Cognitive Dissonance: The Key to Defeating the ProgressivesWhen people experience the fruits of “Obama’s America,” they will likely feel a bit confused and hurt.

”The mental conflict that occurs when beliefs or assumptions are contradicted by new information. The unease or tension that the conflict arouses in a person is relieved by one of several defensive maneuvers: the person rejects, explains away, or avoids the new information, persuades himself that no conflict really exists, reconciles the differences, or resorts to any other defensive means of preserving stability or order in his conception of the world and of himself.”

-Encyclopedia Britannica

My post last year about kids defying the ACLU brought me back to a point I have been making for several years.  Socialism collapses in the presence of doubt.  In the examples of the fallen Soviet Bloc dictatorships, we see that once the people no longer “believed in” the state, and that their doubt overcame the fear of the state, the state collapsed.  When rhetoric and propaganda of the state and party were so completely disconnected from what the people could observe, they lost faith in the system.  This is instructive because it shows us the path towards defeating the POTUS and his socialist policies.

By my estimation, socialist states rely on three methods to control their populations.  The first is indoctrination.  In the US, they took over the public schools some time ago.  At each stage, children are exposed to, tested on, and pressured to exhibit, liberal ideology.  As many examples have shown, via lawsuits, students have been ridiculed, threatened with failing grades, and otherwise degraded if they deviate from the liberal mantra. Eventually, the children themselves are turned into a self-monitoring mob that reports, belittles, or attacks dissenters.   Using the peer pressure that makes children so susceptible, the left is very effective in “brainwashing” our youth.   These minions then go to the university, where they are further inculcated into socialism, and are then sent out to convert more minions.  If you wish to explore this further, look into how public school teachers and social workers are educated.  I believe that the idea here is to create an environment of “no resort.”  Either the child/student accepts and regurgitates the liberal mantra at every turn, or punishment will be swift and sure.  Those that have different ideas, or can see through the liberal point of view, are effectively silenced and rendered ineffective.

Additionally, the liberals have sought to expand their educational efforts to children at increasingly younger ages.  Their goal seems to be the indoctrination of children. To illustrate, let’s look at some quotes by prominent educators and others…

“The schools cannot allow parents to influence the kind of values-education their children receive in school; that is what is wrong with those who say there is a universal system of values. Our (humanistic) goals are incompatible with theirs. We must change their values.

–Paul Haubner, specialist for the N.E.A.

“Among the elementary measures the American Soviet government will adopt to further the cultural revolution are…[a] National Department of Education…the studies will be revolutionized, being cleansed of religious, patriotic, and other features of the bourgeois ideology. The students will be taught the basis of Marxian dialectical materialism, internationalism and the general ethics of the new Socialist society.”

–William Z. Foster, Toward Soviet America, 1932 National Chairman of the American Communist Party (1933-44, 1945-57)

“Education is a weapon whose effects depend on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.”

–Joseph Stalin

John Dewey, called “the father of modern education,” was an avowed socialist, the co-author of the ‘Humanist Manifesto’ and cited as belonging to fifteen Marxist-front organizations by the Committee on Un-American Activities. Do the words (the father of modern education) now take on new meaning? Remember, Dewey taught the professors who would train America’s teachers. He was obsessed with “the group.” In his own words, “You can’t make socialists out of individualists. Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society which is coming, where everyone is interdependent.”

The effort here is to control, from the earliest possible age, the beliefs and thoughts of the child.  Education is a secondary concern, if it is even a concern at all.  Knowledge and facts are secondary to that of the intended ideology.  If knowledge is indeed the currency of freedom, socialists must therefore carefully control what is taught, and competing opinions should be banished, and their proponents marginalized and punished.  Therefore, in any socialist or fascist state, education was among the first institutions to receive a complete conversion.  Curriculum was changed to reflect the new order, home schooling was banned, and private schools were either co-opted, or closed.  This is meant to achieve a “monopoly of ideology,” nothing more, nothing less.  Control the child and carefully monitor what they see and hear, and the end result (the “progressives” hope) is a complaint and brainwashed minion who will not question the state, as they will know nothing more than what they learned from the state.

To prevent their newly minted minions from hearing anything contrary to state approved messages, the elimination of dissent becomes necessary.  This is the second method to control populations.  Outlets and individuals that discuss “competing ideologies” are to be silenced.  In socialist and fascist states, strong-arm tactics usually accomplished this.  In the current age, regulation, ridicule, and punishment are used.  A bit softer to be sure, but the results are much the same.  One needs to look no further than Hugo Chavez to see this in operation in the 21st century, or, for that matter, the actions of the left in this country.

