eroticism.  And drinking milk.  And now with the Christmas holiday behind us it is time to review this year’s top Christmas-themed specials.  And please, lay off the cheese.  I have a sensitive digestive tract.

Unlike the innocent Christmas specials of the past which featured singers such as Andy Williams or Bing Crosby singing holiday staples the new crop of Christmas specials were more “cutting edge.“  A brief sampling of which follows.

Deck the Halls with Boughs…….of MURDER!

This very popular TV movie featured Carrot Top in his hoped for comeback role as a HGH using, steroid abusing Santa who steals money from people’s homes after delivering presents.  Unfortunately one such home owner catches him in the act.

Most memorable moment:  A naked Carrot Top covered in blood, holding a butcher’s knife and saying, “I just wanted your money, bitch!”

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (Because Its Natural Habitat was Destroyed by Deforestation)

A global warming-themed Christmas special produced by Al Gore’s Current TV featured a herd of crazed and hungry reindeer that invade a suburban Cul-de-sac, running over grandmothers, eating children and defecating on lawn ornaments. Catastrophe is averted as resident agree to forgo cars, light bulbs and flush toilets to stop anthropogenic global warming.

Most memorable moment: The reindeer, panicked and crazed by their unfamiliar surroundings stomp, bite and tear the flesh off a naked and blood-covered Carrot Top.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas (So Get That Nativity Scene Off Government Property!)

One of the more popular and inclusive Christmas specials, this one shows the origins of Christmas in ancient Kwanzaa practices going all the way back to the mid-1960s.  A typical suburban family, disturbed by the exclusive practices of Christmas sue to remove a nativity display from a courthouse square and replace it with the core Kwanzaa principles of unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.

Most memorable moment: A naked Carrot Top, dressed only in a yarmulke crashes a Kwanzaa celebration and asks if Jews could participate, since “the Jews of the bible were Africans.”

The Night Before Christmas and All Through the House was Blood and Gore (Thanks to a Lack of Gun Control)

Produced before the tragic events in Connecticut this anti-gun movie features Carrot Top as a mild-mannered paper salesman who one day finds a discarded gun in the street and goes on a horrifically violent killing spree.  Fortunately the horrified and guilt-stricken survivors give up all their weapons, leaving only the benevolent security force of the state armed.

Most memorable moment:   A naked and covered in blood Carrot Top looks down at the gun in his hand and says, “I’ve never committed a crime in my life.  But from the moment this gun was in my hand I had an uncontrollable urge to kill.  This gun is possessed!”

I’ll be Home for Christmas (Thanks to High-Speed Rail)

Produced the the California Department of Tourism this movie revolves around a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by global warming. The band of survivors vow to rebuild their society but without carbon monoxide producing cars or Earth destroying 100-watt light bulbs.

Most memorable moment: Carrot Top (naked because clothing causes global warming) vows in front of an excited crowd, “As God, or science, is my witness I shall never be hungry again and I will only eat local produce as I take high speed rail home for Christmas!”

And there you have it readers.  What a memorable crop of TV movies.

Current TV up for Sale: Anyone Want to Buy Yet Another Failed Liberal News Outlet?

Share

In a completely shocking and utter unpredictable turn of events, it appears that Current TV, Al Gore’s attempt at a news network propaganda outlet, hasn’t worked out so well, and is now up for sale.  For the rest of the sad news, here is more from Michelle Malkin.

Current TV may soon beon the market for any buyer looking to further validate Thomas Tusser:

Current TV, the ratings-challenged cable network started by former Vice President Al Gore, has put itself up for sale, The Post has learned.

“Current has been approached many times by media companies interested in acquiring our company,” CEO Joel Hyatt told The Post. “This year alone, we have had three inquiries. As a consequence, we thought it might be useful to engage expertise to help us evaluate our strategic options.”

Current is still interviewing investment banks and has yet to launch a formal sales process, said one source.

The service, launched in August 2005 after Gore had begun his crusade against global warming, has churned through programming and personnel as it tried to find its voice.

The channel started out as youth-centric and user-generated before going heavier on news and documentaries. Its latest incarnation is as a left-leaning cable news network, à la MSNBC.
[…]
Current, owned by Gore, Hyatt and some private backers, is in about 60 million homes, which could make it valuable to buyers looking for cable network distribution.

It gets about 12 cents a subscriber from pay-TV operators that carry it, or around $82 million last year, according to SNL Kagan. Ad revenue last year was estimated at just $16.9 million.

So, if anyone has a dollar or so, and wants the opportunity to fire a bunch of moonbats, get on the phone, and buy the network!  Of course, you’ll have to get someone to actually watch it.  However, playing cartoons alone would probably bring in more viewers.

And, by the way, Cmonster over at Soylent Green is already on the case.

Current TV to be Dropped by Time Warner Due to Low Ratings?

Share

Our lefty friends are having a rough month.  The “war on women” meme fell flat.  The economy continues to stagnate, and gas prices continue to creep upward.  And like a tired fighter, the administration keeps trying to throw clumsy hay-makers, and most often miss their opposition.  One of the recent piles of fail involves Keith Olberamnn and Current TV.  Olbermann was fired by the network for refusing to play nice, and I guess the smelly, talkative limo drivers were just too much for poor Keith to bear.  But, that’s not the end of the woes for Current TV, because, even though ubermoron drew some viewers, the audience dropped quickly, and without ubermoron, they’ll drop even more.

