How does one cope with losing 44% of one’s audience in one year? Rant and rave like a cross between a spoiled child and a raging jihadi, or act like Keith Olbermann? Come to think of it, is there a difference?
Well, that seems to be the approach that old Keith is taking, and it seems to be less than successful. As King of the Moonbats at the ultra-unbiased MSNBC (thanks for that pearl of wisdom, Anita Dunn), he leads the brigade of regressive useful idiots that have completely wasted any credibility they had by blindly supporting Obama. Of course, it didn’t help to repeatedly insult, and completely alienate millions of Americans that actually might have watched his show, or the network.
After all of this, some suspect that there are ominous clouds on Keith’s horizon, as well as for the “Good Ship Lollipop” known as MSNBC.
He was the one-time must-see anti-Bush ranter who helped rescue MSNBC (yes, it’s still on at night) from even worse oblivion years ago.
Well, quietly last month while no one was looking, hardly anyone was watching Keith Olbermann anymore.
The guy, who’s even apparently tried to get some Sarah Palin-like eyeglasses, is now forced to leap over-the-top on ex-state senators like Scott Brown and Tuesday’s worst person, Fox News’ Glenn Beck. Beck is the successful talker with the perfect haircut for radio. Like most Americans, he wasn’t watching Keith.
It’s as if he thinks talking LOUDER will keep his low cell battery from dying.
Worst, Olbermann’s network president, Phil Griffin, is publicly praising him, always an ominous sign in television. While referring to his host almost in the past tense. “Keith has been our tentpole,” Griffin says, adding later, “I’m pleased with where we are.”
Unfortunately, Mr. Griffin, Keith is now using that tent pole in a most inappropriate way.
In the most desirable TV demographic of 25-54, which Keith will soon outgrow himself, “Countdown” lost 44% of its audience from the beginning of President Obama‘s term until this year. It could have been worse — say, 45%.
Olbermann averaged 268,000 viewers last month in that sector. That’s just several thousand sets of those eyes more than Campbell Brown over on CNN. According to one count, Keith even finished in that time slow behind Nancy Grace. Nancy Grace!
On the bright side, which everyone knows KO is fond of spotting, his MSNBC audience was only 696,000 viewers 24-54 behind O’Reilly, whose audience has grown 55%, according to Bercovici. Of course, it might be worse this month.
In the immortal words of Edward J. Smith, captain of the Titanic, “What iceberg?”
Well, perhaps Keith is at the helm of a rapidly sinking ship. He did hit an iceberg, and it’s name is reality. Keith, being a lefty, is reality impaired, leading him to make statements such as this.
So, I think this delusional thinking makes him an early favorite for Useful Idiot of the Month. Look for the poll in the sidebar, and vote your conscience.
Do you favor the restoration of our Republic?
Do you dislike the nanny state?
Do you believe that our Constitution should be followed?
Have you joined the RESISTANCE? .

He’s cracking Matt. He’s on course for a complete melt down.
I doubt it’ll be a long trip.
I find that he’s easily avoided when he stays on msnbc. But if he loses this gig, they’ll probably give him more sports coverage and I’ll have more trouble keeping him of my screen. I hope msnbc keeps him where he is.
That’s true. I did have to change the channel when he was on NBC’s Sunday Night Football pre-game. I’ve read some stuff that suggests that he won’t leave the network, but his show will end. So, we might be safe.
So that is where Sergeant “I know NUT-TING!!!” Shulz from Hogan’s Heroes ended up?! He is a writer for Keith Overbite, Countdown to no ratings…
I actually had read that he was a pretty good guy. Could be wrong though.
“Countdown to no ratings…”
That’s good man!
I was just saying that he sounded like the character of Shulz. Tongue was firmly in cheek on that comment, but you are right, I shouldn’t disparage someone who loves strudel.
Olbermann reminds me of Baghdad Bob in his last days.
That he does. Take a look at Don’s response below. Thanks for the comment.
He has become as credible as the old Iraqi information minister.
I actually heard that Baghdad Bob is suing him for “gimmick infringement.”
I think they may be cousins. Here is a side by side comparison to see if there is a family resemblance…
On second thought old Bob looks and sounds more credible.
I think you have a point there.
I don’t approve of Rahm’s language, but I can’t disagree with his accuracy since he was referring to Obermann.
I can find no flaw in that logic.
Olbermann is a clown and no one watches him anyway.
That’s the general idea.
Is he actually trying to prove his show’s relevance by saying he is beating CNN? CNN and MSNBC have been shedding viewers faster than this Obama economy has been shedding jobs. He is saying his show is great because he is not in last place… yeah… that only makes sense to a liberal. Maybe he’s positioning himself for a bailout from Obama?
Saying that he’s beaten CNN is like saying that people narrowly prefer fungus over mold.
My solution is to kill all TV program whatsoever, until football season. What the hell, it will save me some $550 for 6 months. Anything I need to see will be on the innerwebz anyway.
Now Snarky, if we turn off the television, how is FOX News going to program us with our Republican marching orders? Sheesh!
I’m still waiting for good ole keith to name Matt “the worst person in the world.”
Now coming from senor derangement that is olby, that is high praise indeed.
For Olbermann to hate me? Let’s see…he loves socialism… he hates freedom…he mindlessly attacks anyone with a different point of view…I think I would be OK with that!
I laugh at Olbermann’s futility and absence of reason. But like most parasites, he will regress and kiss the very ass he’s ostracized in order to maintain some semblance of viewership. It won’t be for some time, but he will do it.
Do you think he’s smart enough to recognize that?
No, but his agent probably is.
Olbermann is a very insecure man. His hilarious reaction when Ann Coulter correctly pointed out the difference between her Cornell degree and his show this. What I find interesting is Fox News has 13 of the top 15 slots for ratings. Keith might be the hottest thing MSNBC has going, but that isn’t saying much. He should have stuck to sports.
I agree. In fact, I would add that his behavior almost seems pathological. That much personal vitriol might rise to the level of illness.
