Common sense tells us that if something becomes more expensive, less of it is consumed. And, if that something happens to minimum wage workers, the same is true.

A few days after Labor Day American Thinker ran a post titled Fast food strikers: meet your replacement robot. The article reported on how the far left SEIU had organized protests for raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour in several cities across America. Most of the protests took place near fast food restaurants. Many of the protestors were arrested for blocking traffic. The author  believes that these protests by striking fast food workers and others were designed as a ” propaganda exercise aimed at fomenting anger that could turn into voting for Democrats in November.”

Okay. This is  nothing new. What was  interesting is what the author reported next:

Meanwhile, with perfect timing, a company called Momentum Machines debuted a hamburger-making robot…

The company’s robot can “slice toppings like tomatoes and pickles immediately before it places the slice onto your burger, giving you the freshest burger possible.” The robot is “more consistent, more sanitary, and can produce ~360 hamburgers per hour.” That’s one burger every 10 seconds.

The next generation of the device will offer “custom meat grinds for every single customer. Want a patty with 1/3 pork and 2/3 bison ground to order? No problem.”

Momentum Machines cofounder Alexandros Vardakostas told Xconomy his “device isn’t meant to make employees more efficient. It’s meant to completely obviate them.”

So, if the fast food industry decides to install these types of robots, it will result in the loss of one of the few opportunities teenagers of getting a job. The SEIU could care less about teenage unemployment. They are not really interested in minimum wage workers. Their interest clearly lays with their higher paid union members. It’s common for their contracts to have a clause that requires the employers to raise all wages every time the government passes a law increasing the minimum wage. This is true even where the employer has no minimum wage positions in their work force.

So, you parents of teenagers are just going to have to work harder so you can give your sons and daughters a bigger allowance and you may want to think about fixing up that attic over the garage because it may be years before your children will be able to leave the nest.

The effort to provide millions of workers with a living wage put millions of workers out of a job, the SEIU Communist Party is leading protests against fast food joints all over the US.  Their demand is a $15 a hour minimum wage.  As usual, the SEIU Communists, being ignorant of how businesses actually work, fail to recognize the consequences of their actions; like higher prices…

Fight for 15

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has launched an expensive PR campaign calling for wages of at least $15 an hour in the fast-food industry. This Fight for 15 is part of a larger SEIU pressure campaign to unionize fast-food restaurants.[1] Hundreds of union activists have staged “walkouts” and protests across the country demanding the higher pay rate. These protests have attracted considerable media attention. However, if the SEIU achieved its stated goal, it would hurt the budgets of millions of moderate-income Americans.

No, Fast-Food Joints Cannot Absorb Cost Increases

Artificially inflating wages would substantially increase fast-food restaurants’ total costs—labor makes up a considerable portion of their budget. Chart 1 shows the financial statements of the average fast-food restaurant in 2013. Labor costs (26 percent) and food and material costs (31 percent) make up the majority of the typical restaurant budget.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the average cook in a fast-food restaurant earned $9.04 an hour in 2013.[2] The SEIU’s push for $15 an hour would consequently raise fast-food wages by at least 66 percent. Paying $15 an hour would raise fast-food restaurants’ total costs by approximately 15 percent.[3]

Fast-food restaurants could not pay this additional amount out of their profits. The typical restaurant has a profit margin of just 3 percent before taxes.[4] That works out to approximately $27,000 a year[5]—less than the annual cost of hiring one full-time employee at $15 an hour.[6] In order to raise wages, fast-food restaurants must raise prices.

Total Economic Effects

The Heritage Foundation constructed a simulation model using the data on the average fast-food restaurant’s income and expenses. (See Chart 1.) This model accounts for the sales that fast-food restaurants lose when they raise prices. (See the appendix for details of this model.) Chart 2 shows the effects of a $15-an-hour minimum wage on the fast-food industry.

