Hat/Tip to BuzzPo.

Wow, and we thought that there were “Escalade-driving, Bling-wearing, pay for my New York Strip Steak with my Foodstamps” welfare queens here in America. But get a load of this Aussie throwin’ her fit down-under.

The welfare system has completely run amok, and not just in America, folks. In fact, there are several other countries, like Great Britain and Australia, whose welfare programs are arguably even worse than our own.

In this alarming video, an international welfare queen loses her nut after getting denied benefits. Luckily, there was a reporter just outside the welfare building when the woman went bonkers, and he was able to capture her crazy spell.

In her obscene rant, the welfare queen blames everyone from the people working in the welfare office to current Prime Minister Tony Abbott for her situation.

The Wounded Warrior reports:

The reporter can be seen at times unable to keep a straight face as the woman’s ridiculously disproportionate rage leaves him smiling. He then asks the woman if she has a job, and although her answer isn’t shown, we can all safely assume the answer is “no.”

In today’s society, people would kill (well, hopefully not literally) for their rent to be $350, let alone have someone else foot the bill for it. You want to know how your rent should be paid? Do what the rest of the world does — grow up, get a job, be an adult, and handle your responsibilities like you’re supposed to.

ObamaCare down the drain

Sooner or later, everyone will be dependent on the government.

At least that seems to be the trend.

Medicaid, the public health insurance program expanded under the Affordable Care Act, now covers nearly one out of every five New Jersey residents, according to the latest enrollment figures.

More than 420,000 people signed up for insurance since New Jersey allowed more people to into the program, according to Valerie Harr, director of the division of medical assistance and health services for the N.J. Department of Human Services.

About 80,000 of those people already qualified for the program under the old income guidelines – but didn’t realize it until they attempted to enroll in Obamacare policies and found they were poor enough to qualify for Medicaid.

All told, 1.7 million New Jersey residents will now have the bulk of their medical expenses covered by Medicaid.

Obamanomics — it’s Trickle Up Poverty!

Of course, the Obamabots / Hillarians* consider putting 20 percent of New Jersey on the dole a success. Because they’re not paying for it.

But, those of us who are still dumb enough to be working for a living?

Annals Of The 47%: Obama Administration Made $125 Billion In ‘Improper’ Payments Last Year

Share

government-handoutsObama’s minions aren’t very good stewards of the public’s money.

In fact, they’re so bad, they set a new record for improper payments handouts.

Federal agencies made $125 billion in improper payments last year, including tax credits to people who didn’t qualify, Medicare payments for treatments that might not be necessary and unemployment benefits for people who were actually working, said a government report released Monday.

The level of improper payments was a new high after several years of declines. In addition to fraud, the errors included over payments and under payments, as well payments made without proper documentation.

While the errors were spread among 22 federal agencies, three programs stood out: Medicare, Medicaid and the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Together, the three programs accounted for more than $93 billion in improper payments, according to the report by the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress.

“This taxpayer money was not spent securing our borders, it was not spent on national defense, and it was not spent contributing to a safety net for those in need,” said Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. “This is a problem that is going to get worse year after year if we do not get a handle on it now.”

The “problem” is in the eye of the beholder Senator.

And in the eye of President Jarrett, everything is going according to plan.

Because every single one of those $125 billion dollars went toward buying votes for Democrats. What could be more important than that?

Homeland Security?

Puh-lease.

If the Obamabots were interested in Homeland Security they’d close the borders and keep Iran and Hezbollah on the terrorist watch list.

Instead they’re focused on one thing. Putting as many Americans as possible on the dole. Consumers of government vote for the party of government. And Democrats are masters at promising Free Stuff.

Just wait, the next two years of “improper payments” will make $125 billion look like a drop in the bucket. They’re gonna pull out all the stops to keep the White House firmly under their jackboots, which means levels of wealth transfer that would make Robin Hood blush.

Tax “refunds” to illegal aliens who never paid a dime of taxes in their lives.

