First they “suggested” that we go vegan to Save The Planet.

Now Obama’s storm troopers are going to regulate our backyard barbecues using the Clean Air Act.

The Environmental Protection Agency has its eyes on pollution from backyard barbecues.

The agency announced that it is funding a University of California project to limit emissions resulting in grease drippings with a special tray to catch them and a “catalytic” filtration system.

The $15,000 project has the “potential for global application,” said the school.

The school said that the technology they will study with the EPA grant is intended to reduce air pollution and cut the health hazards to BBQ “pit masters” from propane-fueled cookers.

Charged with keeping America’s air, water and soil clean, the EPA has been increasingly looking at homeowners, especially their use of pollution emitting tools like lawn mowers.

Get ready for the denials.

If you like your barbecue, you can keep your barbecue.. Like we’re gonna fall for that one again, right?

02-grill-girlThe EPA has already effectively outlawed wood burning stoves.

And we all know what they’ve done to destroy the coal industry in this country.

So using the same rules to regulate barbecues like mine is the logical next step.

Here’s their first proposal:

The school is proposing two fixes to reduce emissions from barbecues. First, they want to cut back on grease flare-ups. The idea: “A slotted and corrugated tray is inserted immediately prior to meat flipping, and removed immediately after. This short contact time prevents the tray from over-heating and volatilizing the collected grease. This collected grease will then drip off into a collection tray and can be used at the pit master’s discretion.”

But it’s the second phase that really shows how nuts these EPA clowns are:

But, total capture isn’t “practical,” so a filter and fan are proposed for installation. “The secondary air filtration system is composed of a single pipe duct system which contains a specialized metal filter, a metal fan blade, a drive shaft, and an accompanying power system with either a motorized or manual method. This system can be powered by either an exterior electric motor with a chain-driven drive shaft, directly spinning the fan blade, or a hand-powered crank,” said the project write-up.

Good freaking grief!

Can you imagine anything so ridiculous? A smokestack and soot scrubbers encasing your backyard grill?

Yeah, that won’t be expensive! Or cumbersome. Not to mention, batshit insane.

Typical EPA-approved smokestack scrubber setup. Substitute “your grill” for “wet scrubber” and you’ll get an idea of where they’re going with this.

Can you imagine cooking ribs inside that contraption?

The Obamunists have got to be stopped. Now. Before they mess with our grilled meat.

Merry Christmas And Happy New Year From The EPA

The Grinches in the Obama administration’s Economy Pulverizing Agency (EPA) are spreading their own diabolical idea of Christmas cheer on our fragile economy by dumping 1200 new regulations on it with an estimated economic cost of $20 billion, which brings the EPA’s added regulatory burden for the year to over $200 billion.

For the new year, they are already hard at work to drive up the cost of energy produced by fracking on federal lands.

You can read the details here.

With two more long years left, you can bet that President Obama, with the help of his pen and his phone, will have his Grinches busy helping him complete his promise to make electricity costs in America skyrocket.

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

Thanks To California’s Lefty Birdbrains, Eggs Are About To Get A Lot More Expensive

 photo eggstocostmoredough_zps0c9734c5.jpg

So I’m perusing the Star-Ledger business page during lunch and what do I see? An article reprinted from Bloomberg News about an upcoming price increase for eggs. And why are a dozen eggs going to get more expensive? Well, you can thank California’s birdbrain animal rights nuts for that.

Eggs are about to get more expensive, as California moves to make sure hen houses are roomy enough to allow the birds to lay down, stand up, extend their wings and dance around.

Farmers nationwide who want to continue selling to the most populous U.S. state are moving to comply with a new law, taking effect next month, that requires the larger cages. They either must build more hen houses, or house fewer birds in the ones they have, raising their costs.

Wholesale egg prices already average a record $2.27 a dozen nationally, up 34 percent from a year earlier. With the new law, the price Californians pay may jump as much as 20 percent for shell eggs in three to six months, according to Dermot J. Hayes, an agribusiness professor at Iowa State University in Ames. The rest of the country will probably follow suit, he said.

“You’re going to see some really large spikes in the price of eggs in January,” said Scott Ramsdell, who owns Dakota Layers LLP in Flandreau, South Dakota.

California imports more than 30 percent of its eggs from other states. A California Department of Food and Agriculture rule says that an enclosure containing nine or more hens that produce eggs sold in the state needs at least 116 square inches (748 square centimeters) of floor space for each bird, a 73 percent boost over the current standard.

Voters in California approved Proposition 2 in 2008 calling for egg-laying hens to have space to move. Subsequently, Assembly Bill 1437 was signed into law, applying to all eggs sold in the shell in the state. These rules all go into effect Jan. 1.

Dancing chickens! Because our food isn’t expensive enough already, right?

