I’ve often noted that while liberal love to ban things, like guns, God, the Bible, large soda’s, and salt shakers. They are just as apt to make the targeted item so expensive that that only a few people can afford them. Typically, the people able to afford said items will be themselves, and their donors/supporters. Of course, de-facto gun control could be achieved by that same means. For the latest example of that, let’s go to Gateway Pundit… A bill proposed by New York Democrat Felix Ortiz will force gun owners to carry one million dollars in liability insurance. Guns [...]
I think we might be seeing a coordinated effort to make criminals out of law abiding citizens. For the set up, Gateway Pundit has more… THIS IS AN ORGANIZED NATIONAL EFFORT FOLKS…… This is not a coincidence. It is a concerted effort. Missouri Democrats are pushing a bill to confiscate guns giving gun owners 90 days to turn in their weapons. Minnesota Democrats are pushing the same bill. Dana Loesch has more details. Here is the language: 4. Any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity [...]
What happens when you turn law abiding citizens into criminals? In some cases, they refuse to play along with their new role. For an example, check out the following video, via American Thinker… When rights are taken away, and citizens are turned into criminals by legislative fiat, there will be eventual resistance. In a sense, governments are setting down a showdown with the citizens whose rights are to be protected by government. Instead, the state is setting up a situation in which not only are they stripping people of their rights, but the government will eventually have to deprive those [...]
We’ve talked about taxes quite a bit here. We covered that when Maryland passed a special tax on millionaires, one third of their millionaires disappeared, and the state ended up losing money. When NY passed oppressive cigarette taxes, New Yorkers found ways to evade it, and the state missed their income projections by several country miles. And, we covered that the early 90′s luxury tax cost tens of thousands of jobs, and then the government ended up paying more for unemployment benefits than they collected in revenue. In short, tax increases kill jobs, and result in the creation of new [...]
We Americans are a rebellious lot, and we definitely do not like being told that we cannot do something. This fine tradition rears it’s head whenever the nanny state passes a new and more odious edict. New Yorkers are no different, and seem to be waging a war against the smoking ban in that city. Reason TV, via Big Government highlights this in a recent video… As you can see, particularly in the case of the retired cop, New Yorkers are not taking kindly to this, and nanny staters like Bloomberg should be aware of that. Of course, the mafia already, and I have [...]
For the latest on Hurricane Irene, here is the radar image for the Northeast at approximately 1:15 AM. As you can see, much of Eastern Pennsylvania is in Irene’s outer bands. As the morning continues, the storm will make it’s closest approach to NY City. And, as you might guess, the CH 2.0 bunker is under that blotchy yellow and red. We’re getting some wind gusts, and some steady rain, but we have power, and the Direct TV is working about 1/2 the time. As the day unfolds, we’re getting some ideas about the scope of the storm, as well [...]
Here is the latest on Hurricane Irene… Here is what happened about 3 hours ago when Irene hit the Outer Banks of NC… It appears that NY is still under threat from this storm. After that, New England. Since Hurricane Irene will be striking towards New York City, and then further north into New England, it’s worth taking a look at another notable storm that hit the same area. Before Hurricanes were given names, a killer storm hit that area in 1938. Here is some newsreel footage, via the Wall Street Journal… Here is another video. It is much longer, with more extensive footage of the disaster. However, the entire second half is a propaganda piece for the New Deal Era WPA. Obviously there are two significant differences between then and now. One is that Irene is not [...]
Hurricane Irene continues of it’s course to strike the East Coast of the United States. Here is the latest from the Weather Channel… Here is the time frames for Irene’s impacts… More later. Apparently, raising taxes on tobacco products is falling out of favor with state governments… According to Patrick Gleason, director of state affairs for the conservative Americans for Tax Reform, tobacco has not been the revenue boon states that have increased cigarette taxes had hoped. “The lack of interest in raising tobacco taxes this year can be attributed to the fact that tobacco taxes have indisputably proven to be a dubious and declining source of revenue,” Gleason told TheDC. “From 2003-2007, 16 of 59 tobacco tax hikes fell short of revenue projections.” Here in Washington D.C., for example, the city’s 2009 [...]
I actually watched this video the other day and it’s a great example of the choke hold unions have on our free market system. Now this won’t come as a surprise to many of my readers because since Obama won in 2008 unions have become much bolder in their actions to drive out any competition that threatens their power. Some of the arguments they make in favor of preventing Walmart from entering into their communities are absolutely absurd and don’t match the facts. Check out the below video. As I said the arguments against Walmart are absolutely absurd. I mean [...]