The higher labor costs would initially force fast-food restaurants to raise their prices by 15 percent, which would drive down sales by 14 percent. This would force restaurants to raise prices again, pushing sales down further. In equilibrium the average fast-food restaurant would have to raise prices 38 percent.[10] Prices would rise roughly twice as much as the initial increase in labor costs.[11] Total sales and hours worked would both fall by 36 percent. Fast-food restaurant owners would also have to accept a 77 percent reduction in profits in order to stay in business—leaving them with an average profit of just $6,100 a year per store. Otherwise they would have to raise prices to an extent that would drive away their customer base.

You can see the rest over at Heritage.  It is well reference and researched.  And, since it is fact based, it will be attacked by regressives, who hate nothing more than when their shameless rhetoric is shredded by reality.

Here’s a schematic of what the burger-bot looks like and how it works. It occupies 24 square feet, so it’s much smaller than most assembly-line fast-food operations. It boasts “gourmet cooking methods never before used in a fast food restaurant” and will even deposit your completed burger into a bag. It’s a veritable Gutenberg printing press for hamburgers.

So, when faced with the prospective of going out of business, or ordering a robot, which do you think they will pick?
And, when hundreds of thousands of people are out of work because they fell for the SEIU’s snake oil, who will be blamed?

SEIU Supports ObamaCare: SEIU Rank and File Loses Jobs-Due to ObamaCare


Ready for a extra thick piece of irony cake?  As we all know, union bosses were big supporters of ObamaCare, funneling millions into democrat coffers.  However, as usual, the boss’s support of democrat causes the people they are supposed to “represent” to lose their jobs.  The SEIU is no exception. And, SEIU represented staff at East Niagara Hospital are being so well “represented” by the SEIU, they they don’t have to go to work-ever again!

Early last month, ENH [East Niagara Hospital] announced that they would have to cut over 10% of their full time staff, as well as being forced to consolidate their inpatient care and surgical services.  Full-time staff will be cut from 560 to 500.

Chairman George V.C. Muscato, released a statement laying the blame on Obamacare:

“The Hospital reached this decision due to the statewide trend of declining inpatient hospitalizations, declines in reimbursement, and most recently, the impacts of the Affordable Care Act.”

…and the train keeps rolling on.

Just think about it.  These people were forced to join the union (because unions are so great that you have tto be forced to join).  Then, the union takes money off of them, and used it to elect democrats.  The democrats enacted ObamaCare, which caused the people to lose their jobs!

And they’ll likely keep on voting democrat too!


Democrat Party Created Shutdown Mashup: Illegals can Gather-Veterans Cannot, Death Benefits Denied, Losing Control of Narrative? Updated with Water Fountain Handles


In our latest shutdown update, we have to look at what our Democratic Senators have created by refusing to vote on any House-passed Continuing Resolutions.

Veterans cannot visit open air memorials, but Illegal Aliens can have a rally on the Mall?

I guess when it comes to the Democrat Party Generated Government Shutdown, the pain is applied to WW II and Vietnam Veteran, but illegal aliens are A-OK! 

Nothing could be more emblematic of the Obama Regime than this. Even as it attempts to block off the open air World War II memorial to vets who traveled across the country to honor their fallen brothers, and other vets are chased away from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, illegal aliens are allowed to use the National Mall to protest the withering concept of American sovereignty:

A planned immigration reform rally will take place on the National Mall on Tuesday even though the site is closed due to the government shutdown.

Organizers for the “Camino Americano: March for Immigration Reform” were spotted Monday setting up a stage and equipment on the National Mall for the rally which will take place on Tuesday.

Dozens of leftist congresscritters are expected to attend, including Rep. Nasty Pelosi and the corrupt, child-molesting Senator Robert Menendez. The event is sponsored in part by the ACORN-affiliated SEIU, which spent $27 million helping Obama to power.

And, that event went on as scheduled, and some congresscritters even got arrested. 

Eight members of Congress were arrested during a Tuesday immigration rally on Washington, D.C.’s National Mall.

Several House Democrats sat in the middle of Independence Avenue and blocked rush hour traffic, according to the Star Tribune.

The representatives, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Rep. Al Green (D-TX), Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Rep. Jan Schawkowsky (D-IL) and Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), were then arrested by U.S. Capitol Police, spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider confirmed to TheBlaze.