Who does this idiocy hurt the most? Not the limousine liberals lounging around eating cage-free omelets, that’s for sure. Poor people. Raising the price of eggs hurts poor people.

The price disruptions have arrived just as consumption is increasing. Rising prices for beef, pork and chicken have made eggs a more popular source of protein. The average American will eat 266 eggs next year, up from 261 this year and the most since 1980, according the the Egg Industry Center in Ames, Iowa.

Hit ’em when they’re down!

Hey, the poor can always eat beans. They’re high in protein, and they’re vegan too! That’s gotta be California-approved.

MUST SEE VIDEO: Top Allison Grimes Donor Says She Will “F*ck ’em as soon as she gets elected” Referring to the Coal Industry

Top Democratic & Alison Grimes Donor, Niko Elmaleh

Hat/Tip to Project Veritas.

Democrat Alison Grimes is in a race to wrest Republican Mitch McConnell’s Senate seat from him in the upcoming November elections.

When you hear Grimes campaigning, you’d almost think she had an “R” after her name. I mean, according to her, she’s anti-Obama, anti-EPA Coal Regulations and pro-gun. However, James O’Keefe thought he’d do a bit of investigating and find out what the people in her organization really think about her position on coal.

So he did a two part investigation.

Here’s the first video in which he catches quite a number of people supporting her saying that she is lying about her support for coal.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, get ready for part two.

O’Keefe sent some of his staff to talk to some of the top-dollar Democratic Party donors about Grimes’ stance on coal.

The result was jaw-dropping in its brutal honesty.

Here’s a partial transcript:

PV: And you think Alison will help us get rid of coal?

Niko Elmaleh: Absolutely.

PV: Yes? But she doesn’t say it.

Niko Elmaleh: It’s not about talking.

PV: She’s got to get elected.

Niko Elmaleh: It’s about doing it.

PV: It’s not about talking about it. It’s about doing it.

Niko Elmaleh: Hey, you want to talk about it or you want to do it?

PV: Do it.

VO: This Grimes campaign insider has no doubts about who the real Allison Grimes is and what she believes.

PV: So you know that Alison will help us stop coal?

Niko Elmaleh: Come on Dude. What do you think?

PV: I think yes, but I haven’t heard it straight up.

Niko Elmaleh: She can’t say it straight up.

PV: She supports big coal.

Niko Elmaleh: No. She’s going to fuck ‘em as soon as she gets elected.

PV: Really?

Niko Elmaleh: Yeah. Take my word for it. Here. Take my word for it.

Niko Elmaleh: She’s going to have to do what she has to do to get elected and then she’s going to fuck them.

Niko Elmaleh: Okay trust me. She’s a killer.

VO: This is just one of our investigations looking at the upcoming election. Project Veritas will leave no stone unturned…no matter how nasty a creature we uncover by doing so.

PV: She supports big coal.

Niko Elmaleh: No. She’s going to fuck ‘em as soon as she gets elected.

EPA Chief Promises To Go After Republicans Who Question Agency Science

EPA Agency Chief, Gina McCarthy
EPA Agency Chief, Gina McCarthy

During her Senate confirmation hearings, then nominee for head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Gina McCarthy sang a song of cooperation and transparency that evidently fooled enough Republicans, and she ended up being confirmed.

Senator David Vitter (R-LA): On one of his first days in office, the President signed a memorandum entitled, “Transparency and Open Government” in which he committed to create “an unprecedented level” of openess and transparency. The President correctly stated “transparency promotes accountability.” Given the President’s commitment, will you promise today to release to the American public all of the underlying reserch data supporting the PM and ozone benefit studies that your office has used to support such costly regulations?EPA Cheif Nominee, Gina McCarthy: [The] EPA is committed to transparency with regard to the scientific basis of agency decision making. In setting the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and in assessing health benefits anticipated from air pollution regulations, EPA relies on the scientific studies that are published in the peer reviewed literature. EPA provides the information used ni regularty decisions, including the epidemiological studies, in the publicly available docket accompanying each rule making.

Read more of the confirmation hearings.

However, like so many in the Obama administration, when the rubber meets the road, transparency takes a back seat, or gets kicked out of the car entirely. EPA Chief McCarthy has now changed her tune from cooperation to obstruction.

Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy has issued a warning to Republicans who continue to question the integrity of the agency’s scientific data: we’re coming for you.

McCarthy told an audience at the National Academy of Sciences on Monday morning the agency will go after a “small but vocal group of critics” who are arguing the EPA is using “secret science” to push costly clean air regulations.

“Those critics conjure up claims of EPA secret science — but it’s not really about EPA science or secrets. It’s about challenging the credibility of world renowned scientists and institutions like Harvard University and the American Cancer Society,” McCarthy said, according to Politico.

Once again folks, the science is settled, the debate is over. In the Obama world, science doesn’t question and pursue knowledge. No. In the Obama world, science dictates and obfuscates.

