Our government is broken. This should be a news flash but sadly enough it is just a declaration of “Old News”. For years we Americans have known that Congress was inefficient at best and that government in general did not represent the will of the people. Why we didn’t or couldn’t prevent this is the subject of a whole rack of books by pundits but we are still left with the decision of “What Now?”
Pelosi and Obama have now proven that the voice of the people is of no concern. It doesn’t matter how many people call, write, or visit their congressperson; what matters is that political pressure from inside the government will ultimately achieve the government’s goals. It is almost as if the government has morphed into a life form of its own. The Obama administration has shown that it will not respond to nor respect the overwhelming majority of Americans. Don’t bother to show up at the White House or on the steps of Congress because those inside are not listening.
Over the past several months we Americans have had to endure an absolute circus in Washington and to what end. Obama promised that his healthcare would win no matter what and to date he has been proven right. Regardless of the wishes of the Majority, Obama understood that with this congress he could impose his will by a series of political maneuvers. In fairness, he is not the first president to do this. He is just the one who is ignoring us now.
So where does that leave us? Should we, can we, dare we put our hopes in what the Senate does with healthcare or look to the 2010 elections. For me I never want to give up hope but sadly I find difficulty in hoping that liberty will be revived in elections that will return incumbents to Washington to ruin what fresh blood we are able to elect. I think all conservatives believe it is time for a good housecleaning in congress but I also think that it is unrealistic to expect it.
Last night as I lay awake thinking I realized that I am old enough to be long dead before the worst of runaway government can get me. As for my children and grandchildren I think they will see the brunt of it. The very thought of that has been the fuel of my political engine. Yet when I speak to my children about the dangers of this Administration, they are no more interested in the process nor informed about it than I was 20 years ago. It is their sense of “everything will be fine” and “I am too busy” and “I don’t know what to do” that makes the current tyrannical government actions possible. Surely Thomas Jefferson was right when he said that we citizens
“are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, that to right them…”
Jefferson went on to explain that government shouldn’t be changed until it reaches “absolute Despotism”. While “despotism” could elicit different definitions, this would be mine:
a form of government in which the ruler is an absolute dictator, not restricted by a constitution, laws or opposition.
As such, I suppose every American will reach their own conclusions as to when and if the government is a problem and how severe. May God bless Americans.

Ken, another great post. I too get the sense that there still isn’t a sense of urgency among many, but that is changing. I think as we keep on spreading the word, and FOX keeps on exposing things, and all of our audiences continue to grow, more and more people will come to the realization that the current administration socialist in nature and needs to be countered at the polls in 2010. The question is, how long will they allow us, as well as FOX, continue to speak freely?
I truly wonder how long we will retain our freedoms to believe and speak out. Efforts to stop us would drive it “undergroud” and would be a very unwise decision. Then again look who’s running things.
I am in agreement that the citizenry will not react until it is far too late. We are a product of our own ignorance, and the suffering we will incur will most assuredly confound those will little understanding of the principles of liberty and sacrifice. Our government expects us to be disengaged because they have created the perfect construct that is the entitlement theory – our acquiescence is nothing more than a Faustian expression. Oppression through legislation is highly normative and Obama will effect his own brand of ideology, his actions cannot be refuted. Matt is correct, how long will our Counterfeit Prince allow dissent before he morphs into something Caeserian? After all, the mob tends to be fickle when its most basest interests become constricted. We shall since within a year.
Great post Ken, I believe this is my first comment. Matt surrounds himself with good people, I shall look forward to more intelligent posts.
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful response. I agree that “entitlement” has entrapped the minds of millions. It is as if they repose next to the giant plant pods awakening as clones to ideological slavery.
I appreciate your site.
Ken
Ken, you have hit the nail on the head. How do we sound the alarm when it is looked at as a conspiracy theory at best?
We keep on. We continue. There IS hope and we must never relent in the pursuit of our liberties.
At Valley Forge with hundreds of men not even possessing boots, George Washington convinced an army near desertion that during the worst blizzard of the season, they MUST cross the Potomac. They MUST drag their cannon NINE MILES up hills and down valleys to launch a surprise attack against the Hessians who were mercenaries employed by the Monarchy. They did just that, though they left a bloody trail. It was the battle that turned the revolution.
If those men could be persuaded to sacrifice that night. If those men could be led to leave a bloody trail because many of them wore rags around their feet. If those men could answer the call, then we gentlemen can answer our call.
I do not wish to be overly dramatic, but it is not the time for talk of defeat. We will remain resilient and steadfast and the opportunity will present itself so that we might claim OUR America once again.
Don, how do you sound the alarm without sounding alarmist? Your comment is right on and timely. Surely someone needs to keep the cadence to keep us at the task of saving of Republic.
Great question Ken. When we figure that out, we will have won half the battle.
This is a great post. One of my fears is the repercussions of the current administrations actions on my children’s futures. I worry somewhat about the support I can give in the years to come in an economy that seems doomed to collapse, but mostly about the happiness and success that should be theirs in the decades to come.
You are right that Obama is not the first president to use dirty political tactics, however, the decisions being made at this time in history seems to be causing the nation’s problems to spiral out of control much faster than in decades past. Not to mention those decisions are far more extreme with the attacks on liberty. I wish that it was not so subtle to so many Americans. Even some in my family see watching the evening news as all the information that they ever need so they do not see the “change” as I do.
Matthew I can truly feel your pain. So many including many in my family think it is depressing to be informed. So, “Ignorance is Bliss”.
Now, Obama is clearly the most radical and disrespectful president we have ever had. Surely, this man has to go.
A great comment about Washington Don.
Ken, I have the same frustration with many of my friends and family. They are so distracted with trivial matters. Every now again though I can see I’m getting through. I think you may have a far greater impact than you realize.