The congressmen were charged with “crowding, obstructing, and incommoding” under D.C. Code 22-1307 and will be processed by the U.S. Capitol Police at 67 K Street, SW.

But, it’s OK to allow illegal immigrants and the SEIU (campaign contributors) to have a rally and visit.  But, not only do they discriminate against veterans, they disrespect the fallen dead as well. 

Last weekend, four members of the United States Army gave their all for our nation. As the families began to grieve for their loved ones, the Obama administration made their loss even worse by insultingly refusing to pay death benefits due to the government shutdown.

Fallen SoldiersNormally, $100,000 is wired to the surviving kin within 36 hours of losing a loved one to cover funeral expenses and the loss of the service members paycheck. It also assists family members with travel costs to Delaware in order to meet the plane carrying the body of their fallen soldier. Shannon Collins, who lost her son, said

“The government is hurting the wrong people…Families shouldn’t have to worry about how they’re going to bury their child.”

This behavior from our goverment is unacceptable.

Ashley Peters lost her husband last weekend, and said

 “It is upsetting because my husband died for his country, and now his family is left to worry.”

It would appear that the powers that be on the left are feeling some heat on this “disgrace.” Some of them, like Rep. Braley seem oblivious (he’s just mad his gym no longer has towel service), but some are taking it a little more seriously. Harry Reid said that this gratuity would “be restored, without any question.” We’re waiting. 

This really shows the length to which the Obama Administration and the Senate Democrats will go to punish patriotic Americans, all while honoring those that break our laws, and blaming the GOP.

However, there is some evidence that they may be losing control of the narrative here.  Take a look at this video, taken on the University of Colorado campus. 

If they are getting trashed on a University Campus, then they are losing it big time.  Can’t say anything else about it other than that.

People are realizing what we knew all along-that this POTUS is a petulant child-king.

And he’s got the water fountain handles to prove it.

In what looks like a spiteful move, the NPS even removed handles from water spigots along the Chesapeake and Ohio canal where bikers and joggers exercise as well as along the Great Allegheny Passage, just to ensure people don’t get any water from them.

But did he turn off the water fountains he set up for illegal aliens trespassing in Arizona? Hell no!

He’s also put Barrycades on national monuments. And locked them. Except when illegal aliens come knocking.

He threatened Senior Citizens with arrest for photographing Mount Rushmore and Old Faithful.

He actually arrested Vietnam veterans for honoring their fallen comrades.

Never Believe “Official” Crowd Estimates


Remember when the Tea Parties got going in the Spring on ’09?  Remember how there would be thousands, or even tens of thousands of people there, and the MSM would say “dozens?”  Remember how the MSM would cover Obama campaign 2012 events by only showing tight shot on Obama-because the place was half empty?   Remember how Glenn Beck filled the National Mall twice, and the MSM severely downplayed the attendance?     If you do, you know that the MSM cannot be trusted for anything, let alone crowd estimates for political events.   Well, when the right was being truthful, and provided aerial views to back up their claims, the left just makes it up as they go along.  For a great example, Weasel Zippers has a tweet from one SEIU organizer to another.

Don’t worry, they learned their lesson.  Next time, it won’t be a public tweet!  Liars never change, they just get better at not being caught.


SEIU Protester Suggests That McDonalds Workers “Might do Something to the Food”



I’ve covered the SEIU many times.  Beside having a big affinity for communism, the SEIU has an alleged history of sabotaging workplaces to get what they want.  Allegedly, even nursing home care…

Well, another union, the SEIU, has been accused of sabotaging patient care at nursing homes.  Big Government has more…

Union workers at Connecticut nursing homes represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are alleged to have vandalized and sabotaged assisted living facilities in Connecticut — including those that care for Alzheimer’s patients — during a mass walkout earlier this month.

HealthBridge, which owns the nursing homes, is calling for a criminal probe after union workers allegedly tampered with medication records, removed patient identification bands and even switched the ID bands of various Alzheimer’s patients after union workers voted to stage a walkout because they were unhappy with the progress of labor negotiations between the union and HealthBridge. 

I think it’s right to call for a criminal probe.  Medical ID’s are linked to the medications that the patient in question.  If the medications get mixed up, there can be serious consequences, including death.