“It’s about claiming that research is secret if researchers protect confidential personal health data from those who are not qualified to analyze it — and won’t agree to protect it,” she added. “If EPA is being accused of secret science because we rely on real scientists to conduct research, and independent scientists to peer review it, and scientists who’ve spent a lifetime studying the science to reproduce it — then so be it.”

But Senate Republicans aren’t happy about this and they seem to be willing to tacked the EPA head on.

House Republicans have backed a bill that would block the EPA from crafting regulations based on “secret” data. Republicans argue that such data was used to craft onerous regulations, like one promulgated in late 2012 to reduce soot levels.

That soot rule is supposed to yield $4 billion to $9 billion in benefits per year, while costing from $50 million to $350 million, but the data backing that claim up is not publicly available.

“For far too long, the EPA has approved regulations that have placed a crippling financial burden on economic growth in this country with no public evidence to justify their actions,” said Arizona Republican Rep. David Schweikert, who introduced the bill.

“Virtually every regulation proposed by the Obama administration has been justified by nontransparent data and unverifiable claims,” said Smith, who cosponsored the bill. “The American people foot the bill for EPA’s costly regulations, and they have a right to see the underlying science. Costly environmental regulations should be based on publicly available data so that independent scientists can verify the EPA’s claims.”

Only time will tell whether the Senate GOP is all bark or if it has any bite to it.

Hope and Change

“The U.S. government has now loaded up the books with so many laws, restrictions, regulations, and mandates, that not only is it impossible for citizens to know them all but it is impossible to live a full day of normal activities without committing at least one or more criminal acts, to the tune of an average of three felonies a day.” – Anthony Martin

“Think of the Democratic Party as what it really is: a criminal organization masquerading as a political party.” – David Kahane

Statistically speaking, if you could remove in one fell swoop all Democratic politicians from the study cited by Anthony Martin, the amount of criminal activity engaged in by the average American on a normal day would probably dip to less than one felony per capita. Now that’s what I call real progressive thinking!

EPA Declares War on Warmth: New, Meaningless Restrictions on Wood Stoves

I wonder if some industry group is behind the EPA effort to make it harder to use wood stoves for heat…

The EPA says that the new woodstove regulations are necessary to reduce the amount of fine particulate air pollution, known as PM 2.5, produced by the stoves. The regulations will apply to woodstoves, wood-pellet stoves, forced-air wood furnaces, wood boilers, fireplace inserts and masonry heaters built in 2015 or later.

Via The Associated Press:

Fine particulate pollution is made up of solid particles and liquid droplets that measure 2.5 micrometers in diameter or less. The EPA currently certifies non-catalytic wood stoves if they produce less than 7.5 grams of fine particulate per hour.

Fine particulate absorbed by breathing has been linked to heart attacks, decreased lung function and premature death in people with heart or lung disease.

The proposed EPA regulations would reduce that to 4.5 grams per hour for stoves manufactured after the regulations go into place next year.

The standards would tighten again in 2019. New stoves could emit just 1.3 grams per hour.

Wood heaters produced before the regulations go into effect, residential fireplaces, backyard fire containers or fire pits, and wood-fired cooking stoves will go unaffected by the new burdens.

Lots of people use wood for heat, either as a backup, or to augment central heating systems.  Then, there are people that actually use wood as their main source of heat.  These regulations seem dead set on penalizing those people, many of whom are either of the grid, or will adjust far more easily to being off the grid.  So, the EPA must target them.  That, and I’m sure that there are some crony capitalist folks making sure that the EPA hears about it.

And just think about this…

The EPA is attempting to regulate the smell of burning wood.

Ponder that for a while.

Do government Health Regulations Cause Hunger?

Here is the first post of our newest contributor, Teresa, of TeresAmerica.  Please welcome her to the team! -Matt

On December 5th Pope Francis had a private audience with leaders of  “Movimiento de Trabajadores Excluidos” (Excluded Workers Movement) of Argentina where he said:

“We are living in a throwaway culture where we easily leave over things, but people as well,” the Pope said.
“You recycle and with this, two things are produced: an ecological work, which is necessary, and on the other hand, a production that promotes brotherhood and gives dignity to one’s work, you are creative in your production, but also creative in caring for the earth, of the world in this ecological dimension.”

Wasted food, he continued, “can feed all the hungry people in the world.”

“Be conscious that food should not be wasted, because there are children who are hungry. Thank you for what you do,” he said.

After thinking a bit I came up with this question — Do government health regulations cause hunger, leave the poor hungry?

I don’t know how it is elsewhere, but in the United States restaurants are required to throw away all their food at the end of the night. The health departments regulations forbid restaurants from donating this food. If it wasn’t for government regulations we could have solved the problem of feeding the hungry at least in the U.S.