The fairness doctrine, the effort to implement it and call it something else is a case in point.  As covered here, a board was appointed and given the task of making recommendation for broadcast regulations.  The board is stacked with leftist organizations.  Administration officials have been quoted as stating that the goal is…

It also was reported when a think tank headed by John Podesta, co-chairman of Obama’s transition team, mapped out a strategy in 2007 for clamping down on conservative talk radio by requiring stations to be operated by female and minority owners, which the report showed were statistically more likely to carry liberal political talk shows.

That report found the best strategy for getting equal time for “progressives” on radio lies in mandating “diversity of ownership” without ever needing to mention the former FCC policy of requiring airtime for liberal viewpoints, known as the “Fairness Doctrine,” a plan thrown out in the 1980s.

Knowing that the ‘Fairness Doctrine” is a loaded term, the liberals resort to “slight of hand” by calling it something else.  The desired result, however, is the same.

Going along with banning dissent is the control of the media.   The most convenient way to manage the people is to control the flow of information available to the public.  In totalitarian states, movies, music, print, radio, television, and even the Internet (with varying levels of success) are tightly controlled.  Everything that is read, heard, and seen is carefully presented to not only convey what the government wants the public to believe, but to also ridicule the opposition, and discredit any other ideas.  Information that might “confuse” or “discourage” (ie, the truth) the public is not permitted.

In the more openly totalitarian states, this is accomplished by direct ownership and control.  In the US, it has been achieved ideologically, by the same educational indoctrination scheme I described earlier.  As so many of us have observed, the MSM often ignores gaffes, crimes, inconsistent statements, lies, and failures of the left.  If the story is reported, it will often be minimized or misrepresented.   Many times, a person exposing a story or whistle blowing will be attacked, causing their character or motivations to be called into question.  Other times, individuals on the right will be openly ridiculed.  The entertainment industry is also involved, with TV shows, movies, and music echoing “progressive” political and cultural messages, all with the intent of providing the citizen with their regularly scheduled does of indoctrination.  The idea, of course, is to promote the agenda, as well as to marginalize dissenters, and at the same time, their messages.

A significant effect of banning dissent is to cause the individual to become discouraged, and eventually “give up,” reluctantly joining the “new order.”  The validation that one receives from knowing that they are not alone in their beliefs cannot be underestimated.  A group with shared beliefs is more powerful than an isolated individual.  Fear not friends, I am not talking about collectivism here.  This is simple psychology.   Besides the obvious benefits of “strength in numbers,” groups validate and empower their individual members.  If one knows that others will stand with him, he is more likely to make a stand.

This is, in my opinion, one of the primary reasons for the left’s attempts to silence the right.  If they can stop people from receiving the validation of the larger group, the right can be reduced into smaller groups that are easily ostracized, or into isolated individuals that will be no “threat” to the “progressive” state.  They want you to give up and become silent.   They know that if they can indoctrinate the next generation in the absence of dissenting opinions that have more worth, they will win.  They therefore want us to be silent and discouraged.

The third technique consists of the simple thug tactics used by the left.  As I, and others, have discussed, the left uses intimidation to silence dissent, attack other ideologies, and to punish those that speak out.   People are threatened, their employers are threatened (unless they terminate the target), and “protesters” show up at the schools of the children of those that have “sinned” against the left.  As Alinski put it, the plan is to identify, isolate, freeze and escalate activities towards the target.  Frivolous lawsuits will be filed; false allegations made, private documents will be made public, all in an attempt to punish the target. This is harassment and intimidation, as well as an attempt to ruin the lives and reputations of the targeted individuals.

This intimidation is also meant to send a message to anyone else that might speak out or otherwise resist.  “Unless you want this to happen to you and your family, you best keep your mouth shut!”

So, where does Cognitive Dissonance come into this?  It goes back to my first paragraph.  Many of the people in the middle – those that perhaps pay little attention to the news or current political situation – are about to experience more of the “progressivism” from the POTUS.  They will see more lies and deceit.  They will see more and more if their fellow citizens ridiculed.  If either Cap and Trade or the ObamaCare passes, the economy will be devastated.  Individuals that voted for the POTUS without examining his actual motivations, or people on the left that still have the ability to think (there are some), will experience a great deal of Cognitive Dissonance.  Also, kids and college students that have been spoon-fed the liberal mantra will experience discomfort when the plans that they have supported cascade the economy into failure.  This is the time that we, as Conservatives or Libertarians, will need to capitalize on this “theory colliding headlong into reality.”

How do we do this?