Fast forward to now, and we see that  at least one SEIU goon is suggesting that McDonald’s workers might tamper with food unless their pay is raised to $15 an hour. 

So, it looks like the SEIU  is dead set on killing off more jobs, and holding consumer ransom to their unreasonable demands.  But, at least the union bosses will get more money to use to buy Democrat politicians!

NOTE:  It is unknown as to whether or not the SEIU is seeking to “represent” the McDonald’s workers, or that the man wearing the SEIU shirt was an official representative of the union.  It does, however, display an attitude common to union members.


One Consequence of Forced Union Membership



As the unions fight to keep forced union membership in Michigan, I thought it might be a good idea to re-visit a story we did in early 2011, about how the SEIU got the then Governor of Michigan, to make parents of disabled children members.  Of course, the SEIU got to take dues from them, in exchange for…nothing!

In other words, the SEIU has gotten to take millions of dollars from people that care for their disabled children. Because unions are so super great, that people have to be forced to join them.

Now, let’s flashback to a more current story…

The SEIU has taken over $33 million from the elderly and disabled in Michigan in the last six years through a unionization scheme it orchestrated when Jennifer Granholm was governor. The majority of these people had no idea they were being forced into a union.

When the Michigan Legislature and Gov. Rick Snyder acted to end the scheme, the SEIU took legal action and then spent at least $6 million — money taken from those caregivers without their consent to use it for politics — to try and lock the dues skim into the state constitution: It failed.

Every newspaper in the state editorialized against Proposal 4. The Detroit Free Press called it “easy to dismiss” and The Detroit News said it was a “crass power grab.”

Several families reached out to Michigan Capitol Confidential to tell their stories: The Haynes family, who look after their two adult children who have cerebral palsy; Steven Glossop, who looks after his mother who lives with medical complications following heart surgery and a stroke; the Milliron family, whose adult son Ronnie “cannot walk or talk and is like a 5-month old” needing to be spoon-fed; and Richard Nottage, who looked after his ex-wife for just a few weeks. All of those individuals had some sort of current or previous experience as union members outside of the SEIU.

If Michigan becomes a right-to-work state, no union could ever force a worker to pay dues or agency fees as a condition of employment, and unions would be forced to cater to their member’s needs.

And, as we posted yesterday, union goons are beating people down in order to keep taking money away from the elderly and disabled.  Because, as we all know, forced union membership is a right, and if you disagree, your kneecaps can be broken!


SEIU Considers Work Stoppage on Thanksgiving: The “More” to the Story


So, the SEIU wants to do a work stoppage at one of the busiest airports, and on the busiest travel day of the year.  Typically, we’d just look at this as yet another, “union goons screw up everyone’s holiday to get what they want.”  But, there is more to it than meets the eye.  For the preliminaries, take a look at this from Stop the ACLU…

(CBS LA) Employees at Los Angeles International Airport were considering plans Friday to walk off the job ahead on what is traditionally the busiest traveling day of the year.

But, hey, they really, really care or something.

A coalition of Southland labor and community leaders are calling for the protest of alleged violations by LAX contractor Aviation Safeguards (AVSG) after breaking their contract with the airport earlier this year.

Andrew Gross-Gaitan, the director of the Southern California Airports Division of SEIU, told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO that AVSG left more than 400 LAX workers without affordable family health care when it failed to comply with the city’s Living Wage Ordinance.

As many as 1,000 airport workers and union supporters are expected to march on Century Boulevard just as an estimated 1.8 million passengers are expected to travel through LAX over the holiday weekend.

SEIU marched in March, but there were not real delays. Now, Gross-Gaitan says ““It’s entirely possible there will be significant travel delays.” And big delays at a big airport can have a ripple effect across the country, as planes arrive very late at other airports, gumming up the works.

Now, the casual observer will look at this and think that the poor workers were cheating the workers.  But that is where the rest of the story comes in…

(LA Times) Company officials said their employees voted in December to reject or decertify their collective bargaining agreement with the SEIU before its expiration date. Since then, hourly wages have improved for the vast majority of employees, they said, and workers can choose the type of healthcare plan they want.

