Newspaper Publishes List of Gun Owners: One of the Promptly Burglarized

We had covered that The Journal News had published a list of registered gun owners.  Many predicted that people on that list would be targeted, or even robbed to get at the guns they had.  Of course, any would be robbers would have to make sure that they were not home before they robbed them.

New York’s Westchester/Rockland Newsday has noteworthy details on the break-in (all subsequent emphasis added):

A White Plains residence pinpointed on a controversial handgun permit database was burglarized Saturday, and the burglars’ target was the homeowner’s gun safe.

At least two burglars broke into a home on Davis Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Saturday but wereunsuccessful in an attempt to open the safe, which contained legally owned weapons, according to a law enforcement source. One suspect was taken into custody, the source said.

The gun owner was not home when the burglary occurred, the source said. The victim, who is in his 70s, told Newsday on Sunday that he did not want to comment while the police investigation continues.

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to see this coming.  Either the houses would be avoided due to their owners being armed, or criminals would learn the schedules of the owners, and rob their house-for the firearms-while the owners are away.  But, we won’t see the newspaper taking responsibiltiy for that anytime soon.  They gun owners were supposed to be punished, for d