ObamaCare subsidies to anybody with a pulse. And to the recently departed, especially if Social Security “forgot” to count them as dead.

College loan “forgiveness.”

More mortgage writedown shenanigans from the FHA too.

No grant is too small. No boondoggle too shameful. Federal largess will flow where votes are needed most, while their propagandists in the press fan the flames of racial and class discord. It’s the Progressives’ Battle Of The Bulge, their last-ditch effort to cement socialism as the successor to the great American republic.

And when we really do run out of other people’s money? Hey, that’s Hillary’s problem.

One Chart Disproves Obama’s Claims That He Is A “Deficit Cutter” – Who Made The Chart? Obama’s Federal Reserve…

Share

FRED Chart 001

Hat/Tip to Doug Ross @ Journal.

Just a few short days ago, President Obama uttered these words in his 2015 State of the Union speech:

At every step, we were told our goals were misguided or too ambitious; that we would crush jobs and explode deficits. Instead, we’ve seen the fastest economic growth in over a decade, our deficits cut by two-thirds, a stock market that has doubled, and health care inflation at its lowest rate in fifty years.

Now I won’t spend time debunking the four lies he told in that short excerpt, instead let’s look at just his claim that he’s a “deficit cutter” in this great article from over at Doug Ross’ place:

ONE CHART IS ALL IT TAKES: The Ludicrous Claims of Obama as a “Deficit-Cutter”

Oh, and did I mention the chart itself comes from the Obama Federal Reserve?

Put simply, any claims linking President Obama to fiscal responsibility are somewhat akin to using Michael Moore as a spokesperson for Jenny Craig.

By the time this walking economic catastrophe has left office, the total federal debt will have doubled. All of the debts rung up in all of American history will have doubled in eight short years.

Every governmental oversight office — from the CBO to the GAO — is warning that the debt is “unsustainable”. Interest payments on the debt will double in just the next five years, from $266.7 billion currently to $578.3 billion in 2020. And the Obama administration’s forecast shows interest payments rising to $785 billion per year by 2025.

And let’s not forget Obama’s failure to even talk about the looming entitlement crisis.

The system is headed for collapse. And Obama has only added fuel to the fire.

Dependency Nation: More Than One Third of Americans On Government Assistance

Share

 photo governmentassitance_zps4c1340e2.jpeg

.

Let’s say Obama has a plan to build a permanent Democrat majority. A plan that will guarantee Hillary Clinton wins the White House in 2016. A plan which takes precedence over all other concerns, no matter what the cost to America’s short-term well-being or long-term prospects for security and prosperity.

I suspect he (well, actually, Valerie Jarrett) does, and I’d say it looks something like this.

Newly released Census data reveals nearly 110 million Americans — more than one-third of the country — are receiving government assistance of some kind.

The number counts people receiving what are known as “means-tested” federal benefits, or subsidies based on income. This includes welfare programs ranging from food stamps to subsidized housing to the program most commonly referred to as “welfare,” Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

At the end of 2012, according to the stats, 51.5 million were on food stamps, while 83 million were collecting Medicaid — with some benefitting from multiple programs.

Though the programs were created to help those in need, some analysts worry that the way they’re designed is, increasingly, incentivizing people not to work. They note that when recipients combine several government assistance programs, in many cases they pay better than going to work.

The Cato Institute’s Michael Tanner said that in the eight most generous states, the benefits can be tantamount to a $20 minimum wage — which would exceed the $7.25 minimum wage in most states.

“So in many cases people could actually do better on welfare than they could in an entry level job,” Tanner said.

When people are beholden to the government for sustenance, they tend to vote for the politicians who promise them more of that sustenance.

And nobody is better at promising unlimited Free Stuff than today’s Democratic Party. Remember the woman who said Obama was going to pay her mortgage? The entitlement mentality is seductive, and contagious.

It’s also ridiculously easy to make promises, and then blame “evil Republicans” when you don’t deliver. The goal isn’t to help people; the goal is to keep people dependent, and voting your way.