Now wait just a second here.  I thought the Union mantra is “this is what democracy looks like?”  I mean, if the workers VOTED, isn’t that DEMOCRACY?  Or, is this like any other leftist scenario, and it’s really only “democracy” if they win?


That’s a Nice Granny You Have There, be a Shame if Something Were to Happen to Her: SEIU Accused of Sabotaging Nursing Home Care

Before the union decided to strike, David Pickus, the president of the chapter, spoke about how inhumane HealthBridge officials were. 

“By their outrageous, inhumane and unlawful actions, HealthBridge has given workers no other alternative,” Pickus said after the vote to strike, according to “This is yet another instance of the wealthy 1 percent waging war on the 99 percent of us who work for a living.”

Sir, if these allegations are true, does it mean that the elderly are to abused to strike back at the mythical 1%?

I guess the mythical 99% do not include elderly people.


Unions Promise to Defend Voter Fraud?



This one is a tad bit confusing, to be honest.  As we are all aware, voter fraud is a problem, as well as voter registration fraud.  We also know that AG Holder, when he is not sending guns down Mexico way, has promised to not enforce the parts of Motor Voter that demands that deceased, or otherwise illegal voters are removed from the rolls.  What the law does permit is for outside groups to monitor these rolls.  However, it seems that some union goons have taken issue with that cause.  J. Christian Adams, at PJ Media, has the details…

The Communist (I do not use that term recklessly) publication People’s World has an article full of threats and libel from union thugs and Soros-funded voter fraud deniers directed at law abiding Americans: “Labor raising an ‘army of 400,000? for the 2012 elections.”

Groups like True the Vote and Judicial Watch are working to cleanse the voter rolls of ineligible and dead voters, using federal laws Eric Holder’s Justice Department won’t enforce.

Here is Larry Cohen, president of the Communications Workers of America, with an outright fairy tale.

“We know their game,” he said, they even have tried to criminalize voter registration — something that was always considered an act of good citizenship. We will not be deterred. If necessary we will be arrested, if that’s what it takes, to register voters — if that’s what it takes to protect democracy.”

Criminalize voter registration?  Where? How?  Note carefully the threat of lawlessness.  Cohen can’t help it.  A union scorpion will remain a union scorpion.   Another union scorpion, Arlene Holt-Baker of the AFL-CIO adds her threats:

The tea party groups, like the so called “Election Integrity” group in Maryland match names on the voter rolls to all kinds of other databases, including property tax information, arrest records or anything else they can find. Similar groups are at work in at least 30 states.

“We will work with our allies and coalition partners to stop this form of vote suppression,” said Holt Baker.

OK then, is Ms. Holt-Baker threatening illegal activities in order to insure that the dead vote…early and often?  Or, since there aren’t that many voter ID laws yet, are they guaranteeing the right for fake voters, non-citizens, or felons to vote…early and often?  I mean, if the Tea Party groups are helping to purge the rolls of dead people, and otherwise ineligible voters, and the unions want to stop it?  Also, “working with our allies to stop” the dead from voting, pretty much means harassment, intimidation, or even violence.

We also must consider that certail unions have a history of, shall we say, questionable voter registration practices…

Gateway Pundit has the coverage of both “busts” of the SEIU front group. Here is the first.

Yesterday, the Yuma Sun reported that two organizations Mi Familia Vota and One Vote Arizona submitted more than 3,000 voter registrations in Yuma County right before the deadline for registering voters. The groups submitted over 20,000 registrations statewide.

What the Yuma Sun did not tell you is that over 65% of these last minute registrations were invalid due to the registrant not being a citizen, a wrong/invalid address, or a false signature.

And, that’s not the only area in which they were caught…

The same SEIU offshoot group that is accused of turning in thousands of bogus voter registrations in Arizona has come under fire in Colorado.
Mi Familia Vota is accused of turning in 6,000 bogus voter registrations in Colorado.

So, same group, same process, different city.

Obviously the unions are different, but the process seems to be similar.  Mr. Cohen and Ms. Holt-Baker both seem to be willing to get their rank and file arrested to keep the dead (and other ineligible persons) voting.  And, all the while, they’ll claim to be the victims.


