As we all know, and as the democrats, president, and MSM lied about, hundreds of billions of dollars are being taken out of Medicare to pay for ObamaCare.   We saw this coming, and tried to warn people, but they decided to drink the Kool Aid, and vote for Obama again.  And now, for many senior citizens, drinking the Kool Aid is going to be a bit more literal than figurative than they would like.

On Oct. 1, 2012 the Obama administration started awarding bonus points to hospitals that spend the least on elderly patients. It will result in fewer knee replacements, hip replacements, angioplasty, bypass surgery and cataract operations.

These are the five procedures that have transformed aging for older Americans. They used to languish in wheelchairs and nursing homes due to arthritis, cataracts and heart disease. Now they lead active lives.

But the Obama administration is undoing that progress. By cutting $716 billion from future Medicare funding over the next decade and rewarding the hospitals that spend the least on seniors, the Obama health law will make these procedures hard to get and less safe.

The Obama health law creates two new entitlements for people under age 65 – subsidies to buy private health plans and a vast expansion of Medicaid. More than half the cost of these entitlements is paid for by cutting what hospitals, doctors, hospice care, home care and Advantage plans are paid to care for seniors.

You can follow the link to read the rest, but this is the death panel, without the panel.  As I have said many times before, they won’t say you can’t have something, or openly say “nyet comrade,” they will use restrictions, conditions, and regulations to make it impossible for you to do it in the first place.  First, you have the circumstances discussed here-penalizing doctors and hospitals that provide more care, and incentive’s less care.   Then, add on the medical devise tax, which makes pacemakers and artificial joints more expensive (and have caused the manufacturers of the devises to cut back or close entirely).  Then, consider that less and less doctors are even going to be accepting Medicare, and you see the whole circle coming about.

Remember “granny dumping?”  Under ObamaCare, it’s now the preferred course of treatment.

One thing that we always have to keep in mind is that government won’t just come out and tell us what they are doing.  Instead, they will create regulations to accomplish something without telling us.  ObamaCare is great example.  They aren’t going to just come out and say that they’re going to kill granny, they’ll just create a situation in which granny dies, and say nothing.  And, if the outcry becomes loud enough, they’ll blame it on someone else.

For the latest example of this, take a look at this from Doug Ross…

131222-death-panel-comix2And here’s even more from AMAC…

As if ObamaCare’s botched website, coverage cancellations, and higher costs were not bad enough, the Obama Administration has quietly dealt yet another blow – this time striking millions of the nation’s most vulnerable seniors.  Specifically, the Obama Administration has decided to deeply cut funding for the Medicare program’s home health benefit as a way to help pay for ObamaCare.

The Administration made this announcement very quietly, waiting to do so until the very end of the last Friday before Thanksgiving, perhaps thinking that most people would not be looking.

To be sure, the timing of the Administration’s quiet announcement did keep it out of sight – for a while.  That ended on December 12th, however, when the Washington Examiner broke the story in an article headlined “ObamaCare forcing 14 percent cut in Medicare’s home health program.”  FOX News and the Daily Caller have also picked up this story, so full attention is now being paid to this unprecedented cut – and the harm it will do to frail seniors across America.

As the Examiner’s Richard Pollock wrote, “An estimated 3.5 million poor and ill homebound senior citizens will wake up on New Year’s Day to discover ObamaCare has slashed funding for their home health care program.”  He’s right: on January 1st, the Obama Administration will sharply cut Medicare funding for home healthcare services.

Remember the the hundreds of billions of dollars that we said was coming out of Medicare to pay for ObamaCare?  Remember how we were called kooks and liars for pointing that truth out?  Well, now we are going to see the consequences. When granny and grandpa get cut off, Obama voters will have to go back to the standard of blaming someone else for what the democrats did.

And, if you voted for Obama; you voted for this.  You were warned, but you wanted to call names and drink the Kool Aid instead.  Now you know why it is called, “drinking the Kool Aid.”

Elections have consequences, and in this case, fatal ones.

Remembering JFK 50 Years Later: He Cut Taxes, and it Worked!

Today is the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.   He was a Democrat from a different era-when democrats were overwhelmingly   JFK was anti-communist, and pro-growth; something scorned by today’s democrat politicians, who are, at least behind closed doors, communists themselves.  So, in honor of the memory of JFK as an actual American, here is part of a speech in which he proposed to cut taxes…

JFK did eventually cut taxes.  And, if you look it up, the 60’s were rather prosperous.

