Matthew 28:1-7 (New American Standard)

Jesus Is Risen!

1 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. 2 And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. 3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid ; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. 7 “Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee,there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.” 8 And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshipped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid ; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.” 11 Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’

He is risen indeed. If not for the resurrection, Jesus would be just another teacher, and the world would have wallowed in darkness forever. And now, while many would have us wallow in that terrible darkness, we have the hope of salvation, and ever lasting life. There are dark days coming, and once again Easter reminds us of Christ’s victory over evil and the grave. Those are victories that he shares with us freely. And while evil grows all around us, we should hold on to the hope that the resurrection provides. Basically, we know how this goes; the good guys win in the end. It’s in the book.

Here is some scripture to reflect on the meaning of this day, from the Book of Matthew…

Judas Hangs Himself

27 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed. So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”

So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel, 10 and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”[a]

Jesus Before Pilate

11 Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

“You have said so,” Jesus replied.

12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?” 14 But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.

15 Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus[b] Barabbas. 17 So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18 For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.

19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”

20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.

21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.

“Barabbas,” they answered.

22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked.

They all answered, “Crucify him!”

23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”

25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”

26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

The Crucifixion of Jesus

32 As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. 33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 34 There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 36 And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. 37 Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.

38 Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

The Death of Jesus

45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[d]

47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[e] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph,[f] and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.

Have a blessed day everyone.  And remember what Jesus did for all of us on that day nearly 2000 years ago.  He did that freely, for the salvation of all.

My Exclusive Interview with the Easily Conflated Brian Williams

Share

Whose wine? What wine? When the hell did I die?

The Brian Williams scandal keeps growing larger.  Williams, the anchor for NBC nightly news was caught telling a lie about allegedly having a helicopter he was riding in shot down while in Iraq.  He has since apologized, citing the “fog of memory.” Williams has graciously agreed to be a guest on my blog where he will tell his side of the story.

MI: Good afternoon Mr. Williams.

BW: Good afternoon Ezra Klein.  I admire your blog.

MI: Um, I’m not Ezra Klein.  I’m Manhattan Infidel.

BW: I am sorry.  I must have conflated you two.

MI: Right.  Anyway, let’s talk about why you are here. Since 2003 you have told on many occasions a story about how a helicopter you were riding in was shot down in Iraq.  It took veterans who were there coming forward to say that you were not in the helicopter for you to finally apologize for lying for over ten years.

BW: Let me say right off the bat that I was in a helicopter in Iraq but it turns out that the one I was on never was shot down.  That was another helicopter.  I must have conflated the two helicopters.  Memory is a funny thing. I must have conflated the two events.

MI: I don’t know. It seems pretty hard to confuse riding in a helicopter that wasn’t shot down with riding in one that was shot down.  I don’t see how you could confuse that.  I know that if I was riding in a helicopter that was not fired upon I wouldn’t say that it was shot down.

[Pause]

BW: I’m Brian Williams.

MI: Yes, I know.

BW: Where’s the teleprompter?

MI: There is none.

BW:  Now this gets to the heart of what I was saying.  That’s why we industry professionals use teleprompters.  I don’t suppose you,  a blogger with an opinion sitting at home in his pajamas has a teleprompter.

MI: Watch it mister.

BW: Do you know what I did when I got out of my shot down helicopter.

MI: You weren’t in a helicopter that was shot down.

BW: The Iraqi enemy sent me a note asking what my terms were for accepting their surrender.  I told them, “No terms except unconditional and immediate surrender can be accepted.”  After that my crew started calling me “Unconditional Surrender Williams.”

MI: That wasn’t you. That was Ulysses S. Grant at Fort Donelson.

BW: Really?  I’m sorry.  I must have conflated the events.

MI: Conflate what?  That wasn’t you.  That happened during the Civil War in 1862!

BW:Memory is a funny thing. Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They’re just an interpretation, they’re not a record, and they’re irrelevant if you have the facts.

MI: Okay, Guy Pearce said that in the movie “Memento.”  And you don’t even have the facts to begin with.

BW: If we can’t make memories, we can’t heal.

MI: Guy Pearce again.

BW: Really?  I must have conflated my brave busy life with that movie.

MI: Obviously.

BW: I am very brave in war situations. It’s like when I was addressing the Third Army during the war with the Nazis. I said “Now, some of you boys, I know, are wondering whether or not you’ll chicken-out under fire. Don’t worry about it. I can assure you that you will all do your duty. The Nazis are the enemy. Wade into them. Spill their blood. Shoot them in the belly. When you put your hand into a bunch of goo that a moment before was your best friend’s face, you’ll know what to do.”

MI: [Sigh].  Again that wasn’t  you.  That was George S. Patton.