In other words, the goal is Power. Power at any cost.

Barack Obama never intended to govern.

Barack Obama is a permanent campaigner, skilled at drumming up primal emotions, and then focusing them for the benefit of his Party. The incongruity of his Class Warfare rhetoric is lost on the guilty white liberal donors who pour millions of dollars into his coffers at every opportunity. And all that matters to Obama is that the money flows into electing, and re-electing Democrats.

Hence he eschews policies which might jeopardize their hegemony.

Building the Keystone Pipeline might piss off the econuts, and he needs their cash.

Fighting Islamic terrorists might piss off the kumbaya crowd, and he needs their cash too.

Promoting private sector job growth might dilute the culture of dependency, and he needs every vote he can get.

Helping businesses succeed might make the unions wonder why he isn’t raising taxes instead, and he needs their votes too.

Stopping the invasion on our southern border might upset La Raza, and he needs their anger and envy to keep them from wanting to embrace what we used to call The American Dream.

You know, there’s the really sad legacy of Obama and the Democrats.

Once upon a time it was said that the business of America is Business.

They’ve turned that old saw on its head. The business of America is dependency. Wealth transfer. Class envy. Business is a dirty word.

Why work? Vote Democrat and somebody else will do that. Then, as your reward, the government will mail you checks.

You gotta admit it’s a sweet deal.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. — Alexander Tyler

Or, as Lady Thatcher put it, sooner or later they’ll run out of other people’s money.

Then what?

“As a Congress we need to step up and point out and take charge and point out when the President is going beyond his constitutional powers, which is frequent, and we have got to do something about it …” – Rep. Justin Amash

While the legislature dithers, the hematophagic minions of the Left are swooping down upon our defenseless hatchlings.  Get ‘em while they’re young; there’s no such beast as a natural-born socialist:

First Obamacare, Now Obamacore – Part 1: Common Core Sows Seeds of Socialism in Young (Somewhat Reasonable)

[…] the very roots of Common Core are in the early ideas generated by Obama and his fellow radical community organizer, Bill Ayers. It was Obama who headed the Chicago Annenberg Challenge from 1995 to 1999, a school “reform” organization founded by Bill Ayers, which funneled more than $100 million into community organizations and radical education activists.

Indoctrinations Lessons such as these should chill the blood of any progenitor not named “Obama”:

Teaching materials aligned with the controversial national educational standards ask fifth-graders to edit such sentences as “(The president) makes sure the laws of the country are fair,” “The wants of an individual are less important than the well-being of the nation” and “the commands of government officials must be obeyed by all.” The sentences, which appear in worksheets published by New Jersey-based Pearson Education, are presented not only for their substance, but also to teach children how to streamline bulky writing.

Public education was boring enough in the good old days when it taught mostly readin’ and ‘ritin’ and ‘rithmetic; forcible instruction by teacher’s union members in the tedious precepts of progressivism should have kids dropping out of schools by the busload as soon as they’re old enough to drive.

Nanny State

If you ever wondered about the source of inter generational poverty, it’s name is government.  Check this out…

It has all the hallmarks, like the penalization of success and the rewarding of failure. The incentive to stay in the system vs. working. It’s all there. This is exactly where the democrats want them, dependent, and ignorant. A permanent underclass is necessary to keep democrats in power. Since the slaves on the government plantation have been convinced that they cannot survive in the real world, they will show up at the polls to keep the gravy flowing. after all, those “evil and racist Republicans” might make them “work,” or some strange thing like that!

Things that You Need an ID to do, But Voter ID is Racist!

Share

It seems that people get through life just fine with needing an ID to access products of government services.  However, to vote?  Why sir, that’s racist!

The Washington Examiner compiles 24 things that you must have an ID to purchase, I don’t hear much from liberals about how any of these things are racist. When it comes to protecting the integrity of what keeps America from turning into a dictatorship, showing an ID is definitely racist.

Mind Boggling.