#Occupy and Union Thugs Plans to Disrupt CPAC: Intimidation, Vandalism, and Violence to be Recorded?


Isn’t it interesting that the movement that purports to be all about free speech and democracy tends to limit the free speech of others?  Well, it seems that #Occupy, and specifically, Occupy DC, plan to disrupt CPAC.  The most influential Conservative gathering in the US, CPAC attracts all of the big names in the Conservative world.  Presidential candidates, pundits, media, bloggers, and the like will descend on DC this week.  And, the Occupods will be there to greet them.  Here is more from the Washington Examiner…

I’m attending the Conservative Political Action Conference in DC this week. It looks like I’m in for a show:

During a Thursday meeting at McPherson Square, until Saturday the epicenter of the protests, Occupiers brainstormed tactics for shutting down or disrupting the conference, according to a source who was present at the meeting.

The protesters suggested pulling fire alarms in the hotel where the conference will take place, screaming “fire” during conference activities, “glitter-bombing” participants, cutting electrical power, and barricading entrances to the hotel, according to the source, who requested anonymity.

“Speakers will be physically assaulted, not just verbally confronted,” the source told Scribe in an email. Two Occupiers, who the source also identified as members of the New Black Panther Party, “said they would be disappointed if they didn’t get arrested and planned to ‘make it count.’”

The source quoted another protester as saying, “Mitt [Romney] has Secret Service now, but [Newt] Gingrich and [Andrew] Breitbart don’t,” seemingly suggesting that the latter two would not be as heavily guarded.

Labor Union Report is noting that the union goons plan on having a presence as well.

Apparently, the unions plans to attempt to disrupt the conference with rats, puppets, and more:

There is also a Facebook page for Occupy CPAC, posted by Change to Win staffer, Trina Tocco. It is important to note that Change to Win is the SEIU-led federation that broke away from the AFL-CIO in 2005—which means both union federations are involved in planning the attacks on CPAC.

I wonder if the occupods realize that any attacks on CPAC will be thoroughly recorded and posted?  And, it won’t matter a bit if the MSM won’t cover it.  Millions of people that read blogs, watch videos on YouTube, and view FOX will get to see multiple examples of union violence,  occupod vandalism, and basic moonbattery.  The attendees aren’t going to back down, and we’ll see some great footage of that as well.  The more both union thugs and occupods engage in their typical petulant child/intimidation tactics, the more it is recorded, and the more it is exposed.  It will fail, and we bloggers will have a wealth of source material.

In other words, just bring it.  We’ll only be stronger when the smoke clears.

Where would one begin on refuting this?  It is pretty amazing.  She doesn’t discuss union violence, or that people are forced to join unions.  She doesn’t discuss the violence, the rapes, the vandalism, and the open calls for Communist revolution at OWS.  She does do a great job in painting things as all “touchy- feely,” that is, until you remember that “touchy-feely” to a union member means the feeling you get when they are beating you down for disagreeing with them.

A Tale of Two Stories: Lowes not Advertising on “All-American Muslim,” is bad, but Boycotting Glenn Beck was Perfectly OK


In another not-at-all shocking example of a double standard, Lowes is taking some heat for choosing not to advertise on the TLC show, “All-American Muslim.”  The Blaze has some coverage here…

Hardware retail giant Lowe’s has pulled its commercials from all future episodes of TLC’s reality TV show “All-American Muslim,” the chain said this week.

The conservative Florida Family Association has been leading a campaign to get retailers to pull their advertisements from the show. On Tuesday, it posted an email from a Lowe‘s representative who said Lowe’s will no longer be advertising during “All-American Muslim,” which chronicles the lives of several Muslim-American families living in Dearborn, Mich.

“While we continue to advertise on various cable networks, including TLC, there are certain programs that do not meet Lowe’s advertising guidelines, including the show you brought to our attention. Lowe’s will no longer be advertising on that program,” the Lowe’s representative said.