  • Continue blogging, and share your blog with others.
  • Contact friends and family that may have voted for the POTUS.  Show them the evidence.
  • Collect evidence by download to show others.  I recently showed a liberal co-worker the video montage made by Verum Serum on ObamaCare.  I thought the person’s jaw would hit the floor.  Then, I showed her Margaret Sanger and Ruth Bader Ginsberg quotes.  She became upset.  If this continues, she will eventually question her beliefs.  All it takes is enough evidence.
  • Download and store videos and articles that make our points.  If the POTUS ever does manage to control Internet content, a lot of the evidence against him will disappear.  Unless, that is, we save it!

This is starting to work.  Majorities now stand against ObamaCare.  The amount of people that think the Porkulus is helping is within the margin of error in the poll!  The discussion of ClimateGate is causing more and more people to question the AGW fraud.

It’s working because to promote their agenda, the “progressives” must lie at every turn.  They must create crises.  They have to fudge numbers, bribe officials, and contradict themselves on a regular basis.  To defeat the agenda, we simply must point out observable facts.  They may have the House, Senate, the White House, film, TV, music, the newspapers, the broadcast news, and millions of useful idiots; but we have the truth.  That, my friends, is the nuclear weapon in our arsenal.

I wrote this because I became a Conservative in this fashion.  I came out of grad school with a brain full of liberal ideology.  When I started working, I noticed that much of what I was taught simply didn’t match reality.  As time wore on, I became discouraged.  When some friends started introducing me to Conservatism, I initially resisted.  After all, Conservatives are all fascists, right?  I started to read, and listened to talk radio.  As time wore on, I educated myself.  No coercion, threats, intimidation, or indoctrination were required.  I simply saw that Conservatism matches reality.  If we can help others when Cognitive Dissonance hits, and it WILL, we can help defeat the left.  I find it ironic, and encouraging, that the billions that the left spends on public and college education can be undone by simple truths.

There are many people on the left that will never see reality.  While that is unfortunate, there is nothing that will convince them.  Either that, or they are “higher – ups” in the left that know that the policies are meant to cause a crisis.  I humbly suggest that they be left alone.  Their shrill and increasingly irrational reactions to the truth will serve our purpose well.

I have more on this topic, I’ll post it in a day or two.

Why Leftists Deny Reality? Facts are the kryptronite to the left.

Ever try to argue facts and information with a Liberal?  Ever come away from the encounter frustrated?   Well, there’s a reason for that. Here are some excerpts from an interview with Yuri Bezmenov, a defector from the Soviet Union.

I know that intelligence gathering looks more romantic…. That’s probably why your Hollywood producers are so crazy about James Bond types of films. But in reality the main emphasis of the KGB is NOT in the area of intelligence at all. According to my opinion, and the opinions of many defectors of my caliber, only about 15% of time, money, and manpower is spent on espionage as such. The other 85% is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare. What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country.

It’s a great brainwashing process which goes very slow and is divided into four basic stages. The first stage being “demoralization“. It takes from 15 to 20 years to demoralize a nation. Why that many years? Because this is the minimum number of years required to educate one generation of students in the country of your enemy exposed to the ideology of [their] enemy. In other words, Marxism-Leninism ideology is being pumped into the soft heads of at least 3 generation of American students without being challenged or counterbalanced by the basic values of Americanism; American patriotism.

The result? The result you can see — most of the people who graduated in the 60?s, dropouts or half-baked intellectuals, are now occupying the positions of power in the government, civil service, business, mass media, and educational systems. You are stuck with them. You can’t get through to them. They are contaminated. They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern can not change their mind even if you expose them to authentic information. Even if you prove that white is white and black is black, you still can not change the basic perception and the logic of behavior. [alluding to Pavlov].

So, It would seem, by the admission of a former KGB official, that their efforts were successful.  If fact, the progress has even exceeded their expectations…

The demoralization process in the United States is basically completed already for the last 25 years. Actually, it’s over fulfilled because demoralization now reaches such areas where not even Comrade Andropov and all his experts would even dream of such tremendous success. Most of it is done by Americans to Americans thanks to lack of moral standards. As I mentioned before, exposure to true information does not matter anymore. A person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him, even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents and pictures. …he will refuse to believe it…. That’s the tragedy of the situation of demoralization.

Mind you, these words were spoken in the 80?s.  I think we all recognize that the situation has deteriorated significantly since then. Think about politicians like Allen Grayson, everyone on MSNBC (and most of the MSM), and the public schools and universities.  It’s all there.  Rights that do not exist are created, and rights that do exist are denied.  Capitalism is decried, and socialism is praised.  Lies, deceit, thuggery, intimidation, propaganda, and media control are all practiced by the left, and are viewed as acceptable practices.  They cling dogmatically to socialism, as it continues to destroy the country.  They deny, emphatically, all evidence to the contrary, irregardless  of it’s bulk and validity.  Then, they turn and attack anyone that presents the truth.