Below are just some of the examples of things you need to prove your identity for:

1. Alcohol

2. Cigarettes

3. Opening a bank account

4. Apply for food stamps

5. Apply for welfare

6. Apply for Medicaid/Social Security

7. Apply for unemployment or a job

8. Rent/buy a house, apply for a mortgage

9. Drive/buy/rent a car

10. Get on an airplane

11. Get married

12. Purchase a gun

Startling Story on Disability in America… Stunning and Sad

Share

From a very well researched NPR story Unfit for Work: The Startling Rise in Disability in America (excerpts only from a much longer story, with emphasis added by me):

…In the past three decades, the number of Americans who are on disability has skyrocketed. The rise has come even as medical advances have allowed many more people to remain on the job, and new laws have banned workplace discrimination against the disabled. Every month, 14 million people now get a disability check from the government.

The federal government spends more money each year on cash payments for disabled former workers than it spends on food stamps and welfare combined. Yet people relying on disability payments are often overlooked in discussions of the social safety net. The vast majority of people on federal disability do not work.[1] Yet because they are not technically part of the labor force, they are not counted among the unemployed.

In other words, people on disability don’t show up in any of the places we usually look to see how the economy is doing. But the story of these programs — who goes on them, and why, and what happens after that — is, to a large extent, the story of the U.S. economy. It’s the story not only of an aging workforce, but also of a hidden, increasingly expensive safety net….

…People don’t seem to be faking this pain, but it gets confusing. I have back pain. My editor has a herniated disc, and he works harder than anyone I know. There must be millions of people with asthma and diabetes who go to work every day. Who gets to decide whether, say, back pain makes someone disabled?

As far as the federal government is concerned, you’re disabled if you have a medical condition that makes it impossible to work. In practice, it’s a judgment call made in doctors’ offices and courtrooms around the country. The health problems where there is most latitude for judgment — back pain, mental illness — are among the fastest growing causes of disability….

…Part of the rise in the number of people on disability is simply driven by the fact that the workforce is getting older, and older people tend to have more health problems.

But disability has also become a de facto welfare program for people without a lot of education or job skills. But it wasn’t supposed to serve this purpose; it’s not a retraining program designed to get people back onto their feet. Once people go onto disability, they almost never go back to work. Fewer than 1 percent of those who were on the federal program for disabled workers at the beginning of 2011 have returned to the workforce since then, one economist told me.

People who leave the workforce and go on disability qualify for Medicare, the government health care program that also covers the elderly. They also get disability payments from the government of about $13,000 a year. This isn’t great. But if your alternative is a minimum wage job that will pay you at most $15,000 a year, and probably does not include health insurance, disability may be a better option.

But, in most cases, going on disability means you will not work, you will not get a raise, you will not get whatever meaning people get from work.[2] Going on disability means, assuming you rely only on those disability payments, you will be poor for the rest of your life. That’s the deal. And it’s a deal 14 million Americans have signed up for….

…A person on welfare costs a state money. That same resident on disability doesn’t cost the state a cent, because the federal government covers the entire bill for people on disability. So states can save money by shifting people from welfare to disability. And the Public Consulting Group is glad to help. PCG is a private company that states pay to comb their welfare rolls and move as many people as possible onto disability….

…n the past few decades, an entire disability-industrial complex has emerged. It has just one goal: Push more people onto disability. And, sometimes, it seems like the government is outmatched. This is especially true in the legal system….

….”You might imagine a courtroom where on one side there’s the claimant and on the other side there’s a government attorney who is saying, ‘We need to protect the public interest and your client is not sufficiently deserving,'” the economist David Autor says. “Actually, it doesn’t work like that. There is no government lawyer on the other side of the room.”…

…Politicians pay lip service to this problem during election cycles, but American leaders have not sat down and come up with a comprehensive plan.

In the meantime, federal disability programs became our extremely expensive default plan. The two big disability programs, including health care for disabled workers, cost some $260 billion a year.