BW: I’m sorry.  I must have conflated my life with his.

MI: [Under his breath] I’m about to conflate my fist with your face.

BW: My memory again must be faulty. But who are we to judge.  I remember once I was addressing a group of people and I told them “Judge not, that you may not be judged, For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.”  Wise words to live by.  I’m glad I thought that up.

MI: That was Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount!

BW:  Jesus? It sounds quite merciful.  Are you sure it wasn’t Mohammed?  Oh well.  I guess I must have –

MI: I am going to punch you if you say conflated one more time.  Any last words you’d like to say before I close this interview?

BW: Yes.  Tune into NBC Nighly News every night at 6:30 pm.  We report.  You decide.

MI: That’s Fox news dammit.  I’m done.  I’m out of here.

Seriously.  I think he’s conflating his ass with a hole in the ground.

Nativity Wallpaper

On behalf of our Publisher Matt Ross, our Staff, our great team of Contributors, and myself, Don King, Managing Editor we here at Conservative Hideout 2.0 want to wish you a very Merry Christmas. May you know peace and find comfort in the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us. It is at this time of year when we pause to celebrate the birth of Jesus our Lord and Saviour, so it is fitting that we revisit the story of the very first Christmas.

In the spirit of the season, with many thanks to WhyChristmas.com and WYMT of Hazard, Kentucky, here is the greatest story ever told…