It seems hopeless, but it isn’t.  Since the last term of Bush, and especially since Obama’s election, more and more Conservatives have been speaking out.   While the left has entrenched and are attacking with all of their resources (which are considerable), they are losing the debate, as well as the battle for public opinion.  Our advantage is that they are still, in spite of their best efforts, a small minority.  Our disadvantage is that while the left is statistically small, they are extremely well placed.  Since their “long march through the institutions,”  their impact reaches far beyond their numbers.

As usual, here are some ideas on how to deal with this situation:

1.  Don’t engage a leftist unless you can bury them in facts.  It won’t matter to the leftist, but anyone else that can see, hear, or read might be convinced by reality.

2.  Stay on message.  Leftists, when hit with reality, will change the subject to something that they think they use against you.  The classic, “Where were you when Bush was POTUS?” is easily answered by saying, “where are you now?”  You might be tempted to state that most of us didn’t agree with Bush’s policies, but then you are talking about history, and not what’s happening now.  Also, you are defending yourself rather than dealing with Obama’s policies.  Thread hijacking, ad-hominem attacks, lies, and logical fallacies are all part of the leftist playbook.  Point out that they are not responding to content, and move on with your point.  If they get shrill, let them, because you win!

3.  Don’t allow yourself to be distracted.  The infiltrators, the “anarchists,” and the MSM are all lying and/or threatening the movement.  While these need to be addressed, they don’t have to be a primary focus.  From what I saw, the Tea Parties did a fantastic job of identifying the infiltrators.  That, and the message still got out, and that is the key.  As for the MSM, let them say what they will.  This blog, and many others, expose their lies on a regular basis.  When they lie, and anyone can look it up on-line and see the truth, the more audience they will lose.  Let them fall on their own swords.  Basically, if your adversary is self destructing, get out of the way and let them.

4.  Facts, facts, and non-violence are our weapons of choice.  Stick with those, and we win.  Forget the left, they cannot be convinced of anything.  They will likely not overcome their programming.  We are trying to convince the people that aren’t sure, and might still be able to think a bit.  That too is working.  More people are coming to our cause all the time.

5.  Educate yourselves.  Read, watch, and learn.  A knowledgeable opponent will give the average leftist fits.  Again, when they get shrill, we win.

6. Stay calm.  If you lose your cool, you lose.  The goal of the leftist, beyond taking you off message, is to upset you and make you lash out, rendering you ineffective.

To sum it up, this is the key to our victory.

“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.”

New Deal Failed, Made Depression Worse

Share

government waste

When people fail to learn the lessons of history, they are doomed to repeat it.  For some proof, here is what happened with FDR’s New Deal…

Fast forward to 2009, when President Barak Obama promises recovery when the Stimulus Porkulus was passed.  It was promised that unemployment would not rise above seven percent, when it soared well above that.  Then, we were promised three “summers of recovery,” and each and every one was a disappointment.  If fact, the MSM was told to stop using the term, “unexpected” when discussing monthly economic reports.

Now, in reality, the phrase about those repeating history is no longer applicable.  In the age of Alinsky, the doomed repition does occur.  However, it is carefully and persistentyly blamed on someone elsed.  Whether it’s Global Warming Global Cooling Climate change The Big Lie, George W.  Bush, the Tea Party, or even the GOP  must be blamed for the discomfort felt by others when that pesky reality strikes.  So, when Obama tried to duplicate the New Deal, it was doomed to fail-not because of some nefarious plot, but do to reality.   However, in the age of Alinsky, if reality doesn’t fit the narrative, it has to go, and anyone who points that out must be attacked.

Mayor Bloomberg to NY Citizens: Be Good Little Victims, You Hear

Share

Only in a liberal world can you be punished for not being a victim.  Recently, a man dared to not be a victim of a burglar.  Wyblog has more…

Mike Bloomberg would prefer if New Yorkers got robbed. Repeatedly. To him, anything is better than protecting yourself with a gun. How do I know this? I mean besides Mayor Mikey’s fanatical devotion to repealing the Second Amendment? Because NYC resident George Bardwil pulled a gun on a would-be robber, and Bloomberg’s Storm Troopers promptly arrested him on an illegal weapons charge.

A Manhattan millionaire faces three years in jail for drawing an unlicensed gun on a burglar inside his home.

George Bardwil, who owns linen company Bardwil Home, was in his E Street apartment when an intruder came into his home in January… Bardwil, 60, threatened the intruder with a loaded .40 cal Sig Sauer. The man fled and Mr. Bardwil called the police.

