Obama vs. Vegas Round 2

Obama vs. Vegas Round 2

We all remember when El Presidente opened his mouth about Las Vegas and really put a hurt on their tourism economy last year. Just a little reminder as to what he said in February of 2009:

“You can’t get corporate jets, you can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime.”

But in 2008, then-candidate Barack Obama said at a stop in Las Vegas that he wanted to help “not just the folks who own casinos but the folks who are serving in casinos.” What a difference a  few months make, huh? But then again in 2008 and he was trying to get votes, now he is just trying to… Well I’m not sure what he is trying to do. But I do know that he has something against capitalism and you can’t get much more capitalistic than Vegas.

Just recently, the silver tongued Obama mentioned Las Vegas yet again. Had he learned his lesson? Was he aware of the fact, that no matter what he is the President of the United States and his words carry weight? Nope.

“When times are tough, you tighten your belts,” Obama said, Tuesday at a high school in Nashua, N.H. “You don’t go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage,” Obama said. “You don’t blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you’re trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices.”

In response, Vegas Mayor, Oscar B. Goodman said:

“I guess you’ve all seen the president’s remarks or read about the president’s remarks, well I’ve got some remarks of my own. I was back in Washington, D.C. about two weeks ago, going up and down the halls of the capitol telling people about our economy here, trying to get them to be sympathetic to what we’re trying to accomplish, then I have to read what President Obama said. “He has a real psychological hang up about the entertainment capitol of the world. An apology won’t be acceptable this time, I don’t know where his vendetta comes from but we’re not going to let him make his bones by lambasting Las Vegas, that’s why (the press) is here today.

“He didn’t learn his lesson the first time, but when he hurt our economy by his ill conceived rhetoric, we didn’t think it would happen again, but now that it has I want to assure you, when he comes I’ll do everything I can to give him the boot back to Washington and to visit his failures back there.

“I gotta tell you this, everybody says I shouldn’t say it, but I gotta tell you the way it is. This president is a real slow learner.

You gotta like that guy! Goodman, a former Democrat who is now an Independent has been mayor of Las Vegas since 1999 and is on his third and last term, due to term limits. Here is a video of his comments.

But not only is Mayor Goodman on El Presidente’s case, the Dems and the left are getting on him as well.

Democratic Congresswoman Shelley Berkley said in an issued statement. “Enough is enough! President Obama needs to stop picking on Las Vegas and he needs to let Americans decide for themselves how and where to spend their hard-earned vacation dollars.”

Even Harry “Body Odor” Reid is mad at Obama. In a statement with the headline, “Reid to Obama: ‘Lay off Las Vegas,’” he said:

“The President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn’t be spending their money,” Reid said. “I would much rather tourists and business travelers spend their money in Las Vegas than spend it overseas.”

There is nothing that we Conservatives like better than watching an inexperienced, incompetent, ideological, left wing boob (yes, I said it) repeatedly giving the electorate more and more reasons to vote for ANYONE other than him in ‘12. Obama is an interesting mix of arrogance and naivete. On one hand he is a shrewd politician in the worst sense of the word, i.e. Chicago. But on the other hand he seems to not have a clue as to how to behave in a manner befitting his office. Whether it is bowing to foreign leaders or making remarks that prove how little he is capable of acting Presidential, Obama continues to prove an old, crass adage correct – You can shine a turd, but it’s still just a turd.