People at the Social Security Administration, which runs the federal disability programs, say we cannot afford this. The reserves in the disability insurance program are on track to run out in 2016, Steve Goss, the chief actuary at Social Security, told me.

Goss is confident that Congress will act to keep disability payments flowing, probably by taking money from the Social Security retirement fund. Of course, the retirement fund itself is on track to run out of money by 2035

This is a stunning report. Whomever wrote this poorly designed legislation should pay for chaining millions of people in soul-dragging poverty, whomever runs these poorly run programs should pay for degrading the condition of free people by sticking them in these programs, and whomever is judging on the proper use of taxpayer money in such a way should be impeached. They’re all criminal in their duty.

This is a very sad story, but one which we must all hear before we vote again for politicians who promise to put more people on government programs to ‘help’ more people, and instead simply enslave these poor people into a degrading government program that keeps them fed but in permanent poverty.

There are real systematic problems in our nation right now, and policy makers are robbing left and right from various funds to shore up these problems and will continue to shift and borrow and print money as long as possible, but in about 10 years the whole thing is going to come crashing down in an epic collapse. You have been warned.

Two Dozen IRS Employees Caught Claiming to be Unemployed to Collect Benefits!

Share

So, the people in charge of the money are being arrested for defrauding the taxpayers?  Well, it appears that two dozen IRS employees have claimed to be unemployed in order to collect benefits.  Doug Ross(no relation) has more…

But — but — but — I thought all who work in government are benevolent public servants? That they’re better than the rest of us? That they’re angels, working for the public good?

Twenty-four current and former Internal Revenue Service employees have been charged with stealing government benefits, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.

The IRS employees were indicted on charges that they illegally received more than $250,000 in benefits including unemployment insurance payments, food stamps, welfare, and housing vouchers, the U.S. attorney’s office in Memphis said in a news release.

Prosecutors say 13 of the IRS employees face federal charges of lying about being unemployed while applying for or recertifying their government benefits…

Doug has some more, so go check it out.

This, of course, begs the question-who watches the watchers?

Dependency Alert: Per Household, Welfare now Exceeds Median Income

Share

The nanny state has apparently tightened it’s stranglehold on the American soul.  Welfare expenditures now surpass the median American income.  Doug Ross (no relation) has more…

Rampant fraud and increased poverty:

‘Welfare Spending Equates to $168 Per Day for Every Household in Poverty’

The amount of money spent on welfare programs equals, when converted to cash payments, about “$168 per day for every household in poverty”…

…welfare spending per day per household in poverty is $168, which is higher than the $137 median income per day. When broken down per hour, welfare spending per hour per household in poverty is $30.60, which is higher than the $25.03 median income per hour.

I don’t think much more explanation is needed.  We are now on the slippery slope, and Obama is greasing the skids.

Elections have consequences, and remember to never call dependency on government dependency-it’s bad!

Government Spent Enough on Welfare in 2011 to Give Each Family in Poverty Over $59,000 Each

Share

A long term criticism of social programs, especially the entitlements, has been the massive waste associated with them.  Recently, a report was released that shows that if Welfare spending was concentrated, each family in poverty over $59,000 each.  CNS News has more…

According to a report from the CRS produced for Sen. Jeff Sessions(R-Ala.), $1 trillion was spent on federal welfare programs during fiscal year 2011 – with $746 billion in federal funds and $254 in state matching funds.

The U.S. Census Bureau reported that there were approximately 16.8 million households living below the federal poverty level of $23,000 per year for a family of four in 2011. ( See:  2011 Households Below Poverty 2011.pdf)

If each of the estimated 16.8 million households with income below the poverty level were to have received an equal share of the total welfare spending for fiscal year 2011, they each would have received $59,523.

Um, that’s more than my salary.  Not only that, does the assistance that they receive equal that amount?    I doubt it.  However, I think the following, from the same article, sums it up nicely…

In other words, if the government were to discontinue its myriad federal welfare programs, such as housing vouchers, food stamps, and Medicaid, and instead just wrote every poor household a check, it would nearly quadruple their income: increasing it from at most $23,000 per year to nearly $83,000 per year.