After showing the cops footage from his home surveillance cameras, they arrested him under suspicions of owning an illegal firearm…

Of course they didn’t arrest the burglar. That would require them to do actual police work. Terrorizing law-abiding citizens in their own homes is much easier. And a lot more fun.

So, in liberal land, people are punished for not being crime victims, and the perps run free.

As of late, I’ve been saying that we live in a post reality world, where facts and common sense do not exist.  And, in fact, liberal land intentionally runs against reality whenever possible.  If you need more evidence than that, there’s little I can do for you.

Video Shows How Gun Control Advocates Lie About the Numbers

How does the gun control advocates lie about crime statistics? The following video had the information…

Right-minded: Move on and save the savable

Share

Nothing you say matters to the hardcore liberal.  I want you to say that three times and embed it in your nugget.  No matter the facts, the evidence, the history, and the reality of the world we live in your words mean absolutely nothing to those committed liberals who believe in big government solutions and a nanny-state environment.  They have signed up, drank the utopian Kool-Aid and have bought into the leftist ideology lock, stock, and barrel.

I bring this point up because of a conversation I had with a friend about his experience with family members who have bought into this flawed ideology.  He conveyed his frustration to me about how disillusioned his liberal family members had become over the years.  When he tried to offer them a conservative alternative they scoffed at the notion and ignored every word he said.  Using real world examples he tried to show them how liberalism has failed in the past and how it is failing now.  It simply didn’t matter.  At one point my friend said he believed a smaller government footprint in our lives was a good thing.  They laughed at him.  This is what we’re up against folks and to be quite honest almost 90 percent of these people cannot be saved.  The only value they add to the political conversation is to use them as examples of what not to be; closed minded and ignorant.  We need to continue to call them out when the put forth nonsensical ideas, but saving them from their own short myopic view of the world around them is simply not in the cards.

I don’t say this to be mean or uncaring.  We simply don’t have the time to waste on people like this.  You see each day that goes by there are those who can be saved slipping deeper and deeper into this liberal trap.  Whether they have lost their job and are now dependent on the scraps the government feeds them or they have found themselves in a situation where they are questioning the wisdom of our system, we must not waste our time with the hardcore left.  Very few of them will ever see things in a different light and those who eventually do are few and far between.  It usually takes some life changing event that rocks their entire belief system.  We can’t take it personal when these people laugh at us, call us names, or say we’ve been brainwashed by the far right.  We need to not worry about whether these people want to be our friends or not.  It’s about saving those who can be saved from this terrible flawed ideology that threatens our nation.  It about turning the tide against them and this is done by focusing our efforts on people who keep an open mind.

This can be a very painful journey for many of us, because it hurts to see our loved ones so misguided and misinformed about the issues.  When my friend told his family member that we can’t afford Obamacare because our country is broke, the family member just laughed at him.  It hurt him a great deal because nothing he said seemed to matter.  His opinion was garbage but his family member’s opinion was right.   My advice to him and anyone else who has experienced the same type of response is to move on.  Defend yourself and your position if attacked, but move on and waste no more precious time trying to sell the idea of individual liberty over big government intrusion.  These people have been with us since the days of the Federalist and anti-Federalist; those who wanted a strong government influence and our lives and those who did not.  If Thomas Jefferson in all his brilliance couldn’t convince John Adams of the folly of his ways in regards to the Alien and Sedition Act do you really think you’re going to change the mind of your loved one?  Instead Thomas Jefferson wasted no more time with John Adams and moved on to garner support against the Alien and Sedition Act from those who were willing to listen to his position.  In the end Jefferson won the day because he concentrated his efforts on what really mattered; building a consensus against the Alien and Sedition Act.

So to all those folks out there who have experienced the above scenario play out in your lives, my advice to you is to move on so you can start saving those who can still be saved.  Move on so we can start building a strong conservative consensus in America.  Move on so we can get on with the task of restoring America back to greatness.  Move on and don’t lose any sleep over it.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

AGW RIP: Overcome by Fatal Dose of Reality

Share

Over the last sevaeral years, I have, gleefully, covered the ever-growing and multiplying holes that were appearing in the “settled science” of anthropogenic global warming (AGW).  Now, I think it’s time to declare it legally dead.  As for evidence, I would cite the following from Mark Morano at Climate Depot…

The scientific reality is that from A-Z, the scientific case for man-made climate fears has collapsed. TheArctic has rebounded in recent years, the Antarctic sea ice extent has been at or near record extent in past few summers, polar bears appear to be thriving, sea level is not showing acceleration and may be dropping, Mount Kilimanjaro melt fears are being made a mockery by gains in snow cover, globaltemperatures have been holding steady for a decade or more, scandals continue to rock the climate fear movement and scientists continue to dissent at a rapid pace. Poor Al Gore, he has been reduced to criticizing his own party’s president for failing to act to stop “climate change.”