So, hence excessive govt. regulations causes hunger.

Insurance Industry Threatened With ‘Retribution’ if They Talk About ObamaCare Problems, Including People Not Keeping Plans

ObamaCare is causing a ton of problems.  Unless you’re under a rock, or watch MSNBC for your daily dose of Kool Aid, you know that.  But, the government doesn’t want you to know, and they’re trying to make people stop talking about it.  Today’s target is the insurance industry, who is being forced to cancel people’s plans because they are no longer compliant with ObamaCare’s myriad of regulations.  Believe it or not CNN has more…

Are even the lefties in the MSM giving the Obama administration some payback for being rough with them on message control?  Who knows, but these random acts of journalism are becoming less random.

Don’t worry, I’m not getting my hopes up.

On a side note, the insurance industry has been dealing with government for decades, and as the report notes, they do a ton of business with government funded plans.  Did they really think they could do that forever without being “bit?”  Government is force; if you play with fire, eventually, you’re going to g3et burned.  Big insurance is learning this now.  And, if the MSM keeps on telling the truth, they’re in for a smack too.

ObamaCare Damage: Schools Limiting Hours of Employees to Avoid ObamaCare Penalties

You mean that more people are going to lose hours because of ObamaCare?  Why yes, yes I do.  The Weekly Standard has more…

  • Lafayette School Corporation Has Had To Cut The Hours Of 150 Non-Certified Employees. “‘We cannot go out and raise the price of our product to assist us covering this. We would have to go the taxpayers and ask for some type of increase and I just don’t see that happening,’ said Les Huddle, superintendent of the Lafayette School Corporation, where more than 150 of the schools approximately 600 non-certified employees have had their hours reduced to meet the federal definition of part-time.” (Maureen Groppe, “Indiana Schools’ Dilemma: Offer Health Insurance To Part-Timers Or Cut Hours,” Courier-Journal, 6/8/13)
  • The Shelbyville Central School System Is Cutting Hours For Teacher Aides, Substitutes, Bus Drivers And Coaches.“The Shelbyville Central School System likewise is cutting back the hours of about 100 instructional aides as well as hours for some substitute teachers, bus drivers and coaches.”(Maureen Groppe, “Indiana Schools’ Dilemma: Offer Health Insurance To Part-Timers Or Cut Hours,” Courier-Journal, 6/8/13)

I wonder if these folks voted for Obama? And if they did, are they even aware that they helped do this to themselves?  Or, will they drink the Kool Aid that says that it’s always someone else’s fault?

“The Purge”; Suspend all regulation of the free market for one year…let’s see what happens

The other day I saw a trailer for a movie hitting theaters on June 7 called ‘The Purge.”  The premise of the story is about a family living in an America in the future trying to survive the annual purge.  What is the purge?  It’s a 12 hour period where all police, hospital, and emergency services are suspend and all crime becomes legal, even murder.  This government sanctioned purge allows people a release for one night to do whatever they want.  The other 364 days out of the year they live in an America that has an all time low employment and crime rate.  It’s widely accepted that the reason for this prosperous utopian society is because of the purge.  This science fiction thriller touches on the notion that we’re all ready to explode at some point and we’ve lost our capacity to govern our actions.  So with the advent of the purge people were allowed a release for their pent up anger and hostility.  Yes it’s a sad commentary on civilization and the nature of humanity, but all is not lost in this analysis.  I thought maybe there’s something to this.  What if you applied this same concept in a non-violent way to something meaningful that impacts each of us and improves the overall human condition.

That’s when it hit me.  Why not apply it to the free market.  For one year the free market system will not be regulated by outside forces.  People can start, build, produce, sell for a profit, any good or service without any regulation that inhibits their ability to succeed.  This purge would include capping taxes at a certain percentage because high corporate taxes stifle investment and without investment growth is inhibited.  The only rule people or corporations would need to follow is that they could not knowingly operate their businesses or act in a criminal manner in a what that would inflict harm on another individual.  If there’s a market for your service or good then the sky’s the limit.  What a beautiful concept.  If after one year the purge is a success, you can extend the purge for an additional year or indefinitely.  The way I see it this purge would allow the free market a release from the stifling regulations that hinder economic growth.  I think you would be amazed at where we would be in economic terms a year from now.  It would be like the free market of the founders.  If you have an idea and the drive to achieve it then go for it.

Think about it.  You could start any business without all the bureaucratic red tape and oppressive regulations that hinder growth.  How do you think that would change America?  My guess is we would see a year of economic growth unlike any in modern times.  We would not only leave China in the dust, but we would also greatly reduce the poverty rate in America.  Now that’s something I can get behind.  Let me know what you think of this idea.