H/T:  The Lid

Seniors Starting to Feel the Pain of ObamaCare, Doctors Being Dropped

Remember how we pointed out that to pay for ObamaCare, Obama took hundreds of billions out of Medicare?  And remember that no matter how much evidence we showed, the President, the media, and anyone on the left said that we were lying?  Remember the ads featuring Paul Ryan tossing Granny off the cliff?

Yeah, they lied about all of that too.  And, their Medicare cuts are now coming home to roost.

And so it begins..

On November 9th America’s Watchtower reported that senior citizens were losing their Medicare coverage as a result of Obamacare and now the story is getting even worse for those senior citizens who were duped into voting for the Democrats based on this fear mongering campaign for thousands of doctors are also being cut from Medicare as a result of the president’s signature legislation.

UnitedHealth Group dropped thousands of doctors from its networks in recent weeks, leaving many elderly patients unsure whether they need to switch plans to continue seeing their doctors, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The insurer said in October that underfunding of Medicare Advantage plans for the elderly could not be fully offset by the company’s other healthcare business

I would like to remind people that if they voted for Obama, they voted for this.  It’s Obama that’s throwing granny off the cliff.  But, like any other negative event, they’ll blame it on someone else.

Did I mention that the AARP supported ObamaCare, and KNEW this would happen?  If you are a senior, you might want to thank them for throwing you under the bus.

ObamaCare Damage: Indiana University Cuts Jobs, Limits Graduate Assistant’s Hours

In another case of ObamaCare Damage, we see that Indiana University is cutting jobs, and hours…

I remember being a grad assistant.  That money comes in real handy.  It provided me with my staple foods…

1.  Hot dogs

2.  Pierogis

3.  Peanut butter

4.  Coffee

5.  Beer

Seriously though, If I had my hours cut, I would have really been in a tough spot.  I can only imagine what the grad assistants at that school are going through.  It has to be tight.  For the staff, it isn’t known if the contracted agency will hold them to under 30 hours a week, but if they didn’t they’d have the same problem.

Let me end this like I end all of these posts…

If you voted for Obama, you voted for this.  You were warned.  Elections have consequences.

ObamaCare Damage: 41% of Small Businesses Have Frozen Hiring Due to ObamaCare

If only someone would have warned us.  Oh wait! More predictions about ObamaCare are coming home to roost.  Now, Gallup shows that 41% of businesses have stopped hiring due to ObamaCare.

The carnage from the worst legislation in modern history keeps piling up.  The latest damage assessment comes from a Gallup poll that shows “Forty-one percent of small businesses surveyed have frozen hiring” because of ObamaCare, while an equally astonishing 19 percent have actually reduced the number of employees in their business specifically as a result of the President’s health care reform.  38 percent said they have pulled back on expansion plans.

CNBC reports:

“We were startled because we know that employers were concerned about the Affordable Care Act and the effects it would have on their business, but we didn’t realize the extent they were concerned, or that the businesses were being proactive to make sure the effects of the ACA actually were minimized,” said attorney Steven Friedman of Littler Mendelson. His firm, which specializes in employment law, commissioned the Gallup poll.

“If the small businesses’ fears are reasonable, then it could mean that the small business sector grows slower than what economic conditions otherwise would indicate. And small businesses have been a growth engine in the economy,” Friedman told CNBC.

Friedman found these results “startling” and described the reported job cuts as “significant, and a bit troubling.”  His firm commissioned the poll because they had been hearing such complaints from a number of their small business clients.

But wait, it gets worse: 24 percent of poll respondents are thinking about dropping insurance coverage for their employees (“If you like your health care plan, you will be able keep your heath care plan.  Period.  No matter what.” – Barack Obama, July 2009.)  And 18 percent report transforming full-time jobs into part-time positions – the great ObamaCare “burger flipper” transformation of the American workforce, which the media instantly lost its taste for discussing on the day George Bush left the White House.

Well, well, that’s not good news at all. And, therefore, it will be mostly, if not entirely, ignored by the MSM.

As usual, I will remind everyone that this was predicted.  It did not take rocket science-it took a grasp of the obvious to see that this would happen.