Of course, the quest for government control via imagined environmental catastrophe  has been re-branded before, and will likely face yet another narrative change, especially if some predicted cooling occurs.  In the 70’s, human activity was going to cause an ice age.  Then, when that failed, we were all going to tread water due to global warming melting the polar ice caps.  Now, we see that not only are the ice caps not melting, they are increasing.   Not only are the sea levels not rising, some scientists had to fudge their date to make it appear as if they were.  Then, of course, we had the ClimateGate scientists conspiring to silence critics and “hide the decline.”

Of course, I think that even God is mocking them.  They had their 2009 “Climate Confab in Copenhagen,” and got hit with record cold plus a blizzard.    They literally suggested that the next confab be held in a hot location, reflecting the narrative, so they decided to have the 2010 meeting in Cancun.  The result?  Record cold for that conference as well!

The poor fools can’t win for losing.

At the current moment, the narrative is that we are dealing with Climate Change.  Since cooling failed to deliver, and warming was derailed by a lack of heat, the statists in waiting have now crafted a narrative that suggests that no matter what happens, it’s our fault, and only total government control of all human activity will save us from…something really bad.   Though, I have to predict, nature will point out the folly of man.

But the statists cannot let something like reality interfere with their efforts, can they?

Classic Conservative Hideout: Why Leftists Deny Reality?

Share

Note: Since we are dealing with  some common leftist tactics as of late, and they are only going to become more shrill and desperate, I thought it might be a good idea to examine their programming.  To that end, here is a post from April of last year.

Ever try to argue facts and information with a Liberal?  Ever come away from the encounter frustrated?   Well, there’s a reason for that. Here are some excerpts from an interview with Yuri Bezmenov, a defector from the Soviet Union.

Moving On: When it's Time to let a Liberal go

Share

Many of us know people that are left leaning or full blown liberals.  They may be family members, friends, or co-workers.  As a conservative I’ve always found it very difficult to debate these people because of how closed minded they tend to be.  No matter what facts you throw at them, they always question your sources or fire back with some anecdotal story that appeals to the emotional side of human nature regardless of facts.  They will tell you how little Johnny couldn’t get his heart transplant because of the evil insurance companies or how poor Sara lost her home when the housing bubble burst and how the big bad banks were the ones to blame.  They’ll ignore the fact that little Johnny is actually on a waiting list for a heart and has not been denied care or that poor Sara got into a home that she simply couldn’t afford and it caught up with her.  They have an unlimited supply of stories for just about any issue and they all sound the same.  This makes it very difficult for me to have a debate on a topic based on facts minus the emotions with a liberal.  They simply don’t want to hear the facts.

The other night I found myself locked into a debate with a left leaning friend and needless to say it was a frustrating experience.  This is a person I have known my whole life.  He has a liberal education and claims to be independent in regards to his political affiliation.  The subject matter was all over the place, from religion and the homosexual community to comparing President Bush and Obama.  This went on for about two hours and by the time I got off the phone my wife had gone to bed and I was completely exhausted.  I realized that no matter how sound my argument was, no matter how many facts I presented he was not going to listen to my point of view.  At one point I even told him he sounded like a well conditioned leftist.  He loves Obama, ObamaCare, and hates the evil companies that have taken advantage of the downtrodden.  He dislikes conservatives because he feels they are a bunch of ignorant intolerant rednecks who hate everyone and everything.  I pointed out that it was the left who was labeling the tea party groups as a bunch of tea bagging racists and calling for end of conservative talk radio because of the hate they were spewing.  I said, that  doesn’t sound very tolerant.