The Birth of Jesus

The Story in the Bible

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Luke 2:1-7

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The History behind the Birth of Jesus in the Christmas Story
The census that was ordered by Caesar Augustus was the first of its kind. It was done because the Roman government wanted to make sure that everyone in the Empire was paying their taxes correctly. The census was carried out all over Empire (most of Europe): but in Palestine, it was carried out in a Jewish way rather than a Roman way. This meant that families had to register in the their historical tribal town rather than where they lived. This also meant that Joseph and the very pregnant Mary would have had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem, as this was town that Joseph’s family (the royal family of David) originally came from – a journey of about 70 miles (112 kilometres).
It might have been quite good for the family to go to Bethlehem as no one there knew them, so people would not have talked about the fact that they were not married. Some people think that Joseph might had family in Bethlehem, but they still wouldn’t have know Mary and Joseph very closely.
The journey would have taken about three days and they might well have arrived in the evening, because if they had arrived earlier in the day, it is more likely that they would have found somewhere to stay.
In those times, there weren’t really such things as motels or inns, you normally would have stayed with some extended family. A more accurate translation of ‘inn’ would be ‘guest room’. You would normally stay with extended family in their ‘guest room’ but as it was a busy time the guest room was already full.
Most houses would have been shared with the animals that the family kept. Houses had two levels, the upper/mezzanine level where people slept and the ground floor where the animals slept at night and the family lived during the day. The animals were a kind of ‘central heating’ at night keeping the house warm! The ‘guest room’ was often an area on the upper/mezzanine level or even a hut put on the flat roof of the house!
As many people would have traveled to Bethlehem for the census, all the houses, or certainly upper levels were full. Many people think that Jesus was probably born in September or October during Sukkot, the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, rather than during December. During the festival, Jews live outside in temporary shelters (the word ‘tabernacle’ come from a latin word meaning ‘booth’ or ‘hut’).
So Joseph and Mary probably had to sleep with the animals on the low level (where it’s common to have a manger cut into a wall where you put the animal food) or out in a stable, cave or even a covered market stall that sold animals (these stalls could be rented during tabernacles).
It was the custom in those times to wrap a new born baby very tightly in long bandages called swaddling clothes. The arms and legs of the baby were also wrapped, so they couldn’t move. This was done because they thought it helped the baby to grow strong, straight limbs! And as no proper crib was available, the new baby boy was placed in a manger, or feeding trough.
This must have been an amazing scene, but was exactly how the angels had described things to the shepherds up on the hills surrounding Bethlehem!
The birth of Jesus probably didn’t happen in the year 0AD but slightly earlier, in about 5, 6 or 7BC. The dates that we use now were set by Monks and religious leaders in the Middle Ages and before. It’s also quite likely that Jesus was actually born in the autumn (during Tabernacles), not in the winter! It can get very cold in the winter in Israel and it is thought that the census would have most likely taken place during the spring or autumn, at a time when many pilgrims, from all over the country, came to visit Jerusalem (which is about six miles from Bethlehem). Also during the winter, it’s less likely that the shepherds would have been keeping sheep out on the hills (as those hills can get quite a lot of snow during winter sometimes!).
Easter 2014: He is Risen!
Matthew 28:1-7 (New American Standard)
Jesus Is Risen!
1 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. 2 And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. 3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid ; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Pope Francis, In Nod to Conservatives, Calls Jesus “Son” of God
Share
This man has been taken prisoner by the patriachy
This man has been taken prisoner by the patriarchy
In an obvious conciliatory gesture to conservatives in the Church, Pope Francis today publicly called Jesus the “son of God.”
While Francis has often used this language in private, this is believed to be the first time he has used this phrase in public.  Vatican watchers are divided as to what the change means.
“This is a startling phrase” said the Religion editor for Rolling Stone magazine.
A phrase that many might find offensive. I would have preferred he had used the phrase “spirit of the universe.”  The fact that Pope Francis, a liberal like us, would resort to such language is troubling.  Perhaps he is simply trying to mollify conservatives and we should not read too much into it.  Or perhaps he has been taken prisoner in the Vatican.  Yes, that seems the more likely scenario. From the moment he was elected in a free and democratic process he has tried to reform the Church.  He has tried to rid it of centuries of useless dogma and beliefs.  For him to use the phrase “son of god”, in public no less, means he fears for his life.  Some of the more traditional Cardinals have obviously threatened him.  I’d pray for him myself but I’m an atheist.  Yes, I know that seems weird since I am the religion editor at Rolling Stone but the only reason they gave me that title is because I have George Harrison on my iPod.
At the Sisters Opposed to Patriarchy, the mother superior of peace is alarmed.
We used to look at him as an ally. He was going to appoint female cardinals.  He favored gay marriage.  But this?  Calling Jesus, who may or may not have existed, no one can really tell, a man?  Why couldn’t he use a less offensive term like calling Jesus the feminine teat of social justice?  This is a shot across our bow.  The patriarchy is everywhere!  You can’t hide from it!  Obviously the patriarchy at the Vatican has gotten to Pope Francis.  This makes my feminine flower garden of all delight weep.  And not in a good sense like when I’m listening to Melissa Etheridge or K.D. Lang.
In Washington it is rumored that President Obama is considering air strikes on the Vatican to free Pope Francis from the grips of conservative patriarchy.  White House press secretary Jay Carney had this to say about the crisis:
The President is monitoring the situation very carefully from the golf course. He is concerned that the Vatican may clamp down on religious freedom.  If a surgical strike becomes necessary we will first align ourselves with Muslim rebels in the Vatican. But we will not be putting boots on the ground. Except for the Muslim rebels of course.
Vatican watchers have looked for clues to the situation from Pope Francis’ Twitter account.  His last tweet was “Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin is a doofus” has many convinced that war is inevitable. Said the Republican minority leader in the Senate Mitch McConnell:
If the Democrats want to bomb the Vatican that’s okay with me.  I always do what’s best for the Democratic party.
President Obama is expected to call an emergency cabinet session to address the crisis after he finishes his 18 holes.
Jesus Isn’t Allowed in School, but Islam is …
Share
In my previous post, “Jesus is not allowed in school“, we saw the perfect example of how Christians and in particular Christian children are being bullied by the benevolent American education system. Time and again we get the “separation of church and state” line of crap. However it’s obvious that only applies to the Christian church or any mention of Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter if it’s Christmas or Easter … Christian kids are not allowed to mention the name of Christ. (for the sake of ignorant liberals: Christmas is the celebration of Christ’s birth. Easter is the celebration of Christ’s resurrection without which there is no salvation …)
Moving along here, my friend and frequent visitor Muse 1876, left a link for me. I decided to post something about it.
Via: The Christian Science Monitor
Public schools grapple with Muslim prayer
A San Diego school adjusts its schedule to accommodate Muslim worship.
When afternoon recess comes at an elementary school on the outskirts of San Diego, some students rush out for a quick game of hopscotch, while others gather in a room for Muslim worship. Like a growing number of school districts around the country, San Diego’s is changing its ways to meet the needs of its Islamic students. Here, a controversy with constitutional overtones erupted: In accommodating Muslim students, is the school unfairly promoting religion?
The school’s policy “presumes that Christians are less religious and less inspired to worship and praise the Lord and come together,” says Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute. He is asking the school district to set up special rooms where Christians can pray, too.
This outcry, and others like it from conservative commentators and attorneys, suggest that the whole matter may land in court. Potentially at issue is to what extent actions taken by a public school to accommodate special religious needs of some students might require similar allowances for other students.
For now, about 100 students in the Arabic language program at Carver Elementary School are finishing their first year under a daily schedule that gives them a 15-minute recess period in the afternoon, about an hour after lunch. Many of the students are Muslim and transferred from an Arabic-language charter school that folded. Carver Elementary revised its schedule so the students would have the option to pray at the specific times ordained by their religion, says attorney Brent North, who represents the school district. A teacher is present to watch the praying children but cannot lead or take part in the observance.
A question of faith?
Five daily prayers are “part of our fundamental faith,” explains Akram Shami, a retired bank security manager who volunteers at the Islamic Center of Southern California in Los Angeles. “We pray to God, we worship God, and we recite verses from the Koran.” One prayer is typically performed at specific times around noon or 1 p.m., depending on the time of year, although Muslims differ on the mandated prayer times.
At some public schools, students leave class momentarily or wait to pray until they get home. Mr. Shami says his faith allows prayers to be combined at a later time if necessary.
The San Diego district took special action regarding the timing of recess because “the Muslim faith requires specificity of prayer obligations … that most other religions do not,” Mr. North says. He denies reports that a new recess was added specifically to address the religious needs of the Muslim students.
“As a constitutional law attorney, I don’t care whether kids do or don’t pray in schools. I don’t care to whom or how they pray,” North says. But he adds that he does have to make sure that religious requests are treated in a neutral way.
MORE RIGHT ABOUT HERE
So, the school’s policy  ”presumes that Christians are less religious and less inspired to worship and praise the Lord and come together.”  Can you believe this line of certified b.s.? In my previous post, some Christian kid couldn’t even hand out Christmas candy cane with a benign little religious saying on it, but schools will set up rooms and special times during the day to accommodate Muslims and their prayer times.
I’m sick of liberals and these perverts in schools bullying Christian children … along with the ACLU and/or some parent who gets offended at a cross or some “Christian” symbol displayed in public schools but won’t say one word about the above piece.
I think it’s about time Christians get off their dead, complacent rear-ends and get involved. Make as much, if not more noise than the godless, the atheists and the Muslims and let the left-wing liberal freaks know we’re tired of it. I mean come on folks. What’s it going to take? There are so many Christians who are content to go to their little churches on Sunday and maybe a mid-week service and that’s it. I suppose that’s okay, but Christians need to get involved in politics to a certain extent. “Oh, I’m not interested in politics” you’ll hear them say. Well, they’d better get interested because politics and who we elect to make laws, has a direct effect on our freedom to worship as we choose. One doesn’t have to be into politics to a fault, but geez folks, get involved enough so that after Sunday service and IHop and the football game you can make a difference by getting informed and making wise choices. Until Christians do, collectively, the “Jesus isn’t allowed in school” bunch will continue and will get much worse. Stop being bullied by little weasels, because that’s all they are. Limp-wristed, panty-waist little freaks.
Hey Liberals … Jesus Was Not One Of You
Share
I’ve noticed on some liberal sites where the writers claim that Jesus was a liberal. That Jesus did more “liberal acts” during his ministry than anyone else in the history of the world. Whatever that’s supposed to mean. Let’s see just how “liberal” Jesus Christ really was …