If you voted for Obama, you voted for this.  If you can’t find a job, and you voted for Obama?  You screwed yourself.  If you got you hours cut, and you voted for Obama?  You were asking for it.  You were warned.

Elections have consequences.

ObamaCare Damage: Sea World Reduces Hours for Thousands of Workers to Under 30 a Week

It would appear that SeaWorld is the latest in a long line of employers that are slashing worker’s hours to avoid ObamaCare penalties.  Breitbart has more…

SeaWorld has announced plans to slash thousands of part-time workers’ hours to no more than 28 hours a week. Reducing part-time workers’ current 32 hours a week down to 28 weekly hours will avoid Obamacare’s 30-hour full-time trigger that forces employers to provide comprehensive health insurance benefits or face up to $3,000 per employee in fines.

SeaWorld’s public relations department offered scant details on its plans but said the move “is intended to bring consistency to the part-time designation across the SeaWorld Parks system.” SeaWorld says part-time workers’ hours will be cut beginning in November but would not answer whether Obamacare prompted the decision.

“There is no other reason to change your cap from 32 hours to 28 other than” Obamacare, former Walt Disney World executive and University of Central Florida hospitality management professor Duncan Dickson told the Orlando Sentinel.

So, let’s repeat…

If you voted for Obama, you voted for this.  You were warned.

Elections have consequences.

ObamaCare to Cost Delta Airlines $100,000,000 IN ONE YEAR!

We’ve covered a lot of ObamaCare Damage in the last couple years.  Hundreds of thousands of workers have had their hours cut.  Many have lost their plans.  Almost 75% of all jobs created so far in 2013 are part time jobs.  And as a far as we can see, that’s only the beginning.  For the latest, here is a letter from Delta Airlines.

Delta Airlines expects Obamacare will directly and indirectly cost it $100 million in 2014.

As you can see, ObamaCare is going to present a significant threat to Delta, and it’s workers. Delta has the usual options at it’s disposal to deal with this, but under labor contracts, it is unknown how far they can go to survive.

Here is a quote…

More troubling, Delta notes it designed a specific insurance plan for its pilots. But because of “cadillac tax” rules, Delta is going to have to scrap that plan because, though it meets the needs of Delta’s pilots, it runs afoul of government regulations relating to the extravagance of plans.

I raised the wanting about this some time ago.  I said that if ObamaCare taxes “Cadillac Plans,” then the companies will change these plans to at least one cent below the tax threshhold.  In other words, I doubt the government will collect very much from that tax.

Oh, and by the way Delta pilots, did you “like” your plan?  Remember how Obama said, if you liked your plan, you could keep it?  Yeah, he was lying about that too.

And, these airlines are super-rich mega corporations, right?

My friend George Will, back in 2002, noted that the airline industry historically, “may not have netted a nickel since the Wright brothers. It certainly had net losses 1945-94. After the brief boom of the late 1990s, it was hemorrhaging money even before terrorists attacked the United States through the industry.”

If you recall, airlines got a bailout after 9-11, and they’ve never really bounced back.  Will Obama’s policies killing jobs left and right, people aren’t flying so much now.  Will Delta make it if they have to pay $100,000,000 in one year for ObamaCare?  I doubt it’s going to be pretty.

And, as always, if you voted for Obama, you voted for this.

Elections have consequences.

ObamaCare Damage: United Methodist Church Supported ObamaCare, Now Ending Benefits for Pastors and Staff, Because of ObamaCare

This is irony that hits close to home.  I was raised in the United Methodist Church.  And, I attended UMC Churches through much of my adulthood.  Sadly, they, like other large denominations, have supported a number of liberal causes, including ObamaCare.  Therefore, I worship elsewhere.  However, the UMC’s support of ObamaCare has had an unexpected consequence (at least to the UMC, that is).  The Acton Institute has more…

When the Obamacare legislation was rushed through Congress in 2010, Bishop Gregory Palmer, president of the Council of Bishops for The United Methodist Church (UMC), said he “rejoiced” at the passage of the bill because it aligns with the denomination’s values. But now, many Methodists bishops — and other Christian clergy — are wishing they hadn’t waited for the bill to pass to find out what was in it.

According to a statement released by the UMC’s General Board of Pensions and Health Benefits, clergy and lay employees of United Methodist churches may soon lose their health care coverage due to some coming Obamacare provisions:

This potential loss of benefits is due to an oversight in the writing of the bill which overlooked clergy and lay employees of churches as potential recipients of special tax credits for the purchase of health insurance.

Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) introduced the Church Health Plan Act of 2013 to fix this problem. The Affordable Care Act provides low and moderate income individuals and families with tax credits to cover the cost of commercial health insurance plans. The Pryor-Coons bill would extend the same tax benefits available to the general public to clergy and church employees receiving coverage from church health plans. Nationwide, more than 1 million clergy and church employees are covered by church health plans.

The United Methodist Church (UMC) is among the largest Protestant denominations in the U.S. Barbara A. Boigegrain, chief executive of the UMC pension and health benefits board, observed, “The majority of pastors and church workers are among the country’s low-to-moderate income level workers. They deserve to receive the full tax benefit under the law that corporate workers at small businesses will receive to help offset the cost of health insurance premiums or of health care costs. In the rush to establish a health care system that works for everyone, churches were overlooked. We ask our congressional leaders to represent all workers in the country, as they consider and vote on this legislation.”

Now, it appears that the  Methodists are being kind in saying that they were “overlooked.”  However, the Obama administration has made unprecedented attacks on Christianity, suck as forcing Christian institutions to purchase insurance that pays for abortion, or attacking Right of Conscience laws, so that Christians can be fired for refusing to participate in performing abortions, or not handing out “plan B” contraceptives.   I would venture to guess that the exceptions for Christians were intentionally left out.  If the UMC had read the legislation, they would have known it.  They supported it anyway.  But, since the Congress had to “pass it so we can what is in it,” they had no idea that they were being repaid by being screwed.

It could be worse though.  You could be in Syria, and be slaughtered by rebels Al Qaeda that President Obama is arming.

Hopefully, they aren’t completely deceived, and is realizing that the the Obama administration is a foe of Christ and his people.

Even More ObamaCare Damage: Even Reuters is Reporting on the Part-Time Job Trend

It seems that even Reuters can’t avoid discussing what we’ve been covering for months; that ObamaCare is forcing businesses to convert full time jobs into part time jobs.

Even Reuters can’t hide the truth any longer:

U.S. businesses are hiring at a robust rate. The only problem is that three out of four of the nearly 1 million hires this year are part-time and many of the jobs are low-paid.

Faltering economic growth at home and abroad and concern that President Barack Obama’s signature health care law will drive up business costs are behind the wariness about taking on full-time staff, executives at staffing and payroll firms say.

Employers say part-timers offer them flexibility. If the economy picks up, they can quickly offer full-time work. If orders dry up, they know costs are under control. It also helps them to curb costs they might face under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

This can all become a less-than-virtuous cycle as new employees, who are mainly in lower wage businesses such as retail and food services, do not have the disposable income to drive demand for goods and services.

I covered this weeks ago, but at least it is starting to trickle out.  Of course, the Obama administration will apply it’s typical  “lie and deny” strategy to it, and regressives will blame it on the businesses, who are having the audacity to stay in business, rather than try to pay for insurance or pay the ObamaCare fine.

If you voted for Obama, you voted for this.  You were warned.  Elections have consequences.

ObamCare Damage: Even NBC Now See’s That ObamaCare is Causing Worker’s Hours to be Cut

It seems that even the most loyal of networks is now talking about the fact that ObamaCare is causing worker’s hours to be cut all over the country.  Here are the facts…

According to a NBC News investigation, union bosses and small business owners agree President Obama’s signature healthcare law is causing employers to lessen workers’ hours to less than 30 a week. The reduction is leading to the destruction of the 40-hour work week and creating financial hardships as workers see their wages decreasing.

“To tell somebody that you’ve got to decrease their hours because of a law passed in Washington is very frustrating to me,” Loren Goodridge, the owner of 21 Subway franchises, told NBC News. “I know the impact I’m having on some of my employees.”

Companies nationwide, from well-known corporations to small businesses, are reducing workers’ hours to less than 30 per week. Once an employee crosses this threshold, the company is required to provide them with coverage — a struggle for many with small profit margins.

Again, this is where Democrats get reality challenged.  Fast food joints, and grocery stores have very small profit margins.  I have read some figures that suggest and average of around 5% is the average profit margins for many such businesses.  So, absorbing a great deal of more expenses -or even the ObamaCare fine, is not feasible.