He blames organized religion and corporate America for many of the problems we are dealing with today.  He feels that corporations are in bed with government and this was the one point I agreed with him on; however he also stated that using the religious principles outlined in the Bible was a dangerous thing.  I told him that when God’s influence in government is diminished it opens the way for government to step in and become our god, and that was unacceptable.  I also reminded him this was the desired state that Hitler and Stalin both sought in terms of government’s relationship with the people.  They wanted government to be positioned before God.  When you do this, then the government becomes the granter of rights and not God.  I asked him what he thought about this and he told me government grants rights all the time.  He then accused me of calling Obama Hitler missing my point completely.  He claims to be a person that cherishes liberty but is in favor of government programs and regulations that steal our liberties and trample on our property rights.  He does not believe the second amendment give everyone the right to bear arms and that hunters didn’t need assault type weapons.  No matter what I countered with, he countered back with nonsensical emotional banter.  I asked him if he was angry at George Bush for the Patriot Act, huge deficit spending, and GITMO then why wasn’t he mad at President Obama for doubling down on all the things he hated about Bush.  He replied he just didn’t like Bush and besides President Obama sounded smarter and appeared more presidential.  It was then I realized there was no way I was going convince him of anything, because he does not want to hear.  He has decided to close his mind and slam the door shut to another way and other possibilities.  About half way through our discussion I accepted the fact that no matter how many facts I presented I was not going to get through to him.  The case was closed on the debate.  So I decided that he is no longer worth my time and I’m moving on.

I don’t consider myself quitting on him, I’m just accepting the reality of the condition and moving on.  Many of you will find yourself at some point in the same place as I was two nights ago.  You will become frustrated and maybe even angry when debating these buffoons.  My advice is to move on.  There are a large number of people out there that will be receptive to the conservative message and will keep an open mind.  You may not sell it completely, but they will hear you.  The time is short and we simply do not have it to waste on people who have taken a huge gulp of the leftist kool aid.  The battle for the hearts and minds of the ignorant is taking place each day in our schools, colleges, and street corners.  If we waste too much time on people like my friend, then we might be missing an opportunity somewhere else.

Each of you will know when it is time to move on.  My eyes were opened a few nights ago with this friend.  I’m moving on.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

Virtual Capitalism

Share

Now as of late, I have been having a bit of writer’s block. So I thought I would take this opportunity to bring something different to my readers. Okay, I will admit it. I play video games. Yes I, father of eight and grandfather of 3 play video games.

Before you all ask why I am explaining this, please bear with me for a bit and allow me a bit of leeway in explaining the game that I play the most. Then I will tie it all in with the real world that we deal in; that is politics.

Well I play one online computer game. It is my stress reliever, my moment of zen if you will. I play a game called World of Warcraft, or WoW for short. If any of you remember Dungeons and Dragons, then you will have a good idea of what type of game WoW is. It is basically a 3D version of D&D brought to life. A “virtual reality” type, role playing game. I love it, I play it and I am not ashamed to admit it.

WoW is an MMORPG or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. You are online when you play the game with thousands of other people sitting at their homes, in front of their computers also playing WoW. It is an interactive, social networking type of role playing game – and it can be highly addictive.

In a nutshell WoW is set on a fictitious planet called Azeroth. To play the game, you choose a type of character you want to play, the race you wish it to be and then the faction you wish it to be. There are two factions, or “sides” in WoW;

  • The Alliance, consisting of Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Night Elves, Dranei and Worgen
  • And The Horde, consisting of Orcs, Taurens, Trolls, Blood Elves, Undead and Goblins. There are also classes of characters, such as warriors, priests, druids, mages, warlocks, etc…

Now before you head completely spins off your body, let me give you an example. My best character is a Dwarf Warrior, but you could make a Gnome Mage or a Night Elf Druid, an Orc Warrior, an Undead Priest, etc… Each class has its function and they are designed to work with one another on missions, called quests or in dungeons, called instances. You can only talk and interact with other characters within your faction, Alliance or Horde. As I mentioned, the game has a very social aspect to it, in that you can chat with others that are online as well. You can collaborate or compete with them in game. As you play, your character progresses through higher and higher levels. You control your avatar or “toon” via a first person or third person view.

You can obtain better items for your toon, such as armor or weapons. You can get these by doing quests in the game or by actually purchasing them. The game has its own currency; Gold pieces, Silver pieces and Copper pieces. 100 Copper equals 1 Silver and 100 Silver equals 1 Gold. There is an economy in the game, so this is where I connect the game of Warcraft with reality.

I explain all this because Blizzard, the company that makes World of Warcraft has been very successful with it; and for good reason. To date they have over 12 million subscribers to the game. Subscribers pay a nominal monthly fee to be able to log onto the game and play. Blizzard long ago realized that in order to make the game play interesting or fun enough to keep people paying and playing, they had to set up an in game economy. It would be real easy for Blizz to just give each player the items they need to play the game, but after a very short time, the fun would wear off. Instead Blizz has set up WoW as a free market economy.

You see, in the real world – in a free market economy such as in the United States, if you want something, you go to a vendor that sells what you need or want and you purchase it. WoW is very similar in that if your toon needs a new item, say a weapon for instance; then you have a quite a few different options.