Welfare is Highest Single Budget in Item in 2011: 1.03 Trillion Dollars!

Share

Liberals often harp on Military spending, and wish to cut it, citing it’s percentage of the government.  However, under President Obama, Welfare spending alone has gone over 1.03 trillion dollars.  And yes, that is trillions with a “t.” The Lonely Conservative has more…

Welfare spending – that’s President Obama’s economic plan. Last year the federal government spent over $1 trillion on welfare programs. It’s the one thing Obama has been good at – getting people on the dole and hoping they vote for more.

The government spent approximately $1.03 trillion on 83 means-tested federal welfare programs in fiscal year 2011 alone — a price tag that makes welfare that year the government’s largest expenditure, according to new data released by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee.

The total sum taxpayers spent on federal welfare programs was derived from a new Congressional Research Service (CRS) report on federal welfare spending — which topped out at $745.84 billion for fiscal year 2011 — combined with an analysis from the Republican Senate Budget Committee staff of state spending on federal welfare programs (based on “The Oxford Handbook of State and Local Government Finance”), which reached $282.7 billion in fiscal year 2011.

The data excludes spending on Social Security, Medicare, means-tested health care for veterans without service-connected disabilities, and the means-tested veterans pension program. (Read More)

So, more welfare, more democrats?  That has been the theory for years.  the more people that get on the government drug, the more people that will vote to keep the benefits.

But whatever you do, never ever call it dependency!

Get Your Free Obama Phone

Share

“Call me; I need campaign money.”

He never delivered on the Obamamaniac’s desires for him to pay for their mortgage and gas, but Barack Obama  can give you a free phone. (Question: Since when does a government program have a .net address?)

Predictably, if you’re already sucking on the government teat, you automatically qualify for a phone:

If you, or members in your household are, receiving the following benefits you automatically qualify for the Lifeline program. Those interested in the program must have an income of less than 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. (For example in the 48 Contiguous States and D.C the income level is $22,350 per year for a family of four.)

  • Food Stamps or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Security Income – commonly known as SSI
  • Health Benefit Coverage under Child Health Insurance Plan (CHIP)
  • The National School Lunch Program’s Free Lunch Program.
  • Low-Income Energy Assistance Program – LIHEAP
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance ( Section 8 )
  • If you are a low-income Eligible Resident of Tribal Lands
  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families – TANF

Last year, the federal program paid out $1.6 billion to cover free cell phones and the monthly bills of 12.5 million wireless accounts. Naturally an audit showed that many people getting you to pay for their phones were taking more than their “fair share.”

269,000 wireless Lifeline subscribers were receiving free phones and monthly service from two or more carriers.

You can imagine the number of participants is only going to climb. I mean, it’s not like that money could be used to create jobs jobs jobs, or something.

But jobs have never been Obama’s top priority; getting re-elected has. Does he really think giving someone a free phone will buy their vote?

Oh. Wait.

Scary Numbers and Data: Record Number of Americans Take More Than They Give

Share

Anyone who has been paying attention already knows that about 50% of Americans pay no federal income taxes. That number alone should give us all pause. But, according to this Fox News articlethe situation is much worse.

“Right now about 70 percent of Americans take more out of the tax system than  they put into it, according to the Tax Foundation,” Brooks said.”That’s  something that should really alarm a lot of Americans.” (Bold added)

So, if the American Enterprise Institute is correct and 70% of the people take out more than they put in, then only 30% of the people are carrying the load of our federal government. Is that possible? Yes, it is. For example, our tax code allows some people to get refunds from the IRS far greater than what they paid in. These people are not doing anything to screw the rest of us. That is just the way the tax code works. Also, many people who are retired and receiving Social Security benefits have other income; such as pensions, that cause them to pay some income tax; but, far less than their SS benefits. On top of that we have more and more people living off of our welfare system. So, I suspect the American Enterprise Institute is correct when they say 70% of the people take more out of the  tax system than they pay into the tax system. That, my friends, is worrisome.