Speaking of reality challenged…

Despite a growing number of companies cutting employees’ hours — of the 20 small businesses NBC News spoke to, almost all of which were — the White House says such examples are merely “anecdotal.”

“We are seeing no systematic evidence that the Affordable Care Act is having an adverse impact on job growth or the number of hours employees are working. … [S]ince the ACA became law, nearly 90 percent of the gain in employment has been in full-time positions,” Jason Furman, chairman of the president’s Council of Economic Advisors, told NBC News

Earlier this month, I covered that 77% of all jobs created so far this year were part time positions.

It also should be considered that businesses were hanging on in the hopes that a President Romney would have stopped ObamaCare, and would have taken steps to removed liberal blocks to economic growth.  As for evidence, I would submit that there were over 70,000 layoffs after Obama won the election.  And, these layoff occurred during the time, the holiday season, when businesses often add workers, not lay them off.  Now, businesses have resorted to “Plan B” in order to survive.  They know that raising prices is not feasible, especially with hundred of thousands of workers having less hours, and less money to spend.    So, they do what is needed.

And, even the union bosses are getting it.

“It is happening,” said Joseph Hansen, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers union.  “Wait a year. You’ll see tremendous impact as workers have their hours reduced and their incomes reduced. The facts are already starting to show up. Their statistics, I think, are a little behind the time.”

“Right now, unless you and the Obama Administration enact an equitable fix, the ACA will shatter not only our hard-earned health benefits, but destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class,” the letter states.

The union boss is absolutely right.  Where we might differ is that I believe the attack on the middle class is intentional.  Look at it this way.  Liberals are elitist, and they believe that everyone MUST live in accordance to their many dictates.  A middle class, that is economically independent, is intolerable to the regressive liberal.   They resist control, and can show up[ at the polls in sufficient numbers to impact the outcome-think Reagan! They have to be made dependent on the Federal government in order to control them.  All the regulations, taxes, and other obstacles set up by government are set up, in part, to attack the middle class, and bring them into a state of dependency.  Once dependent, they are under the control of the government, and therefore politically ineffective.

So, in spite of the many claims of government, people are losing hours and the related income, and even the MSM is having a hard time covering it up.

ObamaCare Damage: Schools Limiting Hours of Employees to Avoid ObamaCare Penalties

You mean that more people are going to lose hours because of ObamaCare?  Why yes, yes I do.  The Weekly Standard has more…

  • Lafayette School Corporation Has Had To Cut The Hours Of 150 Non-Certified Employees. “‘We cannot go out and raise the price of our product to assist us covering this. We would have to go the taxpayers and ask for some type of increase and I just don’t see that happening,’ said Les Huddle, superintendent of the Lafayette School Corporation, where more than 150 of the schools approximately 600 non-certified employees have had their hours reduced to meet the federal definition of part-time.” (Maureen Groppe, “Indiana Schools’ Dilemma: Offer Health Insurance To Part-Timers Or Cut Hours,” Courier-Journal, 6/8/13)
  • The Shelbyville Central School System Is Cutting Hours For Teacher Aides, Substitutes, Bus Drivers And Coaches.“The Shelbyville Central School System likewise is cutting back the hours of about 100 instructional aides as well as hours for some substitute teachers, bus drivers and coaches.”(Maureen Groppe, “Indiana Schools’ Dilemma: Offer Health Insurance To Part-Timers Or Cut Hours,” Courier-Journal, 6/8/13)

I wonder if these folks voted for Obama? And if they did, are they even aware that they helped do this to themselves?  Or, will they drink the Kool Aid that says that it’s always someone else’s fault?

Regal Entertainment Group Reduces Worker Hours to Comply with ObamaCare

It’s a shame that so many Obama voter are suffering the consequences of their vote.  But, then again, being a “low information voter” is a choice.  The information was out there, freely available.  People could  have looked up the facts and known that they were in for it if the voted Democrat.  But, too many listened to the MSM, or their union boss, and now, they are paying the price-literally and figuratively.  FOX News has the latest example, the Regal Entertainment Group,

The nation’s largest movie theater chain has cut the hours of thousands of employees, saying in a company memo that ObamaCare requirements are to blame.

