At the time of this writing, tens of millions of Americans are bracing for an potentially powerful combination of a winter storm with hurricane Sandy, labeled “Frankenstorm.”

Here are some excerpts and video…

From Jesse Ferrell of Accuweather…

I said on my WeatherMatrix Facebook Page last night:

“The weather hasn’t ‘scared’ me for a long time, but what I’m seeing tonight on the forecast models, and the seriousness with which I’m seeing famous meteorologists discuss next week’s historic storm, has gotten me a little worried. If you live in any STATE on the East Coast, it’s time to think about preparing for next week’s storm because the track is not certain but the potential devastation seems to be. Tomorrow in my blog I’ll be talking about worst-case scenarios and what you need to be prepared for. Some simple steps can keep next week from being a nightmare for you and your family.”

There were a lot of other “quotables” said in that meeting which will give you some insight into what our meteorologists are thinking. A couple that stood out to me:

– “This will be a catastrophic storm over a large area.”

– “I’m scared about storm surge in NYC, and it will come sooner than people think.”

– “There could be power outages for weeks, and it could affect the election.”

– “The 00Z GFS 900 mb winds essentially show power being knocked out from D.C. to Maine.”

– “This type of storm has never been seen before by meteorologists.”

With computer models locked in on the eventuality of a punishing blow for East Coast from Hurricane Sandy (with the latest model runs favoring the northern mid-Atlantic), analyses suggest this storm may be unlike anything the region has ever experienced.

Model simulations have consistently simulated minimum pressures below 950 mb, which would be the lowest on record in many areas.

“MODELS SHOW PRESSURE WELL BEYOND WHAT HAS EVER BEEN OBSERVED NEAR THE NJ/NY COAST (EVEN EXCEEDING THE 1938 LONG ISLAND EXPRESS [HURRICANE])”, writes NOAA’s Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (HPC).

From the Weather Channel..

I’ll be keeping up with this story with more posts. I obviously have a personal interest, as the CH 2.0 bunker is in the target area.

Apparently, the small but noisy Marxist groups are causing gigantic corporations to change their policies, yet again.  For the details of the latest meaningless capitulation, here is an excerpt from NPR.

Two of America’s best-known companies, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, have dropped their memberships in the American Legislative Exchange Council, a low-profile conservative organization behind the national proliferation of “stand your ground” gun laws.

Coca-Cola’s announcement came hours after a civil rights group, ColorOfChange.org, launched an online drive calling on Coca-Cola to stop underwriting the ALEC agenda on voter ID laws in several states.

It’s part of a much broader campaign to spotlight companies that sell products to a public that might object to hard-line conservative policies such as stand your ground laws or requirements that voters show a photo ID at the polls.

Mind you, that Color of Change was founded by avowed Marxist, Van Jones.  It is not a civil rights organization, it is a Marxist pressure group.

Also, this is one of the newer methods of the left.  Since they haven’t been able to get talk radio banned, or FOX News off the air, or bloggers muzzled, they are now trying to impact the funding of Conservative organizations, intimidating the advertisers of talk shows, or even FOX.

So, if I were to communicate to any of these companies, I would say the following…

It has come to my attention that you have decided to stop donations to the American Legislative Exchange Council.  This is a rather disappointing development, as you seem to have made this decision on a false pretense.   Based on the groups claiming victory in this situation, it  appears that you have been duped by a very small, but highly organized, number of community organizers.  These organizations represent the tiniest fraction of the US population, but are very good at making themselves appear to be far more larger and influential than they really are.

On the contrary, Conservatives have been estimated by three years of Gallup polls as representing 40% of the US population.  And while Conservatives rarely call for boycotts, they do vote with their feet.  One recent example was Carbonite, the online backup company, and former Rush Limbaugh advertiser.  Within a week of ending their advertising on the Limbaugh program, their stock plummeted, and they lost many customers.  Another example is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  They initially cut, and then restored funding to the abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.  Many of the same organizations that contacted you were also involved in the decisions by Carbonite, as well as Komen. Here are the results of the Komen decision…

You no doubt remember that controversy: Komen decided to stop funding Planned Parenthood, the Left erupted in rage, Komen backed down. Victory for the liberal feminist movement! …And how does victory look now?

Well…

Reuters : “Komen said it had had problems meeting targets in about half of the five fundraising events it has staged since the blowup. One in Lafayette, Louisiana, raised less than $400,000, below its $500,000 goal, and another, to be held in Fort Worth, Texas, is also struggling.”

News4Jax : “The Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization is failing to meet its fundraising targets after the charity decided to cut and then later restore funding for Planned Parenthood, a leading provider of birth control and sexual health care.*”

NWCN : “Eastern Washington’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is less than three weeks away, but so far, registration and fundraising numbers are down. Organizers think the drop in support is likely related, at least in part, to the national debate between Komen and Planned Parenthood.”

As you can see, we do not organize large boycotts, but we do watch where we put our money on an individual basis.  If the organizations to whom you recently capitulated were as large and influential as they claimed to be, they could have replaced the funding lost by Komen, or sign up a significant number of new customers for Carbonite.  However, that has not occurred.

In the end, do you want to potentially alienate 40% of the US population in order to get a few small Marxist organizations off your backs?  I don’t think I need to explain the definition of a Pyrrhic victory, but these decisions, once made public, might reflect in your sales.

At any rate, that’s what I would say to them.  I don’t intend to contact these companies, but I will vote with my wallet.  It isn’t a question of  pressuring people into doing what I want them to do, but it’s a question of conscience.  There are some companies from which I will never purchase a single thing.  I see no need to name them, as it is a private decision.  That, and I’m not a fascist, unlike some other individuals or organizations.

Coming Soon: The Purge of the TV Weathermen

Share

It seems that not enough TV weathermen are spreading the word about Climate Change The Big Lie.  Consequently, lefties are promoting an offensive to either convert, or get rid of those that hold fast to the truth.  Weasel Zippers has more…

Concerned that too many “deniers” are in the meteorology business, global warming activists this month launched a campaign to recruit local weathermen to hop aboard the alarmism bandwagon and expose those who are not fully convinced that the world is facing man-made doom.

The Forecast the Facts campaign — led by 350.org, the League of Conservation Voters and the Citizen Engagement Lab — is pushing for more of a focus on global warming in weather forecasts, and is highlighting the many meteorologists who do not share their beliefs.

“Our goal is nothing short of changing how the entire profession of meteorology tackles the issue of climate change,” the group explains on their website. “We’ll empower everyday people to make sure meteorologists understand that their viewers are counting on them to get this story right, and that those who continue to shirk their professional responsibility will be held accountable.”

According to the Washington Post, the reason for the campaign can be found in a 2010 George Mason University surveys, which found that 63% of television weathermen think that global warming is a product of natural causes, while 31% believe it is from human activity.

I love how they worded their plans. “Our goal is nothing short of changing how the entire profession of meteorology tackles the issue of climate change…”  So, in other words, you are to get a steady stream of propaganda with your weather?  Yes!

“We’ll empower everyday people to make sure meteorologists understand that their viewers are counting on them to get this story right, and that those who continue to shirk their professional responsibility will be held accountable.”  To put it another way, “We’ll have people harass weathermen (and their stations) who refuse to endorse Climate Change The Big Lie, until they either agree to broadcast propaganda, or they are fired.  To put it simply, they are going to use the Alinsky Method against weathermen.