Welcome to the World of ObamaCare: The 29er’s and the 49er’s

As ObamaCare continues to hit the country, we are seeing some new terminology emerge.  To get there, here is more from the WSJ…

Welcome to the strange new world of small-business hiring under ObamaCare. The law requires firms with 50 or more “full-time equivalent workers” to offer health plans to employees who work more than 30 hours a week. (The law says “equivalent” because two 15 hour a week workers equal one full-time worker.) Employers that pass the 50-employee threshold and don’t offer insurance face a $2,000 penalty for each uncovered worker beyond 30 employees. So by hiring the 50th worker, the firm pays a penalty on the previous 20 as well.

We’ve been covering this ever since the legislation passed,  It was very predictable to say that to avoid all of the complications and stay in business, that people would end up working less than 30 hours a week, and businesses would be wise to keep their workforce below 50.

A 2011 Hudson Institute study estimates that this insurance mandate will cost the franchise industry $6.4 billion and put 3.2 million jobs “at risk.” The insurance mandate is so onerous for small firms that Stephen Caldeira, president of the International Franchise Association, predicts that “Many stores will have to cut worker hours out of necessity. It could be the difference between staying in business or going out of business.” The franchise association says the average fast-food restaurant has profits of only about $50,000 to $100,000 and a margin of about 3.5%.

Because other federal employment regulations also kick in when a firm crosses the 50 worker threshold, employers are starting to cap payrolls at 49 full-time workers. These firms have come to be known as “49ers.” Businesses that hire young and lower-skilled workers are also starting to put a ceiling on the work week of below 30 hours. These firms are the new “29ers.” Part-time workers don’t have to be offered insurance under ObamaCare.

Well, there you have it.  We’ve been discussing this for a few years now.  The information was available.   If you voted for Obama, you voted for this.  Being a “low information voter” is no excuse.  Just remember that elections have consequences.

Eh, they’ll probably blame Bush.

Government and the Permanent Income Classes

socialism-class-warfare-against-the-united-statesThe other day I was having a conversation with an individual who like many on the left believes the rich needs to pay more in taxes.  When I asked why he believed this, he responded, “Because they can afford it and it’s the only fair thing to do.”  So my follow-up question was why can’t we afford it?  I could see the question caught him off guard.  He asked me to explain what I meant.  I said, “Why has it become more difficult for us to achieve success so that one day we too may reach the tax bracket you are proposing for the rich.”  I could tell by the tilt of his head and the perplexed look on his face he was struggling to come up with a rational answer.  He finally replied, “Because big corporations are in bed with the government and crafting laws that protect them and hurt the little guy.”  Finally some root cause analysis was being utilized to get to the root cause of our problem.  But there’s more to it than just big corporations in bed with the government.  There’s the tax code and the over-regulation of our free market.

These three variables do help create an environment where permanent income classes are becoming a very real thing.  With each regulation enacted, or a law implemented that favors big corporations over smaller startup companies or the tinkering of our success punishing tax code it becomes much more difficult for the lower income class to move up into the middle class income bracket and the middle class income to move up into the upper income tax bracket.  It creates barriers between the different income brackets that shackle us to our current income class.

This is why the President’s rhetoric about class warfare was so successful during the last election.  A permanent class feeling is sweeping over the people.  Couple this with the Federal Reserve devaluing the dollar and now you not only have an environment that reinforces permanent classes but one that attacks all income classes by diminishing our purchasing power.  Have you noticed how much harder it has become to stretch the dollar?  How the price of goods and fuel are going through the roof.  How there is less money in your paychecks.  President Obama’s policies combined with the printing of money by the Federal Reserve are a direct assault against all the classes.  And he wants you to believe the problem is the rich don’t pay their fair share.  This assertion that the rich don’t pay their fair share is also an attack on the lower and middle income classes.  Because no matter how you slice it whenever wealth is taken from the private sector to fund inefficient government programs, wealth is destroyed and we all suffer for it.  It’s too bad so many have third grade understanding about the creation and destruction of wealth and the impact both have on a society.

Ronald Reagan was correct when he said government is the problem.  Look at where it has led us.  We now live in an America where permanent income classes have become a very real thing for many Americans; created by government via its laws, policies, and regulations.  Maybe if more people understood this, the less enthusiastic they would be about embracing government and its policies that foster and establishes a new kind of America with permanent income classes.  Maybe they would finally see that government is indeed the problem. I’m not holding my breath…

Odds and Sods and Other Interesting Stuff

t least I hope you find the other stuff interesting.

Regulation Mania

Our poor country has suffered from regulatory mania for decades. It is the nature of the so-called progressive to want to control every aspect of our lives. Environmental radicals seem to care more about the well being of planet earth than they do about the well being of mankind. These people we know also have a political agenda and it is way to the left. Regulatory mania reached a peak in recent decades due to what is called “regulatory capture”. Regulatory capture occurs when the radical element that promotes an area being regulated manage to get themselves hired by the regulatory agency. When they get into a position where they have some control over who gets hired they hire like-minded people. Eventually, like in today’s Environmental Protection Agency, they are the agency.  In theory, the EPA should be an arm’s length mediator between protecting the publics well being from unwarranted contamination of the environment we all live in and protecting the publics well by finding ways that industries can still operate to produce products we want and need. Today the EPA cares nothing about our wants and needs.