  • Through different professions your character can learn to make some items and gear.
  • You can find a vendor in the game that sells it and you can purchase it if you have the correct amount of currency. Vendors are NPCs (non playing characters) which are AI or artificial intelligence – in other words NPCs are computer generated characters that you can interact with in the game.
  • You can complete quests that offer gear as a reward for completing those quests. Or you can group with other players and complete instances (dungeons) and what you need might or might not “drop” when you kill a certain boss in those instances.
  • You might also approach other players via the trade function in the game and negotiate a price for the item you need, that is if they have it.
  • Lastly, you can go the auction house that is in game and bid on items there. Now this is where it gets interesting, because you can make vast amounts of in game “gold” by knowing what items are valuable or highly sought after and you can obtain or make those items and sell them on the auction house.

I find it very interesting that Blizzard chose the free market system to model their in game economy after. The sheer skill needed to obtain enough gold to purchase the high level items your toon needs is considerable.

In addition, a black market of gold sellers has cropped up. People who have mastered the skills necessary to harvest vast amounts of gold (referred to as gold farmers in the gaming community) actually sell in game gold for real world money. Just Google “WoW gold” and you will see what I am talking about.

Now what really blows me away is when I am in game and notice on the chat channels that people are complaining about “Obama bashers.” They defend him and say things like, “So what if he is socialist? What is so bad about socialism?” All the while they are competing in a free market economy. Understand that the players in the game, not Blizzard set the prices on the vast majority of all items. This means that the in game economy is elastic and suffers the same trials and tribulations of real world economies; inflation, supply and demand, etc…

If Blizzard tried to implement the policies that Obama is attempting to force upon the American public, then the number of subscribers would drop greatly. For, to have everything provided by a centralized authority would take away all the goals and accomplishments that make the game fun to play. An epic sword that has a low drop rate is held in high regard because it is so difficult to obtain. A player might run a certain instance dozens or even hundreds of times to get the item he or she is looking for. If Blizzard simply provided it to the players, where would the satisfaction be?

I submit that if socialism was truly better than capitalism, then Blizzard and other game makers would not set up free markets for the players of their games. Cheat codes on some games make them less appealing because of the same reason.

I think the Obama administration and his economic advisers need to purchase subscriptions to World of Warcraft and play for a few months before making any more changes in the United States’ monetary policy. I mean, hey what could it hurt? Besides it would be fun to be online and stumble upon a virtual president. I would know it would be him because of all the virtual secret service…

Blog Focus: The Power to Ignore Reality

Share

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a post that was beyond fantastic, and I thought I might share it.  It’s from one of our newer friends, Fleece Me.  So, sit back a while and enjoy The Power to Ignore Reality.

Liberals have an amazing ability to ignore the facts of life.  Unlike the television show of the same name, our world is not composed of 30 minute vignettes of the trials and tribulations of a group of girls living in the suburbs, it is decidedly the opposite.  Daily, innocent people are being reduced to mounds of indecipherable flesh, innocent people are losing jobs and benefits and even more innocent people are finding that their government has greater concerns than the well-being of its populace.  But if you pay attention to the most pressing concerns facing Americans (according to liberals), there would be issues such as whether or not gays should be allowed to openly serve in the military, whether or not children of illegal aliens should get citizenship, how much control the government should have over the food we put in our body and how restaurants are allowed to market that food, and lastly, should caffeine be allowed in alcoholic beverages.

Is this just blatant ignorance on the part of the progressives.  Do they not understand the looming tax-increase is the biggest concern of every business in America?  Do they even care?  I am going to suggest they do not.  This power to ignore reality is shared by only one other group of people on the planet, children.  Now I am not going to go into a long diatribe of how liberals are like little children, mainly because that has been done more than a few times (primarily because the similarities are striking), but I am going to look at why they are able to ignore facts that look them right in the face.

In the most basic breakdown of philosophy, you can divide people into two schools of thought, realists and subjectivists.  The realist view of the world can be summed up most easily by this simple statement – existence exists.  That is, there is truth in the universe.  Physical things are actually part of reality, even if you don’t know it.  It answers the question, “If a tree falls in the woods and nobody observes it, did the tree actually fall?” with a resounding yes.  Morally, realists believe there is a morality in the universe, and it is independent of the observer, like all other physical laws.

Conversely, subjectivists, answer the tree falling in the woods question with a whimpering no.  In fact, they might not even believe the person asking the question exists.  He could just be a construct of their subconscious mind.  Subjectivists believe truth and law is arbitrary, and they definitely believe morality is arbitrary.  To quote Dr. Jonathan Dolhenty from his essay on Philosophical Realism: [his emphasis]

I’d strongly recommend that you click on the link and read the rest of the post at Fleece Me.  It is a most insightful post.