Did he steal from the rich … or did he simply persuade them to give what they had over and above their need to the poor?
Did he recommend abortions to pregnant women?
Did Jesus advocate killing babies?
Did he use the poor for financial gain?
Jesus regarded the poor, but said time spent with him was more important because there will always be poor people.
When Jesus dined with sinners did he partake of the sin … or did he say “go and sin no more”?
Did Jesus ever once suggest that the government take care of the poor?
Did Jesus ever once suggest that the government do anything for the people?
Jesus mocked liberals. I believe he used the term “whited sepulchres”.  Didn’t he condemn hypocrites? Those who claim to know God but don’t obey his commandments.
Jesus was compassionate and giving … of himself … not of other people’s things.
I read once where a liberal actually wrote that Jesus was well-off financially.  Remember that is the liberal mind-set. I guess they never read in the Bible where Jesus said he didn’t even have a place to lay his head.
I also read once where a liberal was mocking a Christian man with several children who fell on hard times and needed help. He mocked the guy because he was a conservative and believed in making his way in life for himself and his family, but he needed some assistance. I asked the liberal gentleman if he offered to help the guy in any way. The liberal answered, “No, I didn’t like the guy or what he stood for.”  Now, I’m paraphrasing because I don’t remember verbatim the exchange, but that was the gist of it.
The next time you read the hypocritical, arrogant writings of some self-righteous liberal who refuses to humble himself to  God but has to create a god that is like unto him … run like the wind. These people are stumbling blocks who defile the Word of God.
I know how this sounds and if you think this is harsh then comment accordingly because I make no apologies for writing the truth.  I suggest however you read the Bible in its entirety, not just picking out the “love” scriptures. But also regard the scriptures about justice, judgement, repentance, and living a life acceptable in the eyes of God.  God is love and he says, “those who say they love me but keep not my commandments are … ” What are they?  If you guess “liars” you guessed correctly.  You can walk around all starry-eyed with a grin on your face all day long but if you’re living a sinful, immoral, perverse life …. you need to repent, go and sin no more.
Christmas 2013
Share
Merry Christmas!  Here is the reason for the season, so to speak…
2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2:2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
2:3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
2:6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
2:12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
2:16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
2:17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
2:18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
2:20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Have a great Christmas!
Christianity and Social Justice, a False Comparison Re-Revisited
Share
There has been, in my opinion, a monstrous perversion of Christian teachings.  In order to promote Marxism, a variety of of Christian organizations and denominations have been infiltrated and influenced to promote an anti-Christian message- “social (in)justice.”   Many evangelical groups and the Catholic Church support it as well.   Just take a moment to let that thought percolate.  Would Jesus support Marxism?  Would he support a system that is openly resistant to any God but the state?  Mind you that social justice is nothing more than Marxism renamed, so I have a difficult time accepting that Jesus will support it.  It is neither social, nor just; it is simply the screwing down of everyone, outside the ruling elite, to the same level of government dependency/.
What I do know is that the Bible encourages charity in both Old and New Testaments.  Here’s a random selection of verses.
Deuteronomy 15:7
If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother.
Leviticus 25:35
‘If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you.
Psalm 37:25-26
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed.
Psalm 41:1-2
Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
Matthew 6:1-4
“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
2 Corinthians 9:7
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
1 Timothy 6:17-18
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
I will openly admit that I am by no means a theologian.  But what I gather is that charity is to be something personal.  God clearly wants us to be kind to the less fortunate.  I also think that he wants is to do that ourselves.  Note the verses from Matthew and 2 Corinthians; they seem to suggest that not only should giving be an individual decision-without coercion, but is should also be done in an anonymous manner.  Additionally, charity not only improves the status of the poor, but improves the condition of the giver’s soul.  Basically, it is good for all, and pleasing to God.
Let’s contrast that with the concept of social justice.  Essentially, the government, an agent of force, will confiscate from some, and give it to others (after wasting the majority of it in DC).  That, and the way in which it is done usually creates more of the problem it was meant to alleviate.  In a spiritual sense, how does being legally robbed by the government improve your soul, or you as a person?  How does a confiscatory policy help you please your God?  Can giving be defined as charity if you have no choice?  I don’t recall Jesus holding a gun to someone’s head, but Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro and Che certainly did, and in millions of cases, their minions pulled the trigger.
To me, the answer is simple.  Government taxation is NOT charity.  It does nothing for the “giver,” and, as history shows, we spent a trillion dollars in the “War on Poverty,” and ended up with more poor people!  I guess our government purchased a trillion dollars worth of poverty. No one bothers to mention that in the war on poverty, poverty won.  And, in fact, the government’s efforts helped poverty win, and will continue to do so.
Was that what Jesus had in mind?
Go forth, and pay people to not work.  Penalize them for being married.  And pay the more for having babies outside of marriage.  And, if they try and work to feed themselves, penalize them so sharply that they will give up.  Oh, and make sure democrats control education so they’ll never learn enough to escape you.  Do these things, and you will achieve social justice!