I remember when the EPA was created by the Nixon administration and the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act became law. After the regulations were promulgated to to put the Clean Water  Act into action, one of first projects that caught national attention was the need to clean up Lake Erie. The consensus among environmentalist at the time was it would take over 100 years to clean up Lake Erie from the industrial waste that had been dumped into the lake for years and before commercial fishing could resume. As I recall, commercial fishing resumed in earnest in less than five years. So, with environmental activists, hysteria is a commonly used tool and, of course, the remedy is always setting regulatory standards at extreme levels.

Two stories in the news today caught my attention. One has to do with contaminated pork and the other has to do with a mini-cold rush occurring in a Colorado county. Along with comments on the second story  I will share with you some ithings peculiar about gold panning in Vanezuela that I think you will find interesting.

Contaminated Pork Scare

This ABC News headline was report by Yahoo News this morning_

Study Finds Most Pork Contaminated

That’s kind of scary, right? Well, there may be real reason to be scared but from what this article can tell us it may be a bit of over kill.

A sample of raw pork products from supermarkets around the United States found that yersinia enterocolitica, a lesser-known food-borne pathogen, was present in 69 percent of the products tested, according to a study released today by Consumer Reports.

According to the story the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says 100,000 people per year are infected by this pathogen and suffer symptoms of fever, cramps and bloody diarrhea. Well, not good, but from what we are told not life threatening. Later in the story the reader is advised to cook pork well and a specific temperature is even given. Maybe I am wrong, but I thought it was common knowledge that pork should be well cooked. I remember being told by my parents and by my health class teachers that pork should be well cooked for reasons other than today’s story. There is a parasite common in pigs that can survive light cooking and if eaten will take up residence in the new host and can cause serious health problems, even death. So, let’s hope there isn’t an unnecessary panic caused among the consumers that would hurt the pork industry. maybe a public service announcement campaign is in order to reeducate people about the proper way to cook pork. Also, let’s hope this doesn’t result in a lot of unnecessary new regulations if the problem isn’t any more serious than what it now appears to be.

Let’s Regulate Gold Panning

All of my professional career was in the mining industry and the last twenty years that I worked were in gold mining. It was god mining that brought me to Venezuela going on twenty-one years ago. So, I do have some knowledge of gold mining techniques including panning.

Panning for gold is ancient art. Alluvial particles of gold get carried down some rivers and is deposited in different places for a number of reason. This occurs because somewhere up-stream, the river erodes a vein structure in a rock outcrop, in which Mother Nature deposited gold. For many years in the US, people have made a hobby of panning for gold. No doubt they have dreams of finding a large nugget or even tracing their small findings to a mother lode. Simply stated the panning for alluvial gold is quite simple. It is an art and that art can be learned. Gold planners use what looks like a large concave plate, which may have several circular ridges in it. A panner will select a river that has some history for having alluvial gold in it and these rivers are often in areas with a history of gold mining, usually underground mines. The panner works normally close to a shore. He looks for an area where faster waters slow down over a more quite pool. Gold particles are moved along river by fast currents. The particles fall out of the stream and deposit where the water slows down. Gravity never fails to work.  An artisan panner will scoop up a hand full over river bottom material and place in the pan. Then using some of the river water they will use a motion that swirls the small pebbles and sand and finer particles with the water. They use a constant rhythm and tap one point on the pan with one hand. Always tapping on the same point. In this way the lighter particle are washed away. Bigger pieces will pick off and thrown away, too. In time, a small amount of small and fine particles will remain, which are still present because they are more dense than everything else that was put in the pan. The swirling and tapping will cause the remaining material to form an elongated oval shape. If there are any gold particles they will be visible on one extreme of this oval.  Okay. From years of observation,I have seen no evidence of any environmental harm caused by artisan gold panning. None the less the officials of Larimer County, Colorado believe they have a problem that must be controlled. Apparently, because of the high gold prices today, there are many more artisan gold panners make use of a river in this county. The local officials think they need to pass a law banning gold panning in their river or, at least, “REGULATE”  it to specific areas and times. I think this is a shame. As my wife often says: “When government finds people being happy, they have to do something to stop it.” It does seem that way, doesn’t it?

And now a brief story I hope you will enjoy about gold panning in Venezuela.

