gun free zone restaurant robbed in nc

North Carolina restaurant The Pit was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday. Normally, local crime stories like this wouldn’t merit a Townhall post, but this one is different: The Pit has a “no weapons” sign displayed prominently on its door declaring the restaurant a gun-free zone, and bans patrons from carrying concealed weapons.

Authorities said just before 9 p.m. Sunday, three men wearing hoodies entered the restaurant through the back doors with pistols, and forced several staff members to lie on the floor.

The bandits assaulted two employees during the crime, but they were not seriously injured.

What groups like Everytown for Gun Safety or Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America seem to have an issue grasping is that criminals have no respect for the law by nature of being criminals. Criminals aren’t going to be stopped by a “no guns allowed” sign. If somebody is going to rob or shoot up a Chipotle, for instance, they’re not going to care that they cannot (or have been politely asked not to) bring a gun onto the premises. Criminals are not going to submit to background checks. They’ll use straw purchases or just buy a gun from an illegal source. All these policies and laws do is make it harder for legal gun owners to protect themselves.

While I am thankful nobody was hurt, this certainly harms the narrative that “gun free” places are safe places.

Yes, I know the pic is photoshopped, I think it's funny.
Yes, I know the pic is photoshopped, I think it’s funny.

In one of the largest examples of voter fraud discovered thus-far, the NC Board of Elections has announced that is has found nearly 35,000 examples of voter fraud in the 2012 election.  Here is more on the voter fraud, that liberals state does not occur…

Initial findings from the Board presented to the Joint Legislative Elections Oversight Committee today show:

  • 765 voters with an exact match of first and last name, DOB and last four digits of SSN were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in N.C. and the other state in the 2012 general election.
  • 35,750 voters with the same first and last name and DOB were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in both states in the 2012 general election.
  • 155,692 voters with the same first and last name, DOB and last four digits of SSN were registered in N.C. and another state – and the latest date of registration or voter activity did not take place within N.C.

Additionally, an audit of death records from the Department of Health and Human Services, revealed:

  • 50,000 new death records that had not previously been provided to the State Board of Elections.
  • 13,416 deceased voters on the voter rolls in October 2013.
  • 81 deceased voters that had voter activity after they died.
To repeat, according to liberals, voter fraud not happen, and you are probably racist for knowing that it did.
Just sayin.

Woman Defends Herself with Firearm: National Media Silent

Here is another story that the media will completely ignore.  It seem that two would be home invaders found themselves confronted by a Elm City, North Carolina, woman who was more than willing to defend herself with a firearm.  Girls Just Wanna Have Guns has the story…

The homeowner, a female of an unknown age, was hiding in the closet when 18-year-old Christopher Devonte Joseph approached her.  The local ABC news report stated that’s when the owner fired her gun and shot the 18-year-old.  Both suspects fled the scene, but Christopher was found 300 feet from the home and I imagine it’s because he was badly wounded.

“The other suspect, 16-year-old Michael Daquarius Bynum, fled into a wooded area and was eventually located and arrested. He’s being held on a $25,000 bond.”

At the end of the news story, I read that the homeowner “would not face any charges.”  Now as “no duh” as it may seem that she would not face charges, this woman could have very well been sued and even spent some prison time for defending her life.

Of course, the liberals would state that she was supposed to be disarmed for the convenience of the home invaders.  It’s better for the narrative as well.  It’s better when defenceless citizens are threatened.  That way, they’ll happily exchange even more freedom for the illusion of security.

This is another story that shows the truth about firearms:  That they save more lives than they take.  Kindly spread it around!

Voting Machines in North Carolina Register Romney Votes for Obama

What happens when you go to vote for Romney, but your vote get’s registered for Obama?  Well, it has happened in North Carolina, and Lonely Conservative has the background…

In Guilford County, NC some voters have complained that when they chose Mitt Romney for president on electronic voting machines the votes came up for President Obama. One woman tried three times and it kept happening. Election officials say it was just a glitch that’s been corrected, but if you vote on this sort of machine I’d be sure to double check that your vote is counted properly.

The presidential election is just around the corner and voting issues have already become a problem in Guilford County.

On Monday, several voters complained that their electronic ballot machine cast the wrong vote.  All the complaints were made by people who voted at the Bur-Mil Park polling location.

One of the voters, Sher Coromalis, says she cast her ballot for Governor Mitt Romney, but every time she entered her vote the machine defaulted to President Obama.

“I was so upset that this could happen,” said Coromalis.

Guilford County Board of Elections Director George Gilbert says the problem arises every election. It can be resolved after the machine is re-calibrated by poll workers.

“It’s not a conspiracy it’s just a machine that needs to be corrected,” Gilbert said.

After the third try, Coromalis says she was able to get her vote counted for Gov. Romney but was still annoyed. (Read More)

And, as the Lonely Conservative does point out, there are no reports of Obama votes being changed to Romney votes.   I’ll keep watching this story for developments.

Unions Boycotting Democratic Convention?