However, the retail giant is finding itself in hot water for that decision.  Here is some more, from another post at The Blaze…

“Some people” includes a California state senator (who‘s exploring whether Lowe’s decision violated any laws), Def Jam founder/Foundation for Ethnic Understanding chairman Russell Simmons, and millions of Americans, reports Gawker.

“Lowe’s community manager has probably been chugging aspirin-infused milkshakes all weekend considering the thousands of critical comments people have posted to the company’s Facebook,” the Gawker report continues, “Though given the radio silence on the company’s Twitter feed, maybe that person quit their job altogether.”

As mentioned in the Gawker article, a state senator from Southern California said Sunday that he was considering calling for a boycott.

Calling the Lowe’s decision “un-American“ and ”naked religious bigotry,” Sen. Ted Lieu (D-CA) told The Associated Press he would also consider legislative action if Lowe‘s doesn’t apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads. The senator sent a letter outlining his complaints to Lowe’s Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Niblock.

Now, let’s get this straight.  A Conservative group (that I’ve frankly never heard of until now), manages to get Lowes to pull it’s advertising, and politicians want to investigate them, and “millions” are allegedly outraged?

Where have we seen something like this before?  And was the reaction from the political left, shall we say, slightly different?

Oh, that’s right.  It seems that these same lefties weren’t so outraged when folks were doing far much more to get Glenn Beck off of FOX.  Here is a post from (note that the site is gone, but still available via Google cache)

Washington Post: 200+ Companies Boycott Glenn Beck’s Program

In a recent article on Fox News’ internal distress over Glenn Beck, Howard Kurtz from the Washington Post reports (emphasis added):

More than 200 companies have joined a boycott of Beck’s program, making it difficult for Fox to sell ads. The time has instead been sold to smaller firms offering such products as Kaopectate, Carbonite, 1-800-PetMeds and Goldline International. A handful of advertisers, such as Apple, have abandoned Fox altogether. Network executives say they believe they could charge higher rates if the host were more widely acceptable to advertisers.

This is excellent news and consistent with the StopBeck effort’s internal numbers.  One bit of information that Mr. Kurtz left out is that all advertisers in the U.K. have abandoned his show.  Consequently, in the U.K., Glenn Beck’s show has run without any commercials since February 9.

A recent post at The Hollywood Reporter underscores the significance of Mr. Beck’s sponsor loss:

But its easy to forget that ratings only matter if your numbers can successfully convince advertisers to purchase time on a program. To hear Kurtz tell it, Beck’s program is like that “Twilight Zone” episode where a librarian is left alone with a million books and a broken pair of glasses.

As an aside the discrepancy between my public list, which lists 136 advertisers, and Mr. Kurtz’s is the result of two issues:

  1. Some advertisers drop Glenn Beck, but refuse to acknowledge it publicly. (Our recent situation with Discovery is likely an example of this).
  2. Some advertisers pre-empt being the target of the advertiser boycott by simply excluding Glenn Beck from their ad agreements prior to airing their ads.

Kurtz’s report confirms that Glenn Beck’s sponsor loss is having an actual effect.  It should also amplify calls from NewsCorp shareholders and media watchdogs for answers to two questions:

  • Why does Mr. Murdoch and Fox News continue to absorb the financial losses caused by Glenn Beck’s program?
  • And, what is their plan for dealing with it going forward?

Glenn Beck’s sponsor loss is the result of action by participants in the StopBeck effort as well as work from great organizations like Color of Change, Media Matters and SEIU.

Your tweets and emails to sponsors do matter.

So then, we have the familiar double standard-if leftists want someone silenced, it’s all good.  However, anyone else wanting to do the same, is un-American and evil.

Useful Idiot of the Month Poll: October 2011

3.  Geraldo Rivera: For sucking up the the Occupods, even though they abused him.

4.  Michael Moore:  The great mockumentary maker maintained that he was not part of the 1%, until he finally admitted it.

5.  John Huntsman:  Token RINO

6.  Joe Biden:  Be prepared to be raped if Obama’s plan doesn’t get passed.

7.  Rick Perry:  RINO in Conservative clothing.

8.  SEIU

9.  Jean Quan: Dem mayor of Oakland, who has caved to the violent Occupods in that city.

SEIU Alinsky Styled Guide Revealed: Thug Tactics Abound


Back in March, we discussed the fact the SEIU was being sued by Sodexo under the RICO statute.  