Let’s look at some more scary data in graphic form. This  graph I borrowed from Inform the Pundits blog. This is a graph of the percentage of people over the age of 16 who are actually participating in the workforce. Note that our current participation rate is as low as it was in the late 1970s. That’s bad but what is worse is the trend.

Labor Participation Rate Put Into Perspective

There is a graph at Zero Hedge that I am unable to embed that you must see. This the authors entire post on the graph

The comedy continues: the April “Not in labor force” seasonally adjusted print:88,419,000. And yet, the maximum reading permitted by St Louis Fed Not in Labor Force (LNS15000000) graph: 88,000,000. The data has now officially dropped off the chart. No further commentary necessary.

Again, look at the trend of that graph. That is alarming to say the least. Our government keeps reporting that unemployment is dropping; but that is only because fewer people are trying to enter the workforce. These trends are not sustainable for a viable economy. When Obama says the rich are not paying their fair share, he doesn’t know what he is talking about. If these trends continue, there will less and less people paying to support this monster we call government. Now, as the baby boomers retire it will make room for others to find work and that is good but don’t expect the workforce participation rate to improve.
If these trends are not worrisome enough, let me tell you about something else I read recently that I find even more worrisome. I apologize that I did not save the article and, therefore, can not give you a link. It was from a main stream media source is all that I recall. The article said that US businesses were producing goods and service at the same level today as they were before the financial collapse of 2008. That is very good news for American businesses, however, it is not good news for those that need a job. Our businesses are producing at 2007 levels with far fewer people. This means there has been a structural change in terms of productivity. I have to wonder that if this is true for America, might it also be true for Europe and Japan and Korea and others?
So, where are the desperately needed new jobs going to come from? This humble observer sees two possibilities.
  1. Unless there is a dramatic pent-up demand for products and services our companies already produce, jobs are going to have to come from new businesses producing new products and services that we don’t yet know that we need. In other words, jobs will come from innovation. But, we know that innovation flourishes best in free market economies. Therefore, we know that is not going to happen if Obama is reelected.
  2. Another way jobs will be created here and in other developed countries is if or when the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries become more consumer oriented. In other words, the world needs more customers;i..e., more wealth.

I believe both of these things are going to happen. The problem is that  these things take time; possibly decades. In my opinion, many people in the developed countries, who are not accustomed to doing without, are in for a very difficult period of time.

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

Classic Conservative Hideout: Government Intervention Leads To Further American Dependency

Share

A Note From Matt: Since the Conservative Hideout started, we had have some great contributors, that for one reason or another, decided to stop blogging altogether.  However, they left some great work behind, and much of it is just as relevant today as when it was first written.  Here is a post written by Matthew from November of 2009.

I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer. – Ben Franklin

There are many types of people who we come across throughout life, most of those to my good fortune have been hard-working, good-natured individuals that are bent on doing right and making an honest living. But on occasion, especially in the recent years, I have met some who are perfectly happy living off of others, or as I use to know it, being freeloaders. I have heard many times over, “Why go get a job when welfare pays more?” Or, “I’m not going to look for a job until my unemployment is almost up because it pays better.” And of course other similar remarks have come about too.

This seems to be an epidemic in our country now. Gone is the “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country,” attitude. It has been replaced with the notion that the government owes you something, if not everything. That you are somehow entitled to things you have never even worked for or tried to achieve. We have become a nation of many who are far too dependent on government for their needs and too selfish to care about the freedoms they give up in place of an easy mediocre life. And so, when big government rears its head as “help” and “hope” they immediately leap onto the train without a thought as to where is it’s true destination.