Venezuela has a long history of gold ming dating back to the first explorers from Europe. Near the town of El Callao, where I used to spend several days a week for over six years, is a river where local artisan gold panners have been practicing their art for more than a hundred years. Here is what I think you will find interesting. You would not want wade or swim in this or other near by rivers. Not because they are contaminated or anything like that. The reason is due to the dangerous things that live in these rivers. There are , for example, electric ells. Big ones. There are piranhas in these rivers. Normally not a threat unless you have an open cut, but just the same, not what you want to encounter while wading in a river. The third thing may be more myth than fact, but the story goes like this. People are warned to never urinate while in the rivers. Supposedly there is a small parasite which inhabits the rivers, which is attracted to urine. They are said to follow the trail of urine and enter the source and take up residence there. Now that is not a pleasant thought, isn’t it?

Well, now you know what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

War on Christians Escalates: Judge Forces Hobby Lobby to Violate Beliefs

Notice that there seems to be a war on Christianity under way?  Well, the folks at Hobby lobby have noticed, as they  went to court to escape the the ObamaCare regulations that require them to provide coverage for the abortion pill.  Unfortunately, it seems that at least one federal judge seems t think that Religious Freedom really doesn’t exist.

LifeNews reported:

A federal judge has issued a ruling siding with the Obama administration saying that it has the right to force Hobby Lobby, a Christian-owned and run company, to pay for drugs for women that may cause abortions.

The privately held retail chain with more than 500 arts and crafts stores in 41 states filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration over its HHS mandate. The company says it would face $1.3 million in fines on a daily basis starting in January if it fails to comply with the mandate, which requires religious employers to pay for or refer women for abortion-cause drugs that violate their conscience or religious beliefs.

The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma and the business says it is opposing the Health and Human Services “preventive services” mandate, which it says forces the Christian-owned-and-operated business to provide, without co-pay, the “morning after pill” and “week after pill” in their health insurance plan, or face crippling fines up to 1.3 million dollars per day.

“By being required to make a choice between sacrificing our faith or paying millions of dollars in fines, we essentially must choose which poison pill to swallow,” said David Green, Hobby Lobby CEO and founder. “We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate.”

However, U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton issued a ruling late Monday rejecting Hobby Lobby’s request to block the mandate. Judge Heaton said that the company doesn’t qualify for an exemption because it is not a church or religious group.

Now, it would be simple to point out that Muslims would scream, and be heard, of they were forced to sell bacon.  Vegans would complain, sue, and win, if they were forced to eat veal.  However, Christians are systematically targeted and shot down by judges.  But,I think there is more to it than simple discrimination-it the concerted effort to punish and drive Christians, and more importantly, that Jesus guy, from all aspects of public life.

As I see it, there are two motivations for this…

1.  Under the socialist utopia, there shall be no God before government.  Christians, particularly the ones that actually believe on their faith, put God before any else, especially government.  This prevents them from being the good drones that the government indoctrination machine wants to produce.  Without good drones, the liberal utopia collapses under the doubt of it’s citizens.   So, Christians must be punished, discriminated against, ridiculed, and persecuted, lest other people listen, and come to know the Jesus guy.

2. The “boss” of liberalism does not like God, and has spent considerable effort on attacking the followers of the Jesus guy.  He’s used Cultural Marxism (political correctness), Communism, Fascism, the Alinsky Method, and a myriad of other tactics and schemes to attack the followers, and prevent more people from hearing or believing the words of the Jesus guy.  This is just the latest in a long line of aggressions.  I would think that they “boss” of liberalism see’s his end-game coming, and he is accelerating his efforts, all in an attempt to eliminate any reference, or reverence for the Jesus guy from our society.

Either way, this is potentially a big in for the left.  Either Hobby Lobby sells out their faith, which shows them to be weak in faith, and not good example-or they close.  Either way, the Christian influence in society is diminished, and less people are under the influence of that pesky Jesus.

Layoff Update: Over 75,000 Lose Their Jobs Since Obama’s Election Day Victory

Categorize this under “elections have consequences.”  There is news on the layoff front. In the few days since President Obama won his surprising, fraud filled victory, over 75,000 people lost their jobs.  Breitbart has more…

The Department of Labor has announced that new jobless claims rose by a staggering 78,000 in the first week after the election, reaching a seasonally-adjusted total of 439,000. Over the past year, and in the weeks leading up to the election, jobless claims were said to be declining, dipping as low as 339,000, with the media proclaiming that they had reached the “lowest level in more than four years.” Now, suddenly, the news seems far less rosy.

From the Department of Labor press release this morning:

In the week ending November 10, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 439,000, an increase of 78,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 361,000. The 4-week moving average was 383,750, an increase of 11,750 from the previous week’s revised average of 372,000.

Some of the new claims, especially in New Jersey, were due to Hurricane Sandy–but these were offset by a decline in claims filed in New York. The highest numbers of new filings came from Pennsylvania and Ohio, where there were thousands of layoffs in the construction, manufacturing, and automobile industries.