Regal Entertainment Group, which operates more than 500 theaters in 38 states, last month rolled back shifts for non-salaried workers to 30 hours per week, putting them under the threshold at which employers are required to provide health insurance. The Nashville-based company said in a letter to managers that the move was a direct result of ObamaCare.

“In addition, some managers have requested guidance on what they should tell those employees negatively impacted and, at your discretion, we suggest the following,” read the memo obtained by FoxNews.com. “To comply with the Affordable Care Act, Regal had to increase our health care budget to cover those newly deemed eligible based on the law’s definition of a full-time employee.”

“To manage this budget, all other employees will be scheduled in accord with business needs and in a manner that will not negatively impact our health care budget,” the message continues.

Regal, which had revenue of $2.8 billion in 2011, is the latest company to respond this way to the Affordable Health Care Act’s requirement that employees at companies of a certain size who work more than 30 hours per week be provided health coverage. Applebee’s and Olive Garden also scaled back the hours of workers. A handful of colleges have cut hours because of the law, including Palm Beach State College in Florida and New Jersey’s Kean University. Critics say the law is boomeranging on working folks.

“If you want to have reduced work, lower wages and economic stagnation, this is a great way to do it, said Ed Haislmaier, senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

One Regal theater manager told FoxNews.com the move has sparked a wave of resignations from full-time managers who have seen their hours cut by 25 percent or more.

We predicted this long before the election, but no one wanted to listen.  So, these working class folks didn’t pay attention to what the Democrats were doing to them, and now they’re suffering for it.  But that’s OK, I’m sure they’re still blaming Bush anyway!

Elections have consequences.

Military Tuition Assistance becomes a casualty of the “Great Sequester Scam”

Many members of my Air Force family are feeling the pain of the sequester.  A benefit they receive for their military service has been suspended due to sequester “cuts.”  The Military Tuition Assistance program helps members of our Armed Forces offset the cost of college and helps them achieve their educational goals. I myself used the program to complete my degree program while I was active duty and was grateful it was there.  Yesterday those educational goals were put on hold for many after the Air Force announced it was suspending its popular Tuition Assistance program for the remainder of the fiscal year and possibly into the next fiscal year.

We have an all volunteer force that is woefully underpaid for the job they do each day.  These unselfish highly trained and highly skilled warriors are willing to put their lives on the line to make sure we as a people remain free.  They are in short America’s finest and they don’t deserve this.  The sequester is nothing more than a political scam being perpetrated on a mostly uninformed electorate.  It doesn’t cut anything.  It reduces the amount of “projected” spending for the next eight years, which still increases over the period.  The below chart displays just how much of a scam this is.

sequester-chartSo as you can see a two percent reduction in “projected” defense spending in a eight year time period is one of the driving forces behind suspending Tuition Assistance for our military members.  A two percent reduction in “projected” spending for Non-defense Discretionary spending has forced the White House to shut down tours of the White House.  Folks do you see how much of a scam this is?  The chart pretty much displays it in all its glory.  And none of this pain is justified and yet for some reason still not known we’re feeling it.  It’s insulting.  It’s time for both parties to get off their asses and start doing what’s right for America and pass a budget.  It’s time to get our spending under control so we can keep the promises we made to those who are willing to put their lives on the line each day so that we can remain free.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

It’s Sequester Madness!

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m getting a tad bit tired of all the sequester madness.  What?  You don’t know what sequester madness is?  Oh dear, let me fill you in.  The sequester is automatic spending cuts that happen id the Republicans in the House fail to compromise give in to every Democratic whim or demand.  However, the cuts in the sequester itself represents only the tiniest fraction of government spending.  In fact, there was probably more Porkulus money that went to places that don’t exist, than are in the sequester.  To further educate the good reader, here are some images…

sequester graph

sequester 3percent

In other words, it’s a cut in projected spending.  Think on that for a moment, and realize that the Federal Government always budgets to spend more on every line item of the budget-around 8%, if memory serves. If the “cut” is only 3%, then is it an actual cut, or a cut in the increase?  That, of course, would mean that we are still going to spend more than we did last year.

So then, what’s with all the lay-offs that Obama is threatening?  In a word, they are bovine excrement.  Yes, he’ll do them, but there’s probably enough money in places that don’t exist, or are being wasted on make-work, that can be redirected to more vital functions.