Barak Obama, as POTUS, has a history of telling supporters, either in words or actions, to STFU.  The latest example is that of the unions.  Stacey McCain has more…

Ken Binversie at explains:

North Carolina has a Democratic governor, Bev Perdue, and sent its electoral votes to Barack Obama in 2008, but it’s still a right-to-work state. That means employees in the Tar Heel State are free to choose to join a union — or not. Because of this, North Carolina has the lowest percentage of union membership in the nation, just 2.9 percent as of 2011. . . .
[L]abor looks at the convention — with delegates staying in non-union hotels and dining at non-union restaurants, and Obama accepting his nomination at a football stadium built with non-union workers — as a poke in the eye. As a result, many in labor will boycott the convention outright. The AFL-CIO, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Laborers International Union of North America and others have withheld an estimated $10 million in contributions that would have helped pay for the convention — a radical change from 2008, when unions helped pitch in more than $8 million to help the DNC pay for its national convention in Denver.

So, the Democrats, who are supposedly so copacetic with big labor, are holding their convention in a state that allows people to CHOOSE whether or not they want to join a union.  Of course, as we all know, the only real choice allowed by Democrats and unions is for a woman to kill a baby, particularly if that baby happens to be black.  So having a convention in a state where workers have actual rights is a slap in the face to the union bosses, who usually send money to democratic politicians, as well as send goons to intimate the locals.

Of course, now the union bosses are looking up at the chassis of the bus, and they aren’t too happy about it.

I’m starting to wonder which is worse, being Obama’s enemy, or his friend?

Hurricane Irene Update: 8-23-11

Well, storm tracks show Irene going a bit farther east, but it still appears that the eastern seaboard is going to get hit.  Of particular concern is the northeast, where there has already been a great deal of rain.  Here is some more info from FOX…

Quick Hits: Problems Already Emerging with Voting

There have been two reports today that I found to be intriguing.  It seems that some people are having a rather difficult time voting for Republicans.

For the first, let’s take a look at Nevada, where Harry Reid is trying to fend off Sharron Angle.

The coverage is from Fox 5.

LAS VEGAS — Some voters in Boulder City complained on Monday that their ballot had been cast before they went to the polls, raising questions about Clark County’s electronic voting machines.

Voter Joyce Ferrara said when they went to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, her Democratic opponent, Sen. Harry Reid’s name was already checked.

Ferrara said she wasn’t alone in her voting experience. She said her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

“Something’s not right,” Ferrara said. “One person that’s a fluke. Two, that’s strange. But several within a five minute period of time — that’s wrong.”

Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said there is no voter fraud, although the issues do come up because the touch-screens are sensitive. For that reason, a person may not want to have their fingers linger too long on the screen after they make a selection at any time.

“Especially in a community with elderly citizens (they have) difficulty in (casting their) ballot,” Lomax said. “Team leaders said there were complaints (and the) race filled in.”

At any time, voters can go back on the screen and review their selections. They are also allowed to make changes and encouraged to double-check their ballot on screen and on paper before it is cast.

What makes this situation all the more intriguing is that the tecnicians that deal with the voting machines are members of the SEIU.  Mark Hemingway of the Washington Examiner has this…

Now there’s absolutely no independently verified evidence of chicanery with the voting machines (yet), but it is worth noting that the voting machine technicians in Clark County are members of the Service Employees International Union. The SEIU spent $63 million in elections in 2008 and is planning on spending $44 million more this election cycle — nearly all of that on Democrats. White House political director Patrick Gaspard is formerly the SEIU’s top lobbyist, and former SEIU president Andy Stern was the most frequent visitor to the White House last year.

Mr. Hemingway also has a copy of the union contract with his article.

The second incident is from North Carolina, from the Sun Journal.

A Craven County voter says he had a near miss at the polls on Thursday when an electronic voting machine completed his straight-party ticket for the opposite of what he intended.

Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. He cleared the screen and tried again with the same result, he said. Then he asked for and received help from election staff.

“They pushed it twice and the same thing happened,” Laughinghouse said. “That was four times in a row. The fifth time they pushed it and the Republicans came up and I voted.”

M. Ray Wood, Craven County Board of elections chairman, issued a written statement saying that the elections board is aware of isolated issues and that in each case the voter was able to cast his or her ballot as desired.

Chuck Tyson, chairman of Craven County GOP, remains skeptical. He has been communicating with Wood about the issue and was invited to a meeting Wednesday with state elections officials. There were no further details about that meeting.

“Something is not right here,” Tyson told the Sun Journal. He said he “got two or three calls” from people describing the same problem while they were voting.

“I’ll be matter of fact, I didn’t find that press release satisfactory,” Tyson said, referring to Wood’s written statement.

Tyson reported other problems as well, including long lines waiting for just two voting machines in Havelock, and machines reporting 250 ballots cast where 400 voters had signed in to vote.

Now, there are always technical problems with any election.  It happens.  We can’t yet say that there is any attempted fraud.  However, when people have similar problems in different parts of the country, it tends to raise a stench.  I wouldn’t recommend that people panic, or get discouraged and refuse to vote.  Actually, if there is some criminal activity going on, it might be, in part, to discourage people.    Instead, go out and vote, report any problems to the local election authorities, and talk to the media, or your friendly local Conservative Blogger.