This was predictable.  Bloggers and other Conservative sources were predicting this for some time prior to the election.  We knew that businesses were holding on to see if Romney would win.  They knew that if Romney won, the ObamaCare would be repealed.  They knew that their taxes wouldn’t be going up, and they knew that a wave of new regulations would be cancelled.  However, since Obama did win, they have to slash hours, jobs, or close altogether. America was warned.  The information was out there.  Even though the media didn;t discuss this before hand, and aren’t talking about it now, people can find it easily.

Elections have consequences.  And on November 6, 2012, people chose to vote themselves out of a job.  There are more coming, sadly, and I’ll continue to discuss it.  Since it doesn’t make Obama look good, You’ll have to read about it here, because the media won’t be covering it soon.

Elections Have Consequences: Let the Layoffs Begin!

In the run up to the election we had covered how many companies had planned layoffs due to Obama’s policies, as well as those that planned layoffs in the event that Obama was re-elected.  And, just as predicted, it has begun.  Here are a set of links and excerpts…

Small Businessman Lays off Workers to Avoid ObamaCare Taxes…

The HuffPo has the story…

The man identified himself as Stu, without giving a last name, and said he owns a small aviation services company. He told C-SPAN’s Washington Journal that he“simply can’t afford” to run his business if he has to comply with the the Affordable Care Act.

“Yesterday I called all my part-time employees in and said because Obama won I was cutting their hours from 30 to 25 a week so i would not fall under the Obamacare mandate,” Stu, who said he is from Williamson, Ga., told C-SPAN.

Under the Affordable Health Care Act, businesses with more than 50 workers arerequired to provide health care coverage for full-time employees or those working more than 30 hours per week. Darden Restaurants, the parent company of Red Lobster and The Olive Garden, announced in October that it would downgrade workers to part-time status to limit costs from Obamacare.

“I had to lay two full-timers off to get under the 50-person cap,” Stu told C-SPAN. “I tried to make sure that the people I had to lay off voted for Obama.”

Of course, the tone of the HuffPo story is that it’s the employer’s fault, which will be a consistent theme that emerges…that it’s not the policy that is putting people out of work, or businesses going under…it is greed of owners.

Businessman Lays Off off 22 of 114 Employees due to ObamaCare

The CBS Affiliate in Las Vegas has the story…

“David” (he asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) told Host Kevin Wall on 100.5 KXNT that “elections have consequences” and that “at the end of the day, I need to survive.”

Here’s an excerpt from the interview. Click the audio tab below to hear even more from this compelling conversation:

“I’ve done my share of educating my employees. I never tell them which way to vote. I believe in the free system we have, I believe in the right to choose who they want to be president, but I did explain as a business owner that I have always put my employees first. I always made sure that when I went without a paycheck that [I] made sure they were paid. And I explained that I always put them first and unfortunately I’m at a point where I’m being forced to have to worry about me and my family now and a business that I built from just me to 114 employees.

“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.

Of course, this business owner would be portrayed as a bad guy as well.

The War on Coal Takes More Victims…

WSIL TV has the story…

GALATIA — A local coal mine is cutting jobs and blaming it on politics. American Coal in Galatia laid off 54 miners on Wednesday, saying President Barack Obama’s re-election is bad news for the coal industry.

Layoffs are never easy for those losing their jobs, but for a region already economically depressed, the loss of 54 jobs cuts deeply. The sting is made all the more worse knowing the move could be politically motivated.

“There is no question that the United States coal industry is being destroyed by the actions of Barack H. Obama,” said Bob Murray, CEO of Murray Energy, during the Old King Coal Festival in September.

Murray authorized the pink slips at American Coal, a subsidiary company, just hours after the re-election of President Obama. In a news release, Murray Energy blamed the Obama Administration’s “War on Coal”, stating the layoffs were more severe in anticipation that the coal industry will get worse in the next four years.

That’s all for now.  I’ll be covering as many layoffs as I can see, and reminding the people that elections have consequences.

Obama’s War on Coal Kills More Jobs: Alpha Natural Resources to lay off 1200

Apparently, Obama is making good on his promise to put coal out of business, as Alpha Natural Resources announced plans to lay off a total of 1200 workers in Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.  The WAPO has more…

Alpha Natural Resources will cut its coal production by 15 percent and immediately lay off about 160 mineworkers while idling eight mines in Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Alpha Natural Resources becomes the latest in a series of coal mining companies to trim output and jobs this year as domestic coal-fired power plants shut down in the face of cheap new U.S. natural gas supplies, a weak economy, and environmental regulations. The company ranks as America’s second-largest coal producer by revenue and third-largest by production.

So then, when you order a bunch of coal fired power plants to close, you pretty much seal the fate of many workers.  And, if Obama is re-elected, this is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.