And, isn’t it amazing that all of the attention has been spent on a few job losses, when ObamaCare has already negatively impacted far more workers.  Like the ones that have lost their coverage.  Or the ones that had their hours cut.  Or the ones that lost their jobs all together?  They far outnumber the doom-sayers regarding the sequester.  I guess either those jobs aren’t all that important to the government or media.  Or, maybe the suffering caused by ObamaCare just doesn’t fit the narrative, so it doesn’t get discussed.

How about that?  But that’s sequester madness for you.  It’s when a crisis is manufactured to distract from the real ones.

I Had A Dream … A Conservative Dream!

My wife is one of those people who has long vivid dreams and she remembers in minute detail. Her dreams range from bizarre to weird, but they always involve the family. Me? I rarely remember dreams ( my wife thinks I am weird because of that). The occasional dream that I do remember usually involves me at a much younger age and people I do not know. My memory of the dream is always sketchy, at best. What I remember about last night’s dream is also sketchy; but what is interesting is that I was only an observer and not a participant in the dream and the dream was pure politics. You wouldn’t think it would be rare for a political blogger to have political dreams, but I don’t recall ever having had one before.

I can’t be sure but I think there were two things that may have precipitated this dream. One was a post I did earlier this month with the title: “One Man/One Vote” Does Not Mean All Votes Are Equal. In that post there were three political maps of the US in Red for Republicans and Blue for Democrats. One was the electoral college map after the 2012 elections showing 25 Blue states and 24 Red states. The second map was the same thing only distorted to reflect population. And, the third map was a Red and Blue map by counties and it was that map that had stuck in my mind at the time.

The Disenfranchisement of Rural America by James Huffman

I remember thinking two things about this map. First, whoever made the map forgot to color Alaska red and the other thing was that there is no reason the Republicans should ever lose control of the House of Representatives.

The other thing that may have brought on this dream was the last thing I read last night before shutting down the trusty computer. I had received an email from Martin at the  What Would the Founders Think blog advising me that Steve at Motor City Times was hosting a round table on the question of: Should the GOP drop social issues in order to win elections. Do yourself a favor and when you finish here get over to Motor City Times and read what the special roundtable had to say.

The Dream

As I said at the beginning, I do not remember dreams in detail so all I can do is give you the highlights as I remember them.

I was at a convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma.{ I do not know Tulsa at all. } It was a large auditorium and there was a banner over the stage the said Conservatives for America. There was a woman at the podium who had the crowd cheering. I can’t put a name to her, but I felt as if I knew her. Her message was that conservatives were sick and tired of President Obama saying: “If congress doesn’t do something, I will.” She said: ” We can play that game, too.” What had the crowd cheering was her plan for the 2014 mid-term elections. Conservatives in each district that had a Republican congressman would demand that they sign a pact to use the power of the purse to force the Senate and the President to reduce spending and pass bills that would help grow the economy and create jobs. The incumbents were to be told the if they did not sign the pact, conservatives in their districts would not vote for them even if that meant the seat would go to a Democrat.

When the word got out, the president and the Democrats and the media went on the attack. They claimed the Tea Parties had given the GOP the kiss of death. But, it was much more than the Tea Parties. As the mid-terms drew near, 218 incumbent Republican congress had singed the pact with Conservatives for America, however, 15 incumbents did not sign. The conservatives were true to their word. They supported the incumbents that had signed the pact and did not support the other fifteen. All of the 218 won relection, but only three of fifteen who didn’t sign managed to be reelected by very small margins. On of them was John Boehner. I have a vivid picture in my mind of Boehner, with his sad droopy eyes, reading a letter that said: “Dear Mr. Speaker: If you want to regain the nine seats your 2014 loses in 2016, you know what you have to do.”

Apparently, Boehner got the message. He set up a number of working groups among the Republican congressmen. A tough 2015 budget proposal was written, knowing it would be DOA in the Senate. Other groups took the current budgets of the EPA, DHS, DOE, Department of Commerce, the FCC, and the Department of Education. Going line by line, the working groups cut each department 50%. They, also, did each of these departments making cuts of 25%. Other working groups prepared bills to reduce corporate tax rate to 17%, to approve the Keystone Pipeline, to allow companies to bring home foreign profits with no tax, reduce capital gains tax to zero, and a bill to open federal lands to oil and gas exploration and development.