That does not sit well with cable giant, Time Warner…

(Reuters) – Al Gore’s Current TV has bigger problems to deal with than a potential lawsuit from fired news anchor Keith Olbermann – namely not getting kicked off Time Warner Cable for low ratings.

According to three sources with knowledge of the situation, Time Warner Cable Inc’s carriage agreement with Current TV stipulates that, if the left-leaning political news network fails to meet a minimum threshold for overall viewers in a given quarter, financial penalties such as Current TV being required to increase marketing and promotion spending on the cable operator’s systems are triggered.

If Current TV misses the audience benchmark in two consecutive quarters, another clause is triggered that would allow Time Warner Cable to drop the channel. The condition was built into the most recent distribution pact between the two parties, which was signed in 2010.

“Time Warner Cable has been flirting with the idea of pulling Current off its systems for some time now,” said one of the sources, who all spoke on condition of anonymity.

So, here we go again.  Air America was well funded, with a ton of regressive talking heads to spew the party line.  The whole idea was to get the regressive message out to the masses.  However, they failed to realize that people don’t want to be told that their stupid, and must submit to the nanny state, so Air America failed.  Now, we have Current TV.  Partially owned by the Goracle, it has been showered with money, as well as washed up regressive talent that had been fired by other unsuccessful networks.  Current TV bills itself as a regressive network, and like Air America, will more than likely fail in the end.  Not because of us evil right-wingers, or some corporate conspiracy to silence them, but because people simple refuse to watch and listen to lies and condescension 24-7.

Keith Olbermann Fired: Still Can’t Play well with Others? UPDATED: Olbermann’s Response

Share

It seems that Keith Olbermann is having a very hard time holding a job.  After less than a year on Current TV, Olbermann was let go by the network.  The Blaze has more…

“We created Current to give voice to those Americans who refuse to rely on corporate-controlled media and are seeking an authentic progressive outlet. We are more committed to those goals today than ever before,” network co-founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt wrote in a letter to viewers. “Current was also founded on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers. Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it.”

Olberman’s dismissal comes less than a year after he was hired by the network, following his firing from MSNBC.

I guess the Goracle hinted very strongly that Olbermann had a very hard time following their corporate vision.  I’m sure he could do the propaganda just fine, but would imagine that he wasn’t at all  able to handle the “respect” part.

At any rate, I think he needs to get a placard stating, “Will propagandize for food.”

UPDATE:  Olbermann has given a response, via the ironically named Twitlonger…

My full statement:

I’d like to apologize to my viewers and my staff for the failure of Current TV.

Editorially, Countdown had never been better. But for more than a year I have been imploring Al Gore and Joel Hyatt to resolve our issues internally, while I’ve been not publicizing my complaints, and keeping the show alive for the sake of its loyal viewers and even more loyal staff. Nevertheless, Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt, instead of abiding by their promises and obligations and investing in a quality news program, finally thought it was more economical to try to get out of my contract.

It goes almost without saying that the claims against me implied in Current’s statement are untrue and will be proved so in the legal actions I will be filing against them presently. To understand Mr. Hyatt’s “values of respect, openness, collegiality and loyalty,” I encourage you to read of a previous occasion Mr. Hyatt found himself in court for having unjustly fired an employee. That employee’s name was Clarence B. Cain. http://nyti.ms/HueZsa

In due course, the truth of the ethics of Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt will come out. For now, it is important only to again acknowledge that joining them was a sincere and well-intentioned gesture on my part, but in retrospect a foolish one. That lack of judgment is mine and mine alone, and I apologize again for it.

I did reprint it in full, as it appears to be a public announcement.  Considering that I have no faith in either Olbermann or the Goracle, who knows where the truth lies.

UPDATE II:  Apparently, legal action might result…

Olbermann’s longtime attorney Patty Glaser has vowed a tough fight with the network after negotiations over a severance payment for Olbermann failed. And Current has hired a team of crisis public relations experts to help guide their response.

Public relations experts?  To fire Olbermann?  I think that states far more than I could.

Olbermann Losing Audience at a Fantastic Rate: Will he Kill Current TV?

Share

It seems that Olbermann can’t keep an audience anywhere.  I guess that’s some douche-nozzle karma happening.  For the coverage, here is an excerpt from the NY Daily News…

After debuting to promising ratings on the Current cable network in late June, Olbermann’s political commentary show posted its lowest numbers yet the week of Sept 5-11.

Nielsen figures provided by industry sources also show that, based on weekly averages of the program’s performance on Current, “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” has never done better than its debut week on Al Gore‘s hard-to-find cable network. (It did come close on Aug. 30, racking up 310,000 total viewers; 102,000 of them adults 25-54.)

For the week of Sept. 5-11, “Countdown” attracted an average 142,000 total viewers and an average 46,000 adults aged 25-54 – the demographic category that advertisers consult when buying time on cable network news programs.

Those figures are less than half of the ratings “Countdown” posted in its debut week on Current. The show averaged 319,000 total viewers that first week; 114,000 in the key 25-54 demographic.

The NY Daily News Article also reports that Ubermoron makes $10,000,000.  That certainly makes Ubermoron an anchor, not in a news sense, but the kind that is tied the neck of Current TV, and the water is awfully deep out there.