Once again, as we have seen numerous times in the previous months, Washington is seeking to expand what it seems to be a generous arm to help the people by extending unemployment benefits by up to 20 weeks and also extending the home buyer tax credit. In a 98-0 vote, the Senate passed the $24 billion Worker, Homeownership and Business Assistance Act of 2009 plunging our nation further into unnecessary and unprecedented debt. Will this help the issue with job loss? No, it will only pay those who are unmotivated to stay that way for 20 more weeks at the expense of the taxpayers who are still working. Will it help the economy? No, it will make those who are working hold on to their money that much more knowing that tax increase is inevitable to pay for the multiple bailouts backed by insufficient funds.

All the while it may help few that really are trying desperately to find a job, but it is increasing national debt, enabling freeloaders, and allowing more government control of business. What is needed right now is less spending and less government to get America back on track. This is a bipartisan step in the wrong direction. And with the Obama administration crushing American’s faith in capitalism, ruining the U.S. dollar, implementing unnecessary programs, and pushing to pass more government take over, you can bet that the dependency on the government will only grow at an accelerated pace. It is ironic that those who are in majority at Washington right now are called Progressives because we as a country are clearly regressing. We are moving away from a free society and towards socialism.

Half of US kids will get food stamps, study says.

Pay attention to the response of the people being interviewed in line for stimulus money in this video.

Evidence of Democratic Success! Record Number Enroll in Government Anti-poverty Programs!

Share

One measure of success for Democrats is the number of people that they have helped save from starvation and poverty. It is a worthy measure of whether a policy is successful or not, and Obama, Peters, and all the other Democrats often campaign about how hard they have worked to expand the ‘safety net’ and ‘feed the starving masses.’ In their speeches they talk about how they are setting a goal for themselves of getting as many people who need help into the right government programs. And on their watch, under the Democratic Congress and a Democratic President, they have been successful in destroying an economy and driving record numbers of people to accept the forced charity of the governments dependence programs.

Democrats have been successful in ruining the private economy, of killing jobs with high taxes and regulation, of drying up private charities through taxes and regulations, of bankrupting businesses with regulations and taxes, and of setting up legal and regulatory barriers so that that private individuals are increasingly unable to help others. Barack Obama has done his job- under his watch and guidance, more and more people are forced to swallow their pride and accept the forced charity that is government welfare. Gary Peters has done his job well- money has been taken from businesses and individuals who worked hard for it, some of those businesses and individuals are unable to pay that money and go out of business or into bankruptcy, the money that is collected is cycled through several government agents who are well paid and have great benefits and retirement funds, some of that money is transferred to people and businesses who have friends in government and use those political connections to take some of that money, and then what little of that money is left given those people who need it. Success! And under Obama and the Democrats, that number has gotten bigger and bigger!

More than 50 million Americans are on Medicaid, the federal-state program aimed principally at the poor, a survey of state data by USA TODAY shows. That’s up at least 17% since December 2007, the month that Democrats enlarged their majorities in the House and Senate and captured the Presidency. One out of every six people in the United States have been driven to beg for aid from the government, creating a mass of dependent wards of the state who are stuck on the dole but reliably deliver votes to those people who promise more benefits with less obligations and time limits. The remaining five out of every six people in the US are forced to work increasingly harder to provide for themselves and for the other who are not working.

Even worse is that last year Obama and Democrats in Congress like Gary Peters passed Obamacare, which is scheduled to add a minimum of 16 million new people to Medicaid, starting in 2014. This massive expansion in taxpayer funded welfare is sure to drive increasing numbers into bankruptcy and job losses, driving the numbers on welfare up even higher, all thanks to the success of Democrats policies.

More than 40 million people get food stamps, an increase of nearly 50% since the election of Obama in December of 2007, according to government data through May. The program has grown steadily for three years, ever since the Democrats captured Congress in 2006, as Democrats policies have increasing taken their toll on Americans and driven more to beg government agents for food.

Close to 10 million receive unemployment insurance, nearly four times the number from 2007. Benefits have been extended by Congress eight times beyond the basic 26-week program, enabling the long-term unemployed to get up to 99 weeks of benefits.

One last success for Obama and the Democrats- more than 4.4 million people are on welfare, an 18% increase during the recession.
