We’re use to bias and distortions from a variety of sources. The lastest example comes from the San Diego area, where the former PR man for that area’s Tea Party group was arrested and charged with rape, among other offences. Now, we’ve been covering the multitude of rapes at Occupy camps, which have largely been ignored by the MSM, and have been denied, minimized, or explained away by the occupods and their allies. Let’s tale a look at the early coverage of this recent event, and see what it suggests. First up, let’s take a look at coverage from Alan Colmes Liberaland…
Michael John Kobulnicky, the public relations director for the San Diego Tea Party, was arrested Thursday (via PoliticusUSA).
According to East County Magazine, Michael John Kobulnicky is accused of offering a woman a ride on February 25, but instead of taking her home, he drove to secluded island, pulled the victim out of the vehicle, sexually assaulted her, and left her in the sand. San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown said, “He dragged her out of the car and sexually assaulted her pretty brutally.”
This appears, on the surface, to be a straightforward report. However, Mr. Colmes leaves out an important detail-that the accused is a FORMER PR director for the San Diego Tea Party. For documentation of that, let’s see some content from the local NBC affiliate…
Michael Kobulnicky was booked into San Diego Central Jail on numerous felony charges, including kidnapping, sexual assault and sex with a foreign object.
A statement from the San Diego Tea Party said Kabulnicky has been on haitus since January for personal reasons and has been relieved from his Tea Party duties during legal proceedings.
“Our hearts and our thoughts go out to the victim,” read the statement.
That’s an important differentiation to make, and it’s from a local, dinosaur media outlet, so perhaps they engaged in what Limbaugh would call, ” a random act of journalism.”
Let’s contrast that with the actions of OWS:
1. Victims have come forward.
2. There have been arrests.
3. Vitictms have stated that the OWS leadership told them NOT to report the rapes to the police.
The New York Post reports (hat tip: @VelvetHammer):
Wall Street protesters in Zuccotti Park battened down the hatches yesterday as the early October snow turned their tents into igloos, but the close quarters also made easy pickings for one predator.
A sex fiend barged into a woman’s tent and sexually assaulted her at around 6 a.m., said protesters, who chased him from the park.
“Pervert! Pervert! Get the f–k out!” said vigilante Occupiers, who never bothered to call the cops.
“They were shining flashlights in his face and yelling at him to leave,” said a woman who called herself Leslie, but refused to give her real name.
She said that weeks earlier another woman was raped.
“We don’t tell anyone,” she said. “We handle it internally. I said too much already.”
I don’t have to tell you how troubling this is, not to mention disgusting – especially the fact that there is an apparent “no snitch” policy (sometimes written, sometimes unwritten) at the bigger city “Occupy” movements – including right here in Charlotte. This is dangerous, especially for women seeing as their are more and more reports leaking out about alleged sexual assaults and rapes at Occupy camps across America.
4. OWS has allowed accused rapists to return to encampments…
Last week, Tonye Iketubosin, a Zuccotti protester arrested on rape charges and was released on bail in November, posed an issue for the protesters when he signed up at St. Paul and St. Andrew. When he was recognized, several protesters met to deliberate whether he should allowed to stay, said Jeffrey Brewer, a protester handling housing issues. They ultimately decided he could stay that night, as long as security monitored him, Mr. Brewer said. Mr. Iketubosin and his attorney couldn’t be reached.
5. OWS makes the typical claim, that the rapists (and other criminal elements) don’t actually belong, or that they are infiltrators, or something like that.
Of course, I don’t expect Mr .Colmes to be unbiased, no more than I can be held to that. We’re both have taken sides, and have stated that openly. But, I would expect him to state the whole case, not just the details that suit his view. The accused rapist isn’t active with the local Tea Party, and has been relieved due to the charges against him. That’s far better than OWS.