 It seems that the SEIU has had a RICO suit filed against them by Sodexo, a service company that the union wanted to “organize.”  Take a look at what happens to you when you resist the SEIU…

Sodexo USA recognizes the value of union activity and has built positive relationships with more than 30 different unions.  Over 15 percent of Sodexo USA’s workforce is unionized, which is more than twice the national average for the private sector, and the Company has more than 300 collective bargaining agreements.  Despite this positive record, the SEIU has engaged in a vicious campaign to force the Company into broadly recognizing the SEIU to the exclusion of other unions without allowing its employees in the U.S. to exercise their right to vote for or against the SEIU in a federally supervised secret ballot election.

The complaint alleges that the SEIU, in face to face meetings, threatened Sodexo USA’s executives that it would harm Sodexo USA’s business unless they gave in to the union, and then carried out its threats through egregious behavior, including:

    • throwing plastic roaches onto food being served by Sodexo USA at a high profile event;
    • scaring hospital patients by insinuating that Sodexo USA food contained bugs, rat droppings, mold and flies;
    • lying to interfere with Sodexo USA business and sneaking into elementary schools to avoid security;
    • violating lobbying laws to steer business away from Sodexo USA, even at the risk of costing Sodexo USA employees their jobs; and
    • harassing Sodexo USA employees by threatening to accuse them of wrongdoing.

Well, we’ve all heard of this before.  If  Sodexo can prove this, and get witnesses to come forward…life will get very interesting for the purple people beaters. And, if they win, then perhaps other victims of the SEIU would be willing to come forward with their own claims.

At any rate, this might just get interesting.

Well, it got VERY interesting.  

As part of the public inquiry undergone with the lawsuit, the SEIU was forced to release , a “Contract Campaign Manual” destined for internal use. Machiaveli fans, this is your next read. The manual is a proper A, B, C of union campaigns and how to put pressure on corporations as well as generate and exploit media attention. It provides an unprecedented peek into the union’s own policy regarding corporate campaigns.

I would strongly encourage you to download this document and give it a good review.  It is a guide to how the SEIU operates.  Essentially, they no longer focus solely on organizing workers.  I would guess that too many of them decline to participate.  Instead, they try to organize the target company’s leadership.  That way, it is possible to bypass secret ballot elections (that they might lose).

As for the tactics involved, they read as case examples from Rules for Radicals...

The new union tactic is to use pressure on corporate boardrooms as a means of organizing entire companies nationwide rather than recruiting workers on a site-by-site basis; in short, to organize employers rather than employees. To create this pressure, unions attempt to push businesses to the edge of bankruptcy, with little regard for the welfare of employer and employee. They attempt to strong-arm businesses into agreeing to take away the secret ballot for employees in union-organizing elections via card check. They also try to force employers to restrict their own speech on union issues so that workers will not get both sides of the story on unionization. Among the SEIU’s demands is that employers agree to bargain only with it, to the exclusion of all other unions, regardless of what workers want.

SEIU’s manual details how “outside pressure can involve jeopardizing relationships between the employer and lenders, investors, stockholders, customers, clients, patients, tenants, politicians, or others on whom the employer depends for funds.” The union advises using legal and regulatory pressure to “threaten the employer with costly action by government agencies or the courts.”

It details the use of community groups to “damage an employer’s public image and ties with community leaders and organizations.” SEIUrecommends going after company officials personally. Not mincing words,SEIU states, “It may be a violation of blackmail and extortion laws to threaten management officials with release of ‘dirt’ about them if they don’t settle a contract. But there is no law against union members who are angry at their employer deciding to uncover and publicize factual information about individual managers.

And that, my friends, is just the tip of the iceberg.  For some reason, I missed this story when it first broke, but it is still worthy of discussion.  I would recommend sharing the link for the manual with as many people as possible.  It isn’t like the MSM is going to say a peep about it, and the more people that know about union thug tactics, the better.
