It appears that a sex scandal is rocking Sesame Street, as Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16 year old teen.  Newsbusters has more…

Clash “adamantly denies” the allegations, but “has acknowledged to TMZ he had a relationship with the young man — but insists it only took place AFTER the accuser was an adult.” The accuser met with lawyers for Sesame Workshop. Clash said “I had a relationship with [the accuser].  It was between two consenting adults and I am deeply saddened that he is trying to make it into something it was not.”  TMZ added:

We’ve learned … Sesame Workshop lawyers recently met with a 23-year-old man who claims he and Clash began a sexual relationship 7 years ago … when he was 16 and Clash was 45.

Sesame Workshop honchos tell TMZ … “In June of this year, Sesame Workshop received a communication from a young man who alleged that he had a relationship with Kevin Clash beginning when he was 16-years-old.  This was a personal relationship, unrelated to the workplace. We took the allegation very seriously and took immediate action.”

Sesame Workshop officials acknowledge to TMZ they met with the accuser twice and had a number of other communications with him.

Sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell TMZ … after the accuser’s initial meeting with Sesame Street, the accuser felt Sesame Workshop’s lawyers were trying to muzzle him … so he lawyered up with Andreozzi and Associates — the firm that represented one of the victims in the Jerry Sandusky child rape case.

On August 15, 2012 … Andreozzi fired off a letter to Sesame, accusing the company of trying to “discredit the victim in order to protect its employee and the image of one of its most valuable characters,” adding, “This approach places a greater value on a puppet than the well being of a young man.”

Sesame Workshop officials tell TMZ  … they conducted a thorough investigation and determined the allegation of underage sex was unsubstantiated.  They say they never tried to silence the accuser — rather they asked for evidence supporting his claim, but he never produced it.

Um, it seems rather odd for Sesame Workshop to ask for “evidence” of a sexual relationship, doesn’t it?  I mean, are they the arbiter of what happened? Frankly, it strikes me as being rather odd.  And, that the Andreozzi and Associates are pointing some fingers at Seseame Workshop, doesn’t bode well for the accused.

I’ll keep checking back on this story.  It is a serious allegation, against someone who is in a position of influence over children.

Sports fans out there in the CH 2.0 readership will recognize Joe Paterno, the 40+ year Penn State Coach.  However, the PSU great is in significant hot water due to a sex scandal involving a former assistant coach, who has been accused of multiple counts concerning sex acts with children, some of which allegedly occurred at PSU athletic facilities.  Here is some coverage from ABC…

Paterno’s former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested Saturday for allegedly molesting eight boys, at least one of which Paterno allegedly was told about. Paterno was scheduled to have a news conference earlier today, but it was abruptly cancelled by campus officials.

Outside of his home today, Paterno, 84, told reporters and fans that he wanted to have the news conference, which was cancelled just an hour before it was set to begin.

“I know you guys have a lot of questions and I was hoping I was going to be able to answer them today,” Paterno said. “We’ll try to do it as soon as we can. Can’t do it today.”

Penn State officials also said today that they had not heard that the iconic football coach is getting the boot. Representatives from the public information office, board of trustees, and football department all denied being told anything that pointed to Paterno being removed from the head coach position, which he’s held for 46 years.

In 2002, graduate assistant coach Mike McQueary allegedly saw Sandusky in the shower of the football team’s locker rooms sexually assaulting a young boy of about 10. McQueary told Paterno what he saw, and rather than tell the police, Paterno reported the information to his boss, Curly, and then never spoke of the incident again, according to a grand jury presentment.

Paterno released a statement Sunday saying he “did what (he) was supposed to do” by reporting the incident only to his supervisor, Curly.

Curly and his supervisor, Shultz, did not report the incident to police. They then told Spanier that Sandusky had been seen acting inappropriately with a boy in the showers and had therefore restricted his access to campus grounds. Spanier approved, and did not contact the police.

Under Pennsylvania state law, only Curly and Shultz were responsible for contacting the police to report the incident, according to the attorney general.

There are rumors flying regarding Paterno’s future, including some that the iconic coach is losing support with the PSU Board. However, we are left with the single big question here; did Paterno do enough when presented with evidence of his assistant’s abuse of minors?