I somehow doubt that this is what the Lord had in mind.
Jesus is not a Liberal … He is Genuinely Compassionate
Share
The Conservative Hideout is proud to introduce Steve, who blogs at Cry and Howl, as a new contributor. This is his first post here at the Conservative Hideout.-Matt
Okay, before you read this post, know I used some “colorful” language and I wanted to caution my Christian readers.
“a proud look”
obama-proud2
Whoa! It seems like some liberals got their panties in a wad over my previous post. One liberal states that conservatives cut the food stamp program by $40 Billion. Sigh … dear liberal, pull your head out of your ass. If you can, you just might find the fact of the matter that your beloved gawd, Barack Obama cut the “food stamp program”  (SNAP) to fund his wife’s Child Nutrition farce.  HERE and HERE are the facts regardless of his/her asinine claim. Oh, and while your head is out of your ass temporarily, Republicans and conservatives are not the same.
A liberal also replaced his worn tampon for a fresh one and said something like 1.3 million “desperate unemployed” folks could use their unemployment benefits extended. First off, the vast majority of those “desperate unemployed” have Barack to thank for not having a job. Next, the liberal doesn’t state how many of these folks have been on unemployment for 99 weeks … what … 2 years? Maybe we should just have perpetual unemployment, because Obama is filling up the United States with illegals which will make it much more difficult for the unemployed to get any kind of work. Heck, let’s just stop working altogether and put everyone on unemployment … maybe the liberals could pay everyone out of the kindness of their bleeding hearts. Oh wait! That would be using their own money, if you notice not one suggestion is using their own to help the poor folks.  Typical liberal, rely on the government for everything.
One pile of ass made probably the most offensive and arrogant claims that Jesus was a liberal. That he was “tolerant”, “inclusive”, “progressive” and “open-minded”. Folks, I’m delighted and honored to say that is a bare-faced lie. That is exactly what the Psalmist David described in the 50th psalm that wicked and corrupt people attempt to make God to be like unto what they are.  Let’s check it out and see how God feels about being compared to a “liberal” …
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee.
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
No folks, God is not tolerant to sin, wickedness or perversion.  Oh, and while we’re at it let’s take a look at some things that God hates, and you’ll be happy to know that God, Jesus isn’t liberal …
These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Hmmm … “a proud look”? “a lying tongue”? “hands that shed innocent blood”?  Aren’t those liberal characteristics?
I mean, why don’t we consider the liar of the year?  And while we’re at it, I have a question: Who could be more innocent than an unborn or newborn baby? I can’t think of anyone more deserving of compassion and the opportunity of life than these. Can you? “Hands that shed innocent blood” … I’m kind of wondering if the abortionist and pro-abortion folks fit in this category? Well no, I’m not wondering, because I know they do. Anyone who will snip a baby’s spinal cord, advocate murdering children in the womb, leave new-born children in a closet to starve has … ‘hands that shed innocent blood’.  I make no apologies for the truth.
Liberals only talk, demean, belittle and berate. They say and write things to make themselves feel good. They accuse others of exactly what they are to keep the truth from shining on themselves.  I saw a while back where one mind-less Obama worshipper claimed “conservatives have abortions too.”  I’m happy to disappoint him/her … no they don’t. If they ever did, they weren’t conservatives at the time. They listened to a liberal and have to live with that irresponsible, asinine, lie the rest of their lives. Fortunately,  God is a God of compassion and He is just and “will not at all acquit the wicked”. (Nahum 1:3)
I’m sorry Mr., Ms. Liberal … compassion isn’t about government and how to spend or give away another person’s money. Compassion is a matter of the heart. It’s a matter of not just the giving of money, but time, attention, opportunity and ministering to the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the less fortunate. It’s about helping others to help themselves, creating in themselves self-worth and self-value, helping them get to the point where they also can help others.
The typical liberal mind-set about what compassion is … keep people poor, keep them down, keep them dependent … give them just enough to stay exactly where they are.
Christians Need Not Apply: Military Ramps up Persecution Against Christians
Share
In this age of increased persecution against Christians, think it should come as no surprise that more and more cases of people being fired or punished for their beliefs should come to light.  Earlier this year, it became “illegal” for  Christian to share one’s faith in the military.  Now, it seems that even being a Christian is a crime.  Take a look at the following below.
Technical Sgt. Layne Wilson, a 27 year veteran of the Utah Air National Guard, was reprimanded for his opposition to a homosexual wedding in the West Point chapel. In fact, he was told to retire because his personal views were incompatible with military policy. How have things changed since Mr. Obama became commander in chief? Simple–liberals have become more intolerant than ever. If you disagree with the aberrant behavior displayed by a White House-preferred small group, you can kiss your military career goodbye. Commanding officers will be more than glad to obey their ring-tapping superiors by enforcing the mandatory acceptance of perversions. TSgt Wilson’s crime? Being Christian.
Master Sgt. Nathan Sommers, a 25-year Army veteran, received an article 15 reprimand for his political and religious beliefs. He was being prosecuted by an openly gay officer. His crime: being Christian. According to the latest report, MSG Sommers is planning to file a discrimination lawsuit.
John Wells, the attorney representing TSgt Wilson, told Fox News: “The military is trying to make examples of people who have religious beliefs that homosexual conduct in the military is wrong.” “The end game is to force conservative Christians out of the military.”