The dream moved to September of 2014. The House submitted their 2015 budget proposal. Harry Reid declared it DOA. The Senate sent a budget proposal to the House, which Boehner declared DOA. The media were blaming the GOP for the fact that there would have to be another Continuing Resolution. But, Boehner called a press conference. He made it clear there would be no Continuing Resolution. He explained that the constitution gives the House of Representatives the power of the purse and the House has already prepared the only spending it will approve for fiscal 2015.

There was a meeting between the House leadership and the Senate leaders. Boehner presented the bills they wanted the Senate to pass and what Boehner described and minor cuts to the department listed above. Harry Reid broke out laughing and prepared to lead his troops out of the meeting. Boehner stopped him and said “You might want to look at these”. He handed Harry the list with the 50% cuts. Harry turned bright red and said: ” You don’t have the balls!” To which Boehner replied: F**k you, Harry.” The meeting ended.

Obama and the media claimed that radical elements of the GOP were trying blackmail the country in order to protect the rich. Conservatives flooded the congressmen with emails of support. Harry Reid and the Senate called Boehner’s bluff and the 50% cuts went into effect.

Conservatives were ecstatic and tuned out the MSM attacks. They went to work in their districts and despite the projections of Obama, the Republicans picked up eight seats in the House.

There was a mood change in the country. The people and even the media could sense that something had changed. In September of 2015, the battle over fiscal year 2016 began exactly the same. Claiming that the country was being hijacked, The Senate and the President caved in and passed the House bills and the lower additional spending cuts. By June of 2016, the Dow was at 1500 and climbing. Companies were investing and hiring. The unemployment rate dropped to 6.2%. Gasoline prices were just over $3.00   a gallon.

Even though 2016 was a presidential election year, the House Republicans used the same ploy for the fiscal 2017 spending. Only this time they asked for reforms to Social Security and Medicare. The Senate Democrats were fearing for their political lives and gave the Republicans all that they asked for. Obama vetoed the Social Security and Medicare reforms, but his vetoes were overridden. America was on the road to a healthy economy and a bright future. Obama had become a laughing stock at home and abroad. All the polls showed the Republicans wining a landslide victory that would sweep the presidency and the Senate. The dream didn’t reveal who the presidential candidates were, but it was two men. Sorry Hillary!

That’s when I woke up with a smile on my face.

Okay. I can not tell a lie. I did embellish the dream just a tad. If you are going to dream, you may as well dream big, right?

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

Welcome to the World of ObamaCare: The 29er’s and the 49er’s

As ObamaCare continues to hit the country, we are seeing some new terminology emerge.  To get there, here is more from the WSJ…

Welcome to the strange new world of small-business hiring under ObamaCare. The law requires firms with 50 or more “full-time equivalent workers” to offer health plans to employees who work more than 30 hours a week. (The law says “equivalent” because two 15 hour a week workers equal one full-time worker.) Employers that pass the 50-employee threshold and don’t offer insurance face a $2,000 penalty for each uncovered worker beyond 30 employees. So by hiring the 50th worker, the firm pays a penalty on the previous 20 as well.

We’ve been covering this ever since the legislation passed,  It was very predictable to say that to avoid all of the complications and stay in business, that people would end up working less than 30 hours a week, and businesses would be wise to keep their workforce below 50.

A 2011 Hudson Institute study estimates that this insurance mandate will cost the franchise industry $6.4 billion and put 3.2 million jobs “at risk.” The insurance mandate is so onerous for small firms that Stephen Caldeira, president of the International Franchise Association, predicts that “Many stores will have to cut worker hours out of necessity. It could be the difference between staying in business or going out of business.” The franchise association says the average fast-food restaurant has profits of only about $50,000 to $100,000 and a margin of about 3.5%.

Because other federal employment regulations also kick in when a firm crosses the 50 worker threshold, employers are starting to cap payrolls at 49 full-time workers. These firms have come to be known as “49ers.” Businesses that hire young and lower-skilled workers are also starting to put a ceiling on the work week of below 30 hours. These firms are the new “29ers.” Part-time workers don’t have to be offered insurance under ObamaCare.

Well, there you have it.  We’ve been discussing this for a few years now.  The information was available.   If you voted for Obama, you voted for this.  Being a “low information voter” is no excuse.  Just remember that elections have consequences.

Eh, they’ll probably blame Bush.