Of course, we’ve read the Book, and know that this kid of thing is coming.  But, there seems to be a concerted effort to rid the military services of long standing leaders, and especially Christians.  I know the left has never trusted the military.  The military always votes to the right, which is why the Democrats always try to find ways to throw out their votes.   In a time of trouble, the left has never thought that the men and women in uniform would act against the public.  My many conversations with former military personnel show me this.  However, what if the Obama Administration were to remake the military into something more to his idealogical liking?  What if he could re-mold the military into something that would do his bidding, and would hate Christians, Jews, and anyone who believed in the Constitution?  What if he created a military that was trained that belief in the Constitution made for “dangerous radicals,” or that belief in the Bible made one an “extremist?”
Perhaps he wants a military capable of doing this…
Makes one think, doesn’t it?
And, just as a reminder…
18 “If the world hates you, just remember that it has hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, then the world would love you as its own. But I chose you from this world, and you do not belong to it; that is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: “Slaves are not greater than their master.’ If people persecuted me, they will persecute you too; if they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours too. 21 But they will do all this to you because you are mine; for they do not know the one who sent me.
Gay Rights and #FreeKate Supporter Calls for “Final Solution” Against Christians
Share
Since the mainline gay rights crowd has pulled support for #FreeKate, the alleged sex offender, Kaitlyn Hunt,  has been supported by the kookier side of that m0vement.  Case in point is @QueerSpring2013. He/she/it  is so filled with “tolerance and diversity” that everyone who disagrees with he/she/it must go to the “showers.”  The Other McCain has more…
Donald Douglas has ever more over at his place…
American Power_Homosexual Rights Activist Calls for Final Solution to the Christian Problem_20130622-140529
Now, believe it or not, to the leftist, this is tolerance.  Because, you see, tolerance means that only regressive ideas are tolerated.  If you depart from the regressive line, or worse yet, like that Jesus guy, you are open to attacks, smears, or deserve death.  You know, tolerance!
But here is something a bit more interesting.  We’ve seen liberals, regressives, socialists, (whatever you want to call them) make threats to exterminate people all the time.  It’s a deep part of their ideology.  But,  there is a hidden irony to this story.  You see, some of the comments regarding death and such are regarding Jeanette Victoria.   Victoria, who goes by the name of Jeanette Runyon, was “exposed” by a liberal website as having a criminal background.  In 2011, that liberal website  did some things that sounds awfully familiar:  They published her mugshot, as well as her arrest affidavit.  And, they had every right to do so.  It’s public information, and it’s therefore fair game.
That does sound rather familiar, doesn’t it? When this site, (and not to leave out The Other McCain) published that exact same information regarding #FreeKate, it proved that the Hunt family was lying about the ages of the victim and that of  alleged sexual offender Kaitlyn Hunt.  And my, that was described a libelous.  It was said to be hateful, and, of course, for the “sin” of pointing out the uncomfortable truth in this matter, @QueerSpring2013 wants us to go to the ovens.
I guess it’s just one of those things that are OK when tolerant leftists do it.
Come to think of it, does @QueerSpring2013 ever explain why they support adults having sex with children?  I’d be real interested to hear that.
UPDATE:  I have heard from Jeanette Victoria, who states that she was never arrested, but the affidavit shown at the liberal site was used to search her home.  Additional legwork finds an interview on a site about surrogacy.  That, and the mugshot shown at the liberal site appears only there.  Image searches for “Jeanette T Runyon” mug shot shows no other corroboration  of the liberal site’s claims.  The liberal site also lists additional arrests, but again, there are no links to news stories or public information site for these claims, so I can little more on the subject.
Will the Military Court Martial Christians That Share Their Faith?
Share
There are disturbing reports circulating that if a Christian shares their faith, they could be subject Court Martial and punishment under military law.  Breitbart has more…
The Pentagon has released a statement confirming that soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their faith: “Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense…Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis…”.
The statement, released to Fox News, follows a Breitbart News report on Obama administration Pentagon appointees meeting with anti-Christian extremist Mikey Weinstein to develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith.
(From our earlier report: Weinstein is the head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and says Christians–including chaplains–sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the military are guilty of “treason,” and of committing an act of “spiritual rape” as serious a crime as “sexual assault.” He also asserted that Christians sharing their faith in the military are “enemies of the Constitution.”)
This would represent another great victory in the war on Jesus waged by the political left, and the Obama administration.  While I am hoping that this is not as serious as it looks, I have to consider how the left, and other statists operate.  Tyrannical regimes all over the planet see religion, and particularly, Christianity, as competition to be eliminated.  In the mother of all nanny states, the government is “god.”  And the nanny god is a jealous one, and there is no room for other loyalties.  It’s also about hope.  Christianity is a hope based religion.  If you follow, if you repent, and if you work towards God’s kingdom, you will be rewarded with everlasting life in paradise.  That is intolerable for the left.  To them, Jesus is competition, and makes for a disloyal drone.  So, Jesus has to go.
Of course, this is predictable…
18 “If the world hates you, just remember that it has hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, then the world would love you as its own. But I chose you from this world, and you do not belong to it; that is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: “Slaves are not greater than their master.’ If people persecuted me, they will persecute you too; if they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours too. 21 But they will do all this to you because you are mine; for they do not know the one who sent me.
Army Orders Bible References Scraped From Equipment
Share
It would seem that the Obama Military’s war on Christianity continues.  All references to the Bible and God must be removed, so even weapons must be sanitized.  Reagan Coalition has more…
From Opposing Views:
The US Army has ordered troops in Fort Wainwright, Alaska to completely remove Bible verses from their weapon scopes.
The official order reads, “In accordance with included instructions remove the biblical reference from the indicated area of the M150RCO/ACOG. This biblical reference will include, but not be limited to JN8:12 and 2COR4:6.”
These two engravings refer to John 8:12 and Second Corinthians 4:6. The two verses respectively read, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” and “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”
When Obama gives a speech, and prominent Christian symbols must be covered, and now, Obama’s military is erasing all evidence of the Bible, and particularly Jesus.  Come to think of it, what does this administration have against Jesus?
Itinerant Preacher Abandons Class Struggle
Share
Ye Old New York Times.  All the  news that's fit for socialism
Ye Old New York Times. All the news that’s fit for socialism
Dateline, Jerusalem.  33 A.D. Ye Olde New Yorke Times
An itinerant preacher by the name of Jesus abandoned all efforts to raise the standard of living of Judea’s poor by going back to his father.
Jesus was subject to the death penalty over the weekend for repeatedly calling for those in the Roman occupation to provide jobs and training for the oppressed Palestinians.
We here at Ye Olde New Yorke Times have been following Jesus’ career closely from the first moment he burst onto the scene. allying himself with fellow socialist John the baptist and calling for public works projects, “Prepare the way of the Lord.  Make straight his paths.”
From the beginning we supported him and felt that he could possibly be the “one” who could help Judea overthrow their oppressors.  For we at Ye Olde New Yorke Times have always been sensitive to the plight of the poor.
We were drawn particularly to his message of redistribution of wealth, “Blessed are the meek.  They shall possess the land” and higher taxes for the wealthy, “Give to Caesar that which is Caesar’s”
His message of social justice “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst, for they shall have their fill” we felt could have inspired the Roman government to open soup kitchens and youth clubs in the inner city.
Jesus was also concerned about the devastation that global warming was causing our globe and his call for an “Earth hour” where everyone goes dark was truly revolutionary, “Neither do men light a candle….”
Jesus was concerned over the increase in so-called “superstorms” caused by the aforementioned global warming, “”And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house.”
Debt forgiveness in third world nations such as Judea is a cause we at Ye Olde New Yorke Times support and we were encouraged by Jesus’ plea for capitalists to forgive those who owe them money, “And forgive us our debts.”
Like we at Ye Olde New Yorke Times Jesus was opposed to the death penalty, “Thou shalt not kill.”  Though he did not specifically mention the high number of Jewish youth currently languishing on death row in Roman prisons we are confident that he would agree with us that poverty in Judea causes crime.
Jesus also supported the prior claims of the state over the family, “No man can serve two masters.”  This we support.  A true socialist state will never come into being if we allow the nuclear family to preach values contrary to the state.
He supported a healthy diet, “By their fruits you shall know them.”  We feel that a return to such a healthy diet will end the epidemic of obesity in the Roman Empire.
For all the above reasons and more we felt that Jesus could have become an important political voice for the progressive cause.
Instead he chose to abandon his followers, or as he said, “My kingdom is not of this world.”
While disappointed in the turn of events we here at Ye Olde New Yorke Times will not abandon the progressive cause.
Perhaps Barabbas can now take up a leadership position in the movement?
He is Risen
Matthew 28:1-7 (New American Standard)
Jesus Is Risen!
1 Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. 2 And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. 3 And his appearance was  like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.  5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid ; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. 7 “Go quickly and tell  His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee,there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.” 8 And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His  disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His  feet and worshipped  Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid ; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there  they will see Me.” 11 Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the  chief priests all that had happened. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave  a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His  disciples came by night and stole Him  away while we were asleep.’
He is risen indeed.  If not for the resurrection, Jesus would be just another teacher, and the world would have wallowed in darkness forever.  And now, while many would have us wallow in that terrible darkness, we have the hope of salvation, and ever lasting life.  There are dark days coming, and once again Easter reminds us of Christ’s victory over evil and the grave.  Those are victories that he shares with us freely.  And while evil grows all around us, we should hold on to the hope that the resurrection provides.  Basically, we know how this goes; the good guys win in the end.  It’s in the book.
Nurses Fight to Not Take Lives, Win Suit to not Participate in Abortion
Share
fascist friday
The story is nearly two years old, but increasingly relevant in the age of ObamaCare.  Imagine that you are a nurse, and your employer mandates that you take part in abortions, and kill babies.  And, if you refuse to kill babies, you will be fired.  And, they persist, even though state and federal law protect you from being forced to kill babies.
Laws are not, Christians are going to be facing more and persecution such as this.   And frankly, look for the laws protecting conscience to be repealed.  Whenever God and the secular world meet, the secular world, and it’s boss, is going to try and punish anyone who is devoutly following Jesus.  As it is said, what is good will be put up as evil, and what is evil will be put up as being good.  It’s only going to get worse.
